Who?

2. They who are during their prayers humbly submissive.

4. And they who are observant of zakah.

5. And they who guard their private parts.

6. Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they will not be

blamed –

7. But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors –

8. And they who are to their trusts and their promises attentive.

9. And they who carefully maintain their prayers –

10. Those are the inheritors.

11. Who will inherit al-Firdaus. They will abide therein eternally.

1. Allah تعالی هسبحان has openly laid out before us the ways to success that these are the paths which

if you embark on, you will reach success. And what is that? The home of eternity where the

blessings, the joys of which are eternal, they are never-ending.

Every person wants to be successful and in this life, no matter what a person achieves, what happens

after some time is that whatever you have, you begin to get bored of it. You wish to move on to

something else, to something that is greater. After a very good job, a person wants to move on to a

better job. After having a good degree, a person wants to have better certifications. So this is

something that is in this life, in this world, that no matter what we have, we want to move on to a

greater, to a higher level of success. And what happens is that in this life we are constantly chasing

success, from one level to the other, we want to keep going further and further ahead but we reach

the end of our lives and we haven’t reached the end of our desires and our wishes.

But the person who reaches ةجن , then he truly has attained success, why? Because once he enters

ةجن he will not desire anything beyond it. Why? Because ةجن is the highest level of success; it is the

greatest, the greatest level that a human being can get to. There is no position that is beyond that for a

human being. There is no place that is better than ةجن for a human being. It is indeed the highest

achievement and this is for who? For the believers!

And Allah says: ننح حح المؤهفلحد أ ح قح - That no doubt the believers have attained success

Meaning they’re the ones who are going to make it to ةجن , they’re the ones who are going to make it

to such a high level that beyond it there is no greater level of success. This is a place which a person

when he reaches it, then he will not desire anything beyond it, anything after it. Why? Because ةجن

Juzz # 18 2015 فهم القرأ ن

منا تقبل ربنا Page 3

is the home of desires, but to get there, a person has to do some hard work right now. And what is

that hard work?

First of all, المؤمنون a person must have انم ی ٳ . And then:

2. Those who are during their prayers humbly submissive.… نيح ه فه ذهنح اليح م خح شه ه ته

حال صح

Those who have in their prayers; meaning they’re not just performing their prayer, they’re not وعش خ

just saying their prayers, they’re performing them with excellence, with humility, with

submissiveness, with the fear of Allah. They’re actually conversing with their lord. It’s a meaningful

prayer.

1In a ثی د ح we learn, that the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said that:

“Allah has made five prayers obligatory, if anyone performs ablution for them well, offers them at

their right time and observes perfectly their bowing and submissiveness in them, it is the guarantee

of Allah that He will pardon him”.

Who is it that pardon is guaranteed for? The one who performs the five prayers properly; he

performs the ءوض و performs the عوک ر performs the ودج س and he also has وعش خ in these prayers.

Then pardon is guaranteed for him. And if anyone does not do so, there is no guarantee for him on

the part of Allah. If Allah wishes, he can forgive him and if Allah wishes, he can punish him.

So: نح م خح شه ه تهح

ال نيح ه فه صح ذهوعش خ - اليح in prayer is something that will lead a person to paradise.

We see that ۃل ص is the way to success. It is the way to success, so we should pay special attention to

not just performing our prayers but rather perfecting our prayers in order to secure a place in paradise

for ourselves. 2The prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, he warned us that:

“The first thing to be taken away from my ةم ٲ will be وعش خ until you will not find in it a single

person with وعش خ ”

Meaning وعش خ will become so rare, it will become so uncommon, that people will be performing

their prayers but they will not be observing humility in them, they will not be performing them with

all their heart and mind, they will be distracted from the prayer. They will not know what they are

saying. May Allah protect us from this!

Meaning they turn away from every useless, unnecessary, meaningless, pointless, fruitless,

unimportant kind of action, conversation; they avoid it. They avoid it at all cost. And instead, they

use their time for important and useful matters.

You see this life is a place of test and when you are in a test, then what happens? You impose

restrictions on yourself. You don't allow yourself to waste your time in things that are irrelevant and

in things that are unnecessary because you know while you are writing an exam, you have a limited

amount of time. So you're not going to sit there daydreaming, you're not going to take a nap in the

middle of your exam, you're not going to keep taking bathroom breaks, you're not going to take a

lunch break, you're not going to spend your time surfing on the internet, browsing on the Internet,

opening up your Facebook and checking your status and checking how many people are messaging

you. No! You're going to leave all of that, why? Because you know that you are writing an exam and

you have a limited amount of time. So anything that is extra, that is unnecessary, you’re going to

eliminate it.

And a believer remembers that this life is also a test. So anything that is extra, that is wasteful, that is

not conducive to achieving his goal, what does a believer do? He avoids it. So he has focus in his

life. He's not confused, he’s not lost. He knows that he cannot afford to waste his precious time. He

cannot afford to waste his mental bandwidth on things that are irrelevant, things that are going to be

a waste.

So: ضنح ره ه غه الليح

نيح ه عح ذهاليح وح - They turn away from useless, irrelevant, unnecessary,

meaningless actions, meaningless conversations, meaningless indulgences, they avoid all of this.

لنح .4 ةه فح عه اكح نيح ه لهلزيح ذهاليح And it is those who are observant of zakah..… وح

Meaning they engage in matters that purify the soul. They engage in actions that purify their

character, their speech.

5. And it is those who guard their private parts

Meaning, especially they are pure with respect to their sexual behavior, with respect to their sexual

pleasure. Meaning they only fulfill it through ways that Allah has declared lawful. And what are

those ways? That:

م .6 نيح هيح نم فح

ت أ ححلح و ح ح

م أ ح هه اجه زوح أ ح ح عح

ليح يح ا ه له ي ح غح ….Except from their wives or

those [that] their right hands possess, for indeed, they will not be blamed

And over here, when it comes to marriage that's understood but what is mentioned over here that:

يح نم فح ت أ ح

ح لح و ح حيح أ ح له ي ح م غح نيح This is an exceptional situation the details of which, we do - ه

not need to go into right now because this is also irrelevant to our times, since the situation does not

exist anymore.

7. But whoever seeks beyond that.…

Juzz # 18 2015 فهم القرأ ن

منا تقبل ربنا Page 5

Meaning whoever seeks a relationship that is beyond what Allah has made lawful. Meaning,

whoever tries to attain sexual pleasure through ways that Allah has not allowed.

