Daffodils
I wandered lonely as a cloud That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd, A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
For oft, when on my couch I lie In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

Rest At Last
2019 President's Levée Report Acting President Elke Pitkin and the other members of the Danube Administrative Board welcomed nearly 60 guests to the annual President's New Year's Levee on Tuesday, January 1st, 2019. Live-ly conversation, good food, and predicted bad weather that didn't actually materialize meant that a good time was had by all. Jan Evans
January Movie Day Report Three dozen movie-goers braved the weather for a chance to see "Gifted" on Saturday, January 19th. "Gifted" is a thought-provoking family drama, well worth a second or maybe even third view-ing. It doesn't always show grandparents in a shining light, but, in the end, all the characters get what they really need. "Gifted" is also available at the Bradford Public Library, free with a library card. Our next movie day will be in March. movie TBA. Jan Evans
The History of Valentine’s Day The whole holiday of Valentine's Day is steeped in the concept of love and what greater love is there than Christ's love laying down His life for those He loved. Like so many other holidays, the celebration of this holiday is derived from pagan origin, yet can have great signifi-cance and inspiration for the Christian. Valentine's Day derives its origins from the an-cient Roman feast of Lupercalia. When fierce wolves roamed the woods nearby, the Romans called upon their god, Lupercus to keep the wolves away. On Febru-ary 15th, a festival was held to honor Lupercus. On the day before the festival, one of the cus-toms of the young people was name drawing. The girls would put their names in a jar and each young man would draw a name. The name on the slip each boy chose was to be his sweetheart for the year. Legend has it that the festival was named Val-entine's Day after the priest Valentine who was a priest in Rome when Christianity was a new religion. After Valen-tine defied some of the Emperors decrees, he was eventually arrested, imprisoned, and finally beheaded on Feb-ruary 14th, the eve of the festival of Lupercalia. After his death, Valentine was named a saint. As Rome became more Christian, the priests moved the spring holiday from the 15th of February to the 14th of February – Valen-tine's Day. Now the holiday honored Saint Valentine instead of Lupercus. Having been given the greatest gift of all, it is natural for Christians to want to give to others, so on Valen-tine's Day many people give each other cards or flowers or a variety of other gifts. Monetary gifts are a way of say-ing "I love you." However, acts of kindness that show Christ's love are a very special way of showing love.

Going Unnoticed Curious when I found two negatives in a drawer. I was pleasantly surprised to see they were of a younger, slimmer me taken of my first dates with my husband.
When I showed, his face lit up. ”Wow! It’s my old Plymouth.”
A farmer had some puppies he needed to sell. He painted a
sign advertising the 4 pups. And set about nailing it to a post on the edge of his yard. As he was driving the last nail into the post, he felt a tug on his overalls. He looked down into the eyes of a little boy. "Mister," he said, "I want to buy "one of your puppies." "Well," said the farmer, as he rubbed the sweat off the back of his neck, "These puppies come from fine parents and cost a
good deal of money." The boy dropped his head for a moment. Then reaching deep into his pocket, he pulled out a handful of change and held it up to the farmer. "I've got thirty-nine cents. Is that enough to take a look?" "Sure," said the farmer. And with that he let out a whistle. "Here, Dolly!" he called. Out from the dog-house and down the ramp ran Dolly followed by four little balls of fur. The little boy pressed his face against the chain link fence. His eyes danced with delight. As the dogs made their way to the fence, the little boy noticed something else stirring inside the doghouse. Slowly another little ball appeared this one noticeably smaller. Down the ramp it slid. Then in a some what awkward manner, the little pup began hobbling toward the others, doing its best to catch up.... "I want that one," the little boy said, pointing to the runt. The farmer knelt down at the boy's side and said, "Son, you don't want that puppy. He will never be able to run and play with you like these oth-er dogs would." With that the little boy stepped back from the fence, reached down, and began roll-ing up one leg of his trousers. In doing so he revealed a steel brace running down both sides of his leg attaching itself to a specially made shoe. Looking back up at the farmer, he said, "You see sir, I don't run too well myself, and he will need someone who understands." With tears in his eyes, the farmer reached down and picked up the little pup. Holding it carefully he handed it to the little boy. "How much?" asked the little boy. "No charge," answered the farmer, "There's no charge for love."
