LERALA RECEIVES WIDE COMMUNITY SUPPORT
Lerala Diamond Mines Limited, the Botswana subsidiary of Kimberley Diamonds Ltd (KDL), and
the owner of the Lerala Diamond Mine, late last week held a site blessing ceremony with the
local community at Lerala. The blessing ceremony was held at the request of the local community
and was aimed at mobilising the community to provide its support and best wishes for the success
of the mine.
Approximately 400 people from the Lerala community attended the blessing ceremony. The
ceremony was led by Lerala’s Chief Moroka. Also in attendance were his 16 Sub-Chiefs, several
Pastors and Chairpersons from the Village Development Community. Several members of KDL’s
leadership team were also present, including Noel Halgreen, KDL’s Managing Director.

Several Pastors from the Lerala Village and Gaborone blessed the mine in the presence of the
community. Approximately 40 people including the Chief, Pastors and other senior people from
the community later boarded the new Lerala Mine Bus to bless the K3 pit, plant and surrounding
administration offices. Selected delegates walked the areas with olive oil and salt, blessing the
land for prosperity and good fortune.

The blessing ceremony was an important part of KDL’s ongoing relationship with the local
community at Lerala, and the high attendance clearly showed the desire from the community to
see the mine succeed. The local community is an important stakeholder in the Lerala Diamond
Mine, and will clearly benefit from a successful venture, through employment opportunities at the
mine as well as increased local expenditures on goods and services.
KDL Managing Director Noel Halgreen said: “KDL and its subsidiary, Lerala Diamond Mines
Limited, are looking to work with the local Lerala community as we take steps towards the re-
commissioning of the Lerala Diamond Mine. When operational, the mine will create jobs and
provide training, education and new opportunities for the local community at Lerala, whose
commitment will play a key part in the success of the mine.”