….then those are the transgressors.

No matter what shape or form it takes, whether it takes the form of prostitution or masturbation or

any kind of contract that is illegal in our religion, the believers keep away from that.

8. And they who are to their trusts and their promises attentive

Meaning when they have promised something or when some ان ة has been imposed upon them they أم

pay attention to it. They don't take this matter lightly. And these ان these trusts could be in the , اتأم

form of wealth, it could be in the form of a secret that is shared with them, a word that is, a message

that is entrusted to them, an obligation that is imposed upon them, a duty that is given to them

because trusts take different forms. It can even be a responsibility that is given to a person.

Likewise their promises, meaning whether those promises they have made them with Allah or with

his people then both, the believers who will be successful they’re attentive to their trusts and their

promises.

9. And those who carefully maintain their prayers

At the beginning, وعش خ in prayer was mentioned and over here, guarding the prayer is mentioned.

We see that on both ends ۃل ص is mentioned. Why? Because at the beginning ۃل ص is important,

meaning at the beginning of the journey to success and at the end also ۃل ص is important. ۃل ص is not

something that a person can say yes, I prayed my رج ف and so I can leave my اءش ع . No! A person

cannot say Yes, I perform my prayers properly in Ramadan and now I can neglect them. No! ۃل ص is

a part of life.

Why do you think we have to pray ۃل ص five times a day but we don't have to fast every day? Yes,

in Ramadan we have to but otherwise we don't have to, and we don't have to give charity five times a

day, but we have to pray five times a day. Why? Because the success of the believer is based on his

prayer so: م يح فهظنح ه اته ح لح صح ح نيح ه عح ذهاليح وح

So in our lives also we should be most concerned about our prayer, guarding the prayer, the timings

of the prayer, the proper manner of performing the prayer, the ارکان, the components and paying

attention to the details of the prayer, so those who live like this, Allah says:

10. Those are the inheritors.

What is it that they will inherit?

11. [Those] Who will inherit al-Firdaus….

Juzz # 18 2015 فهم القرأ ن

منا تقبل ربنا Page 6

What is Firdaus? The highest level of paradise

….[And] They will abide therein eternally.

3It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (r.a.) that the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:

“There is no one among you who does not have two abodes…..”

Meaning every person has a seat that is fixed in two places;

“….one place in ةجن and another place in Hell. If he dies and enters Hell than the people of Paradise

will inherit his abode and this is what Allah says:

ثنح اره ح كح ه ال ـئهولح ”Those are the inheritors -أ

وسح ه فههيح خح لهدونح ردح ثنح الفه ه نيح يح ذهاليح

So سو د ر ف , the highest level of paradise that is what should be our goal. And that is what we should

ask Allah for:

Oh Allah! I want ةجن .

ينه ةح ا ه حنحي

لكح ال

حأ ح أ

And the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:

“When you ask Allah for جن ة, ask for سو د ر ف .”

And for this, we have to beg Allah and we also have to see whether we are doing these actions or

not.

12. And certainly did We create man from an extract of clay.

13. Then We placed him as a sperm-drop in a firm lodging.

Meaning the womb of the mother.

14. Then We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a lump [of

flesh], and We made [from] the lump, bones, and We covered the bones with flesh; then We

developed him into another creation….

What was he, at the beginning of his creation, and what he has become at the completion of his

creation? Completely two different things! If you compare the fetus with a fully formed human

being, then again there's such a huge difference. So:

Page 7

…. then We developed him into another creation [completely]. So blessed is Allah, the best of

creators.

So who can create better than Him? Who can create other than Him?

15. Then indeed, after that you are to die.

Allah created you. You live this life here and at the end of this life, you are going to die.

16. Then indeed you, on the Day of Resurrection, will be resurrected.

17. And We have created above you seven layered heavens, and never have We been of [Our]

creation unaware.

Meaning just look at the expanse of the sky above you! It's so huge, it so massive the higher you go,

the lower you feel because the sky is so high. There seems to be no end to it. Allah says:

حلقه غح فهلهيح ه ال

ح كنيح عح وحDespite the massive size of this universe, We have not been of our creation unaware. Meaning never

has there been a moment when Allah has neglected His creation. That the creation is so huge, but

whose creation is it? Allah’s creation and constantly it is under Allah’s observation and we are also

His creation. He cares for us also, He provides for us also, He nurtures us also, remember that

nothing happens except by the permission of Allah.

So this means that if our heart is beating, that is also happening by Allah’s permission. If the sun is

rising and setting, that is also happening with Allah’s permission. We learned for example that when

the sun sets it prostrates to Allah. Now how exactly does it happen if you think about it physically?

Allahu Aalam هللا اعلم but it happens.

We learn that the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said that:

“When the sun sets, it prostrates to Allah and it asks Allah’s permission, if it can continue.”

Meaning if it can continue to rise again and only when Allah allows, does the sun rise.

So what do we learn from this? That nothing happens in this universe, except by the permission of

Allah. So this means that everything that is happening is happening with His knowledge, under His

watch, under His observation.

18. And We have sent down rain from the sky in a measured amount….

Meaning as per need.

.…and We settled it in the earth.…

Meaning when the rain falls down from the sky it doesn't just evaporate, it doesn't disappear, it

settles in the earth. How? That either it settles on the surface of the earth in the form of pools, water

in the form of ponds, lakes, rivers or it gets absorbed by the earth into underground water reservoirs.

Juzz # 18 2015 فهم القرأ ن

منا تقبل ربنا Page 8

….And indeed, We are Able to take it away.… ههه هح ب ذح ح نيح عح ا ه رونح وح قح دهلح

Allah can take this water away. Meaning O people don't take these blessings for granted! Don't

think that you deserve all of this. It is only Allah’s mercy that you are alive. He created you and

He's the one providing for you. So do not forget Him, while you live in this life.

19. And We brought forth for you thereby gardens of palm trees and grapevines in which for

you are abundant fruits and from which you eat.

Meaning, in these gardens which grow as a result of rain, there's so much benefit for you. There's so

much fruit that grows. You can buy, you can sell it, you can make money and you also eat it, you

also use it yourself. There's food for you in that. And it's amazing that all of this is a result of what?

Water that falls down from the sky!

