I hope you all enjoyed a fantastic fall and as we move into 2018, I would like to wish you and your family a happy and healthy 2018. We had a great 2017 and we are looking forward to 2018. It was great to see so many families this past fall season at our Halloween Parade, Piano in the Park, Mother- Son Date Night and all of our other programs. Thank you to our staff, which did a great job implementing all of the recreation programs. As we now prepare for the cold weather, there are still plenty of programs and special events that you will be able to take advantage of during the winter and spring seasons. Once again, we have a wide variety of youth and adult programs along with our themed special events. Since our Daddy Daughter Dance is such a popular event, we’ve decided to add an additional date. This year, for our 18 th Annual Daddy Daughter Dance, you will be able to choose from Friday, February 9th or the traditional Saturday, February 10 th date. We will be celebrating our 30 th Annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 17th at Northgate Park. Please make sure you pre-register early so you do not miss out on the fun.

We have started with our park improvements for Elmer Miller Park, Veterans Park, Eberly Park and Hearthstone Park. We except to be completely done by early spring. Please visit these parks to see the progression and let us know what you think. All four parks will be getting new

playground equipment with PlayBound Poured-In- Place surfacing. A walking path will be installed at Hearthstone and Eberly Parks. The PlayBound Poured-in- Place is new to our town and was currently installed at our Northgate Playground. This surfacing material is a 2-layer system consisting of a basemat of 100% post-consumer recycled Styrene Butadiene Rubber and polyurethane and a top surface consisting of recycled post-industrial Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer rubber and polyurethane. We are excited to see what the impact of the much-needed improvements provides to Dyer.

Thank you again for your continued support and remember to take time for recreation. Have a happy and healthy2018.

See you all in the parks!

Participants will train in order to be as fluid, functional and liberated as possible in physical movement and to overcome physical obstacles. Our program will focus on specific elements of obstacle course training. Our younger classes are developed to safely get children moving and exploring the very new world around them, to inherently build confidence in

each step and define their most formative years with a strong base of control. Our classes will consist of two major components: conditioning and drilling which include climbing, jumping, and vaulting while maintaining a fun and challenging atmosphere.

Where Your Child Goes to School Really Does Matter!PARENT AND FAMILY WORKSHOPS ON

MAKING INFORMED EDUCATION CHOICESMATCHING STUDENTS TO SCHOOLS

(Adults 18 & older) When the academic goals and values of a family and school match up, they can create a partnership that truly supports children and provides indispensable knowledge and skills. Children only go through school once and at the right school they can truly shine. Presented by, Dr. Marg De Roo. Living in Indiana, families are offered school choice through the availability of vouchers in some districts, changing neighborhoods, changing towns, or opting for private schools. Choosing a school takes knowledge, skill, and an understanding of how to evaluate the needs of your family and the qualities of schools and districts. Guided by the handbook, “Where Your Child Goes to School Does Matter,” parents and families will participate in a hands-on workshop where they will learn how to match students and schools.• Identify the aspects of education programs that are important to your student’s needs• Interview a school—and the questions you should be asking• Understand the academic jargon every parent should know-what do terms like Advanced, Placement and Student/Teacher ratio really mean?• Evaluate schools using the handbook checklist-and how to prioritize