And when the rain is falling…. you know sometimes you see there's so much water. Just the other

day when it was raining in the night time, I don't know if you noticed but there's so much water out

in the streets, you wonder where is it going to go and the next morning when you go out the streets

are dry completely. So the water it has been reserved, it has been absorbed by the earth and where is

it going? The plants; they're benefiting from it. Ultimately, who's benefiting from the plants? We are!

We are! So all of this: نح لحمك أ نشح

ينح ءح .20 ح رج مه طره ة تح رح حح

ش And [We brought forth] a tree, issuing from Mount.… وح

Sinai….

Meaning originally this tree is from there.

….which produces oil and food for those who eat.

What is this tree, the fruit of which when you press you don't get juice but you get oil? And this oil,

it is food also and at the same time you also use it as an ointment. Meaning you apply it on your

body and also you can dip your food in it. What kind of tree is this? The olive tree!

4The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:

“Season your food with olive oil and also anoint yourselves with it…..

Meaning apply it on your body also

…. for it comes from a blessed tree.”

So olive oil is good for eating and it's also used for application, meaning applying on the body.

Why? Because it comes from a blessed tree!

Aisha (r.a.), she said that, Allah’s messenger ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, he died in a state that it never happened that he

could eat to his fill the bread with olive oil twice during the day.

Meaning he never had enough to eat, even oil twice a day. Meaning, the maximum that he ate oil

was how many times a day? How many times? Once! Maximum once!

Our problem is that when we learn about the good qualities of olive oil, then we start overusing olive

oil. And then when we overuse it, then we also suffer because of that So we see that everything is

good in moderation, including olive oil.

More blessings are mentioned over here, so we recognize our Creator.

Indeed, for you in livestock is a lesson. We give you drink from that which is in their bellies,

and for you in them are numerous benefits, and from them you eat.

22. And upon them and on ships you are carried.

You ride on these animals and you also ride on other things that you have made yourselves.

23. And We had certainly sent Nuh to his people, and he said, "O my people, worship Allah;

you have no deity other than Him; then will you not fear him?"

24. But the eminent among those who disbelieved from his people said, "This is not but a

man like yourselves who wishes to take precedence over you; ….

So over here we see that they’re falsely accusing him.

….And if Allah had willed [to send a messenger], He would have sent down angels. We have

not heard of this among our forefathers.

They were right in this because Nuh عليه السلم was indeed the first messenger. He was the first

messenger. However, they were wrong in saying that he's a man who's just trying to take precedence

over you. That he's using religion to gain superiority over you because they're accusing his sincere

intentions.

25. He is not but a man possessed with madness, so wait concerning him for a while."

Has anyone ever called you mad? That maybe you're fasting or you're spending in charity and people

start to look at you as if you're mad. Maybe they don't say it but they look at you as if you're crazy.

Well Nuh عليه السلم, the first messenger, even he was called mad. They said:

….He is not but a man possessed with madness, so wait concerning him for a time.

Meaning perhaps he will get over this, maybe this is just a phase or very soon he will die and soon

this will all be history.

26. Nuh عليه السالم said, "O My Lord: بنهذيح ح كح نه به ي انص به رح .... “O My Lord, support me

My people are not listening! And he said this after 950 years.

27. So We inspired to him, "Construct the ship under Our observation, and Our

inspiration….

Meaning We’re protecting you, We’re watching you and We will teach you how to build a ship.

….and when Our command comes and the oven overflows….

Because that is from where the water was going to gush forth, then once the water starts pouring in,

then:

….put into the ship from each [creature] two mates and your family [also].

And your family; أ هل over here doesn't just include his family but also the people who believed in

him.

….except those for whom the decree [of destruction] has proceeded….

Meaning those from your family who have not believed, they will not embark the ship. And who was

that? His son and his wife! And in fact Nuh عليه السلم still tried to have his son, board the ship But his

son refused.

….And do not address Me concerning those who have wronged; indeed, they are to be

Don't you fear Allah when you disobey Allah?

33. And the eminent among his people who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the

Hereafter while We had given them luxury in the worldly life…..

They opposed the messenger. If you notice over here the messenger, his name is not mentioned, the

people that he was sent to, even they are not mentioned by name. Why? Because it doesn’t really

matter, what matters is the fact that each time Allah sent a messenger, this was typically the reaction

of the people. And what was that? Arrogance and refusal to believe! Especially on the part of who?

On those who were given luxury in the worldly life. Meaning those who were given more blessings.

What happens is that when a person receives blessings in this life and he begins to think that I

deserve this. He begins to take them for granted and he becomes arrogant because of them and he

thinks that I must be good, which is why Allah is blessing me. I must be right, which is why I'm fine

here. And when he compares himself with people who are suffering in worldly terms he sees is that

O those are the people who are more religious. So see they're wrong. They're wrong. And what

happens is that such people, sadly, they're the ones who oppose the truth the most. They're the ones

who oppose the messengers the most. So over here also what happened?

….[They] said, “This is not but a man just like you.…

Meaning they try to look down on the Prophet, they try to dismiss his message by saying, “O he's

….He eats of that from which you eat and drinks of what you drink.

What's so special about him? He doesn't eat any super food.

34. And if you should obey a man like yourselves, indeed, you would then be losers.

Notice how they are telling their people don't listen to the Prophet. Follow us! And they're saying, if

you obey a man like yourselves, then you will be losers. Then what are they calling people to?

They’re calling people to obey them. But they're turning people away from obedience to the Prophet

by saying don't obey a man. Don't obey a human being. Well what makes you different?

35. Does he promise you that when you have died and become dust and bones that you will be

You know if you think about it these words were said centuries ago, thousands of years ago. But

even today, those who deny the Prophets, don't they say the exact same words? Right! That the

prophets; they were just human beings. There was nothing really special about them. If anything in

worldly terms, they were quite far behind. And then they say that this life is just here. It's just this

worldly life. Once we die, we’re finished. There's no more existence after this death and they’re in

rejection of the ۃر آخ .

We generally think that this is a result of scientific advancement or because of the fact that human

beings have now gained so much knowledge and experience, the more intellectual they're becoming

the more they reject god and religion but the fact is that centuries ago people reacted in the same

way. So nothing really has changed in the human psychology. So the messenger, he prayed to

Allah:

I have done my best to convey the message but these people are not believing. You help me!

40. [Allah] said, "After a little, they will surely become regretful.”

Meaning there is a time for everything. And “After a little”, just be patient, just a little while longer

and what will happen? These people who deny you, they will become regretful and so it happened.

41. The shriek seized them in truth, and We made them as [plant] stubble….

Plant stubble! Have you ever seen spread out leaves, broken? Or maybe weeds that have been

uprooted and just left outside, or grass that has been cut off and just thrown on the side. What

happens? It's lifeless. It's green initially then over time, the next day, what do you see? That It’s all

dried and withered, lifeless. It's not attractive at all, garbage! And that is how they became also, that

You see people who reject Allah they don't deserve the blessings of Allah. Allah gives them

42. Then We produced after them other generations.

This was not the end of humanity. This was not the end of human race. More people came, more

Meaning for every nation was a time of existence, which was neither going to be increased nor was it

going to be decreased. So if within that time they believed, good for them. And if in that time, they

chose disbelief, then that was only, their fault.

Us also, we need to think about ourselves. We have been given a limited amount of time to live on

this earth. A limited amount of time! And we were sent here for a purpose and what was that?

Worship Allah, find our Creator, please Him, seek ways to earn His pleasure. So that once we die,

messenger to them to remind them of the purpose of their lives, to correct their behavior. What

happened? The people rejected. And then after some time their time, expired. So they were

finished, they died. And then what happened? Another nation came in their place. Another

generation! Same, history repeated itself. They also got deceived by this life. Allah sent messengers

….and We made them narrations….

What happened ultimately? Now they’re just stories. When you study the history of this world, what

is it that you study? Empires, nations, dynasties, people, people of the past and especially what you

Meaning Maryam and Isa السلم هعلي , they were provided a special place where they lived, where the

blessings of this life were given to them, flowing water. And flowing water is a huge, huge blessing

which we really take for granted. We really take for granted. How many places there are in the

world till today, where people don't have running water? They have to travel in order to get water or

they have to wait for hours in order to get water.

53. But the people divided their religion among them into sects - each faction, in what it has,

Juzz # 18 2015 فهم القرأ ن

منا تقبل ربنا Page 18

Meaning, instead of following the prophets, instead of staying united, what have they done? They

have fallen into division, into sectarianism. And this is something that we are forbidden from. We are

not allowed to become divided.

5The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:

“Verily, Allah likes three things for you and He disapproves three things for you.

He is pleased with you that you worship Him and you associate not anything with Him and that you

hold fast to the rope of Allah and that you do not be scattered, you do not be divided”.

So being divided is something that Allah dislikes for us. He does not allow for us, He does not want

that for us. So still if we become disunited, then who are we disobeying in reality? Division,

remember, this is disobedience to Allah تعالى و سبحانه because Allah likes for Muslims to be united, to

work together. But this is possible only when the goal is greater than ourselves. When the goal is

myself, then what happens? Then personal issues arise. And with those personal issues, then people

cannot work with one another, when they cannot work with one another then how can they be

united?

Allah says:

Because when a person is doing something wrong and still he finds temporary success, he sees that

‘yes, things are working out. Since I have cut off my ties with certain people, I am happier’. It

happens that a person does something wrong and he feels happier.

Allah says, “Do they think that is it because We are hastening for them good things? Do they think

this is reward? Do they think this is good? No, they do not perceive”.

Secondly: ننح ه م ي ه بيه ته رح يحآهأ نيح ه ذه

So who is it that can do good things? The person who actually believes in what Allah has ordered

supposed to do. And when he will do it, he is going forward in good deeds.

Meaning, they do it with sincerity, and when they do it with sincerity, their actions are consistent,

their actions have quality.

ا تنح ح أآتح نيح ي ذهاليح and those who give what they give, while their hearts are fearful. (60) - وح

Why are they afraid when they’re doing something good? Why? Because they know that they are

going to face their Lord one day. And they know that they have not done enough.

Aisha (ra), she asked the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص about this آیة, she said that;

“Ya Rasoolallah, are these the ones that steal and commit زنا and drink alcohol, while fearing

Allah?.…

Juzz # 18 2015 فهم القرأ ن

Meaning, who are disobeying Allah and while they are disobeying Allah, they are afraid?

ا تنح ح أآتح نيح ي ذهاليح This is why ?حرام She said, “Is it the people who are sinning? Who are doing - وح

they are afraid?”

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said, “No, oh daughter of دیق They are the ones who pray and fast and give in .ص

charity, while fearing that it will not be accepted from them.”

[5713:سنن الترمذي]

This is what they are afraid about. Have we ever been afraid after fasting that perhaps our fast is not

going to be accepted? Do we feel like that? Or generally, our attitude is that ‘Yeah six fasts are

done, seventh is on the way and I’m feeling really good about it, I'm doing such good stuff, so

much”.

We're proud about the numbers, the quantities. We're generally very confident that when we are

doing something good it’s definitely going to be accepted. That if we are keeping away from eating

and drinking, ‘Like yeah, I didn’t break my fast at all today, I didn’t eat all day, I didn’t drink all day.

I'm perfectly fine, my fast is accepted.’

But, fasting is not just about refraining from food and drink. It is also about refraining from ول غ from saying that which is unlawful, from backbiting also, from lying. Because if we leave halal

Because what’s the point of leaving .حرام if we leave the lawful food, then we should also leave ,حالل

food that is lawful, but then backbiting somebody and eating their flesh which is unlawful? What

kind of a fast is that? That is destroying our good deeds.

So don't just think about how many good deeds we have done, let's be concerned about their quality

also. That is it something acceptable to Allah? Is it something the really Allah تعالى و سبحانه would

accept? The worry should be that ‘Is it worth accepting? If a deed like this was done for me, what

grade would I assign it? What grade do I assign it?’

So Allah تعالى و سبحانه , who knows my intensions, who knows my efforts, who knows my situation,

when He will judge my deed, what is it that He will assign my deed?’ So never ever be proud of the

good that we do.

اته حيح عنح فه ال كح يسح ره ئهولح .…Those are the ones who hasten in doing good..… أ

They will not delay them. Why? Because they know there is more to do.

….And they outstrip others therein.

Why? Because they are eager for more because when a person is eager for more, then what happens?

He doesn’t stop, he doesn’t become lazy, he never thinks that what he has done is enough. Then what

happens? He keeps going, he keeps going. He realizes that that there’s a need to improve. So he

keeps trying to keep going further and further and like this, he gets ahead of others.

forward. But when we realize, that ‘What if what I have done so far is not accepted by Allah, I better

Meaning you spoke evil about my آیات, about those who delivered my آیات to you. Because the

Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص was mocked at, they made fun of him and they made fun of the Quran. So those who

make fun of the Quran, this is a crime.

68. Then have they not reflected over the Qur'an, or has there come to them that which had

not come to their forefathers?

Meaning the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص is not telling you something that’s strange. This message is logical, it’s

been there from the beginning. God is one, worship Him. Your life is temporary, there is eternal

Hereafter; prepare for that.

69. Or did they not know their Messenger, so they are toward him disacknowledging?

Meaning, is he a stranger to them? So he’s not credible in their eyes and this is why they cannot trust

him? No, he’s not a stranger, they know him so well.

70. Or do they say, "In him is madness?" Rather, he brought them the truth, but most of

them, to the truth, are averse.

71. But if the Truth had followed their inclinations, the heavens and the earth and whoever is

in them would have been ruined....

This is so true, that if everything was according to our desires, then what would happen? This world

would be a total chaos, total mess. Like for example if rain was to fall according to my wishes, then

I would like that every day there should be a little bit of rain. But then it’s not just me living on this

earth, there are other people also. And if rain should fall according to the wishes of everybody who is

on the earth, then somebody else would wish that, ‘No, there should be no rain,’ another person

would wish that ‘No, no, there should be a lot of rain.’

What happens when you have to order food at a restaurant? You say, ‘I want fries’ and your friend

says, ‘No, I don’t want fries, I want rice’ and then eventually you decide ‘Ok, you order your own

meal, I will order my own meal’, and then you don’t finish it and half of it goes in the garbage. So

this is just an example to show that if things were to be according to our desires, then you know

what, this life would be a total mess. It would be a total mess. So with regards to the matters of the

Deen and with regard to the matters of the دنيا, Allah لىتعا و سبحانه has taken this control with

Himself, that it will be according to His wishes.

He will decide when to send the rain, He will decide when someone is to be born, when someone is

to die. He will decide how frequently we have to pray, how frequently we have to fast, how we have

Likewise, our eyes, our ears. These senses, Allah has given to us as an ان ة ;as tools to benefit from ,أم

This is just like if somebody has given us food and we are hungry, we’re not fasting and we have the

You know, like for example, hot food, when you don’t have it hot, it’s not the same anymore.

Cold food; if somebody brings you ice cream, somebody brings you an ice cap, it’s sitting at your

Meaning the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص was still in Makkah right now and the people were refusing to believe. So

he was afraid that if they are following the way of the people of Nuh, the people of Lut, what’s going

to happen, the punishment is unavoidable, it is going to happen. So the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص was

apprehensive about that.

So say, "My Lord, if You should show me the punishment which they are promised; meaning if it

happens in my life then:

94. My Lord, then do not place me among the wrongdoing people."

Meaning take me away from them, don’t make me one of them.

95. And indeed, We are able to show you what We have promised them.

Meaning certainly it can come in your life don't think it is far.

[their] evil. We are most knowing of what they describe.

Meaning when they do evil to you, then don’t do evil in return. How should you repel it, how should

you counter it? With good! With goodness!

Because whenever something annoying happens in front of us, generally what happens? We get

angry, we get annoyed and then we show our anger. Why? To satisfy our ego!

Like for example, taking revenge from somebody. Like for example, you’re driving and somebody

cuts you off, and then you’re like let me show you. So what happens? You cut them off. This is what

يئ ة يئ ة for الس Why did you do that? Your ego came in, you’re trying to satisfy your ego, “How .الس

Allah tells us: ن حسحح أ ح ته هه

the opposite side of the spectrum. Meaning it should be something good that you do in return. That

“Ok, they want to cut you off, ok go. How far will you go?” And then what happens? What happens?

You see them right next to you at a traffic light, right?

So: فنح ح حصه علحم بهن أ ح ةح نح ئح ييه

This is a principle that we should adopt in our lives. It's very difficult, it's very difficult but the fact is

that there is no other way. Because if we begin to respond with like for like then there's no outcome.

It's only going to further aggravate the situation.

When you fight fire with fire, it’s going to make more fire. When you have fire, you need to fight it

with what? With water, with a fire extinguisher. But what do we do? Somebody throws fire at us, we

say, ‘I can throw better fire at you.’ And then there’s a catastrophe.

So avoid that and take comfort in the fact that: فنح ح حصه علحم بهن أ ح Allah knows what people are - نح

6The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, whenever he got up to pray at night, when he got up to pray at night, he would

suggestions, from his puffing up, and from his spitting”,

Meaning from Shaytan really attacking me again and again.

And then he would recite the Quran, meaning he would recite Suratul Fatihah.

You know what’s amazing? When you stand up to pray at night, what happens? Do you get sleepy?

Oh yeah. These night, of course you do. Shaytan doesn’t want you to worship Allah, he doesn’t

want you to do good. So this action of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, what does it show that even in prayer, seek

refuge with Allah against the Shaytan.

Then what do you think when you’re sitting behind the wheel, do need to seek refuge with Allah

against the Shaytan? Yes. What about when we are dealing with our children, when there’s a heated

debate going on at home? Huh? So we need Allah’s protection against the Shaytan, and if a person

does not take Allah’s protection, and he follows Shaytan, then what happens, he makes one mistake

after another after another.

The fact is that in anger we do things that we regret later. And then we say, “If I had one more

Meaning your father, yes, he is a father to you right now, he’s caring for you, he’s responsible for

insecure, unsafe. And when you try to talk to somebody, they ignore you, there’s no response

So those watching also take a lesson. The reality is that زنا, unlawful sexual intercourse, this is an

evil action. Because firstly it is the height of immodesty, it is the height of moral depravity and it is a

source of much evil for the individuals who are involved in it and the communities that they live in,

and Allah has declared زنا unlawful.

12

It is something that's not permissible which is why we learn that زنا does not co-exist with ایمان.

Meaning when a person commits زنا, then what happens? The نور of ایمان leaves his heart: ع حزنحنه ر ه يح ن فه ناله

حن الزيه

The نور of ایمان is taken away from him when he's committing the act of the زنا.

This is why زنا is unlawful and so any door that leads to زنا also, it is closed.

Allah says: نح با الزيه لح تحقرح - don't even go near زنا. (Suratul Isra 32)

Because زنا is something, illegal sexual intercourse is something that, if allowed, it will not happen

once. It will happen many times. And it will not just affect the people who are doing it, it will affect

other people also. It will disturb the balance that Allah تعالى و سبحانه has maintained in this world. It

will lead to many vices, many evils. And the fact is that the زنا, it spreads, it spreads very quickly.

13

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said that:

From among the signs of the hour are the following:

1. Religious knowledge will be taken away. Knowledge will disappear. People will not have knowledge of the Deen. Gradually it will be

forgotten, lost.

2. Secondly, ignorance will prevail. Generally people will be ignorant; not ignorant of how to read and write but ignorant of Allah

and ignorant of the deen of the Qur’an.

3. Thirdly, drinking of alcoholic drinks will become common. Alcohol will become common

4. And fourth there will be prevalence of open illegal sexual intercourse. Meaning this will become so common people will not even feel shy about it and it will

become the norm. It will spread.

Remember that زنا is something that is unlawful for all but is specially if a person does it in old age it

is worse.

14

In a حدیثwe learn that:

Juzz # 18 2015 فهم القرأ ن

منا تقبل ربنا Page 35

“Allah will not even look on the Day of Judgment at an old man and an old woman who commit زنا”.

Meaning a person who’s given their age still they don't have any shyness any modesty, any ي اء ح whatsoever that they're committing this evil action, Allah will not even look at them on the Day of

Judgment. And for a person who is married and commits this sin, for him is a greater punishment.

Then we also learn that زنا is something that will cause a person great humiliation on the Day of

Judgment. Firstly, because Allah will not even look at this person especially if he is old, right? 15

And then we learn in a حدیثthat the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said that:

“Two men came to me.…

OK he was shown a vision while he was sleeping

….and held my arm and took me to a very difficult mountain….

Or this happened when the prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص was at Mi’raj. In either case this is Haqq

….over there were some people whose bodies had terribly swollen.…

They were people whose bodies had become swollen

….and from them was emanating a terrible stench like that of toilet areas….

Now yes, at the time of the prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص toilets did not exist meaning people did not have built

bathrooms but they had parts of their houses dedicated to be like a place where they could use the

bathroom. And also there were certain areas like dumps. Now if you ever passed by a dump or a

sewer, like an open sewer is there a smell? It's horrible!

….The prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said I asked, “Who are these?” And it was said these are men and women who

would commit زنا.

So this is something that has terrible consequences for a person in this life and the next. This is why

as you can see in this آیة, zero tolerance for زنا; zero tolerance! No one is allowed to commit زنا. No

one at all and the punishment is so severe.

3. The fornicator does not marry except a [female] fornicator or polytheist....

Meaning a man who commit زنا he should only marry a woman who was like him or he should

marry a woman who's not even a Muslim. What this means is that he should not be allowed to marry

a chaste, pure, believing woman who guards her modesty, who preserves her chastity. No, he should

not be paired with her.

....and none marries her except a fornicator or a polytheist....

Likewise, on the other side also that if a woman is like this, she should not be married to a man who

is chaste.

....and that has been made unlawful to the believers.

Meaning when it is clear that someone is a اني then ,زنا it is known that this person has committed ,ز

such marriages should not take place. Why should a pure chaste person be married to a fornicator?

This is injustice! But this means is that a person who has committed زنا, it's quite possible, very

likely that he will do it again. So he should not be married to a woman who is chaste because why

should she be abused in that relationship? Why should she suffer in that relationship?

And if you notice over here, زنا and shirk are mentioned together. That he should either marry a

اني ة ,both of them are major sins ,زنا why? Because both shirk and ,مشرك ة or he should marry a ز

both of them are serious sins. And if you think about it shirk, associating partners with Allah, the

reality of it is to give Allah’s exclusive right to someone else. What Allah only deserves, give that to

somebody else. And when a person is married then what happens? If he's committing زنا then he is

giving the exclusive right of the wife to someone else. This is injustice.

4. And those who accuse chaste women and then do not produce four witnesses....

Meaning a person who accuses a woman of زنا that, “O this woman, this girl, this lady, she has

committed زنا and they don't bring four witnesses then who's the criminal? Who's the criminal? The

one who's accusing!

....lash them with eighty lashes and do not accept from them testimony ever after..that... And

those are the defiantly disobedient,

5. Except for those who repent thereafter and reform, for indeed, Allah is Forgiving and

Merciful.

What we learn from this is that our religion clearly condemns this kind of speech. We cannot smear

the honor of other people. We are taught to respect other people's honor, not to attack other people's

honor. So raising and spreading such rumors and scandals, talking about these matters this is ل هو. It is waste and it should be avoided. Never ever indulge in such conversations. Because if a person

indulges in a conversation like that that “Oh so and so friend of mine she's committed ازن .” Well you

know what if you don't produce four proofs then the punishment is on your back. And even if the

punishment is not implemented today which is the case that we don't live in a place where the

punishment is implemented, its not applicable here. However, it shows our position near Allah that if

Allah who is most Merciful, most Merciful, if He has a decreed that a person who falsely accuses a

woman of زنا, he should be beaten with eighty lashes what does it show? That this is not forgivable,

we cannot play with other people's honor. So be very careful.

6. And those who accuse their wives [of adultery] and have no witnesses except themselves -

then the witness of one of them [shall be] four testimonies [swearing] by Allah that indeed, he is

of the truthful.

Juzz # 18 2015 فهم القرأ ن

منا تقبل ربنا Page 37

Meaning if a person sees his wife committing زنا with his eyes, he sees it. And then he says, “My

wife has committed زنا,” and then if he doesn't produce four witnesses then he's in trouble. But at

the same time how can you remain quiet? Because it's his wife, he's married to her. How can you

remain quiet? So over here the process of ان is given which is an exceptional situation where the لع

husband accuses the wife of زنا. So in that, what is he going to do? The man is going to swear four

times that indeed he is of the truthful.

ة .7 سح ح هال And the fifth [oath will be] that the curse of Allah be upon him if he should be… وح

among the liars.

So now the woman is guilty. The guilt is established. But what if he's making this up? Doesn't she

have the right to defend herself to maintain her innocence? Yes. How can she do that?

8. But it will prevent punishment from her if she gives four testimonies [swearing] by Allah

that indeed, he is of the liars.

9. And the fifth [oath will be] that the wrath of Allah be upon her if he was of the truthful.

10. And if not for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy... and because Allah is

Accepting of repentance and Wise.

Meaning this is purely Allah’s mercy this is why he's given you these commands. If He had not

given you these commands, your life would become very difficult. So with انلع , the process of ان لع that is mentioned over here, we see that the man accuses the wife by swearing oaths and if she

declares her innocence then she has to swear oaths in return in her defense. And after this, both are

freed from one another, meaning they're separated for life. The marriage comes to an end. Why?

Because this kind of marriage cannot continue. In marriage what is the main thing? It's trust. And if

the husband and wife cannot trust one another then, that marriage cannot continue very long.

11. Indeed, those who came with falsehood are a group among you....

They are a group among you, they are the ones who made of this lie.

thereof - for him is a great punishment.

These verses are about the incident of كإف . The following آیات, these verses are about the incident of

كإف كإف . means a lie. So the incident of the great lie what was a great lie?

This happened in the time of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص when once on a journey which was the Ghazwa Banu

Mustalik,غزوة ن المصطلق the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص was going in a particular expedition and whenever you

would go on an expedition he would take along with him one of his wives. So Aisha (r.a.), this time

Juzz # 18 2015 فهم القرأ ن

منا تقبل ربنا Page 38

it was her turn so she went along with the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص. And when she went on this journey,

imagine this is a battle but she's going along as well.

So when she went she took with herself a necklace that she was wearing. Now what happened on the

return from this journey back to Medina back home, the prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, he had the Muslims rest for

some time and over there, Aisha (r.a.) she got off her camel and she went to use the bathroom. And

when she returned to sit back on her camel she realized that her necklace was missing so she went

back in order to look for it and she went for a while, she couldn't find it. But eventually when she

returned she saw that everybody had left. Because when they came and they took her camel they

probably didn't ask, they didn't have a conversation with her nothing, they just took the camel and

they didn't realize that Aisha (r.a.) was not there.

So Aisha (r.a.) she stayed over there, she just lied down over there and she slept thinking that when

they will realize I'm missing they will come back to look for me and eventually they will reach here.

So Aisha (r.a.) she stayed over there until eventually one companion of the prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, he came by

because it was his duty to stay behind the caravan, to stay behind the army always to make sure that

nothing had been forgotten. So as he came and he saw Aisha (r.a.) sleeping. He said: إن ا إل يه و إن ا لل

اجعون she has been left behind. So what ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص loudly. Because here is the wife of the prophet ر

happened? Aisha (r.a.) she sat on his camel. And he brought her into Medina.

Now as they came in يبعبد هللا نب ا , who was very angry with the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص because of certain

things that happened in that journey and this man was a من افق, he was a hypocrite. What he did, he

said something evil has happened over here. Meaning he accused Aisha (r.a.) to have committed زنا

with that companion. And what happened? He just said that however, everybody started thinking

about it. Some people started talking about it and rumors began to spread.

Aisha (r.a.) when she reached Medina she fell ill and she was ill for an entire month and during the

whole time she had no idea what the people were talking about. But she noticed that the prophet

was not the way he used to be always, there was something different over here. There was ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص

something strange going on but the prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص never confronted her even once. He would come

and see how she was doing, spend some time with her and go. But she knew that something was not

right. Eventually Aisha (r.a.) found out what was happening. And she cried so much she said that her

tears did not stop, all night long she wept and wept. And then she asked the prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص if she could

go to her parents' house. So she went to her parents' house and until this point she had not even

confronted the prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص by the way because you want to confirm the news with her parents.

So she went to her parents and her mother said that:

O Ayisha every wife who is loved by her husband, people are jealous of her so don't worry. This is

just people's jealousy for you get over it.

But Aisha (r.a.) she cried a lot and then eventually what happened? The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص came to see

her. And he said to her that:

“ If you are innocent than Allah will reveal your innocence. And if something wrong has happened,

then just seek forgiveness from Allah.”

Look at the heart of that husband, of that great man. Imagine Rasoolallah ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص was giving this

option to his wife. He was saying, “If you're innocent Allah knows He will prove you to be innocent

Juzz # 18 2015 فهم القرأ ن

منا تقبل ربنا Page 39

and you don't need to worry about it. You don't need to cry. And if you have done something wrong

then you know what, ask Allah for forgiveness, just repent.” Simple! Look at the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص over

here. Aisha (r.a.) she was very young and she said that:

“You all have heard this so much that I have done something wrong, that if I were to tell you I am

guilty you would believe me. And if I were to tell you that I'm innocent you will never believe me.

So I will only say what the father Yusuf (a.s.) said: فن ح تحصه ح ح ن عح المستح ح هللاي يل وح ه ب جح فحصح - I will

observe beautiful patience and Allah’s help is sought against what you say about me.”

And Aisha (r.a.) said that then her tears just dried up. An Ansari woman she came in to see Aisha

(r.a.), and she cried and Aisha (r.a.) cried, both of them cried together. And then eventually we see

that while Aisha (r.a.) was sitting, at this time the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص was there, Abu Bakr (r.a.) was there

and Aisha (r.a.)’s mother is there, Allah تعالى و سبحانه revealed these آیات establishing the innocence

of our Aisha (r.a.).

Allah says:

Indeed, those who came with falsehood....

Allah calls it falsehood, it's a lie they’re:

.…a group among you. Do not think it bad for you….

Just imagine, so much pain the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص himself went through. Because Aisha (r.a.) didn’t know

for an entire month but the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص knew, for him to have that صبر that she is unwell, I should

not disturb her, I should not talk to her about this, it will be difficult for her to have this conversation

with me. He waited for so long.

Allah says: do not think it bad for you….

The fact is that no matter what happens in our life, no matter how painful it is, remember, it is good

for you. Allah will bring good from it.

….For every person among them is the [punishment] he has earned from the sin, and he who

took upon himself the greater portion thereof....

Meaning the one who invented this who started all of this which is يبعبد هللا نب ا , the hypocrite

…. for him is a great punishment….

What do we learn from this incident? That when something happens like this, when you're falsely

accused of something then just stay calm. If you're innocent, just stand your ground and be firm, and

don't get upset, yes it's a very difficult test. But if you're innocent than have trust, have faith in

Allah. He will defend you because we learnt earlier in Suratul Hajj that: “Indeed Allah defends those

who believe”

Then Allah reprimands the Muslim community that:

Juzz # 18 2015 فهم القرأ ن

منا تقبل ربنا Page 40

12. Why, when you heard it, did not the believing men and believing women think good of

one another....

This is a lesson to learn over here that when someone is accused then put yourself in their position.

If it was me, would I do that? No, I wouldn't do that. So don't even blame someone of something

that you wouldn't do.

….[Why did you not] say, "This is an obvious falsehood"?

13. Why did they [who slandered] not produce for it four witnesses? And when they do not

produce the witnesses, then it is they, in the sight of Allah, who are the liars.

14. And if it had not been for the favour of Allah upon you and His mercy in this world and

the Hereafter, you would have been touched for that [lie] in which you were involved by a great

punishment

15. When you received it with your tongues....

You received it with your tongues; meaning without even thinking about it what you heard you

passed it on.

....and you said with your mouths that of which you had no knowledge....

Because the fact is that was the third person over there with Aisha (r.a.) and that companion? There

was no third person! So you had no knowledge about if you had no witnesses. So:

When you received it with your tongues and said with your mouths that of which you had no

knowledge and you thought it was insignificant while it was, in the sight of Allah, tremendous.

Accusing an innocent righteous woman is a crime. And this shows to us that careless use of the

tongue is very very dangerous. We have to be very careful about what we say with our mouths.

16

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said that:

“A man utters a word pleasing to Allah without considering it of any significance for which Allah

exalts his ranks in جن ة. And another person speaks a word displeasing to Allah without considering it

of any importance and for this reason he will sink down into Hell.”

Why? Because of what he said and he didn’t even think about what he said. Most disliked people are

who? Those with uncontrolled sharp tongues!

17The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:

“Indeed the most beloved among you to me and the nearest to sit with me on the Day of Judgment is

the best of you in character. And indeed the most disliked among you to me and the one sitting

furthest for me on the Day of Judgment are those who are talkative, those who are sharp in tongue,

dominant over others because of their talk, abusive in their speech and the arrogant.”

Meaning those who are arrogant in their speech; meaning those who speak without controlling their

tongue.

So: مك ته نح لسه حهأ ه

نح ح ذ تحلحقي ?We need to watch our tongue. What is it that we are saying - ا ه

16. And why, when you heard it, did you not say, "It is not for us to speak of this. Exalted are

You, [O Allah]; this is a great slander"?

Meaning why did you not express amazement when you heard this? Why did you not say ه ح نح هللاي بس

this is not true? Why were you not shocked by even hearing something like this? Because hearing

something like this that the wife of the Prophet could have done something like that, I mean this is

something serious!

Because you might defend this immorality and say that, “O this is part of life.” But Allah knows

how dangerous it is once it spreads and once people lose their ي اء .they lose their modesty ,ح

Now the question is what does it mean by spreading immorality, spreading indecency?

This is done in several ways one is through words, through speech. Using words that are

inappropriate, that are شح ف , that one should not be uttering or things that a person should not really

be talking about because they contradict modesty.

Likewise, this includes wearing clothing that is immodest. Because when a person is wearing

immodest clothing then, OK, they are doing something that is immodest but they're also spreading

immodesty, right? They’re spreading indecency.

Likewise committing actions which are indecent and then talking about indecent things like we saw

in the previous verses about slanders, slandering other people, talking about love stories or love

affairs, these are things that spread immorality and Allah تعالى و سبحانه does not like people who

spread indecencies.

18

We learn that once a group of companions they were sitting and they were eating and there were

some other people there also. This is after the death of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص and there was a woman over

there who was serving them.

So one of the men, he called her اني ةز . He said: “Hey you اني ة ”!ز

That just because she's of a lower social status, he just called her a اني ةز and Ibn Abbas (r.a.) was

there, he said:

“Easy! if you are saved from the Hadd” Meaning if nobody punishes you today, in this world you

will be given the punishment in the next world.

And the man said that:

“What if it's right?” What if it's true, meaning what if she has committed زنا.

Ibn Abbas (r.a.) said: شح حي فح الفحشح التيح ح لح يهبي ح نيح هللاي Allah does not like the indecent person who - ا ه

spreads indecency.”

Meaning even if you know that she has committed زنا, you should not be talking about it unless you

are in a court with four witnesses. Then Ok you have a right to talk about it, otherwise, you don't

need to talk about it because Allah does not like people who indulge in indecent talk.

here, and what was that? That he was one of the people who spread the slander against Aisha (r.a.),

meaning he heard it from يبعبد هللا نب ا , he didn’t start it, he heard it but then he passed it on. And then

he spoke about it and he accused Aisha (r.a.) and that companion of committing زنا. And this

companion سط ح (r.a.) who made this mistake over here, he was a Muhaajir, he had emigrated from

Makkah to Medina, imagine. You see good people can also make big mistakes, they are human

beings after all. And he was a relative of Abu Bakr (r.a.) also, he was related to Aisha (r.a.), all right?

And on top of that Abu Bakr (r.a.) used to financially aid سط ح and when سط ح participated in the

slander, Abu Bakr (r.a.) was so hurt, he said: “From now onwards I am not giving سط ح anything!”

Would we do something like that? Of course we would! “All my life I have helped you and this is

what you do in return?” Don’t we say these words over and over?

So imagine Abu Bakr (r.a.) he was a human being also, so what happened? He said: “I am not going

to continue helping سط ح.”

But Allah تعالى و سبحانه interceded for سط ح over here. That once توبة is done, حد was carried out,

then forgive and let go. And Abu Bakr (r.a.) agreed. So what happened? He started giving سط ح again and in fact, he gave him more than what he used to give before because he was giving for

who’s sake? For the sake of Allah تعالى و سبحانه .

23. Indeed, those who [falsely] accuse chaste, unaware and believing women are cursed in this

world and the Hereafter; and they will have a great punishment

So none should think from the above آیة that it is Ok to accuse women and attack the honour of other

people. No, it is not Ok, wrong is wrong but when someone has done wrong and they repent from it

and they have made amends, then you should also forgive them. But this آیة, again it warns us that

we should never ever indulge in such conversations, accusing people of زنا without any proof.

21

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:

“If somebody slanders his slave and the slave is free from what he says....

And this is not the slander of زنا, it could be any false accusations, you stole, “You did this without

my permission.” And generally this happens that servants are blamed, children are blamed. “You

broke this, you did this, you did that”

The prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:

“If the slave is free from what he says...meaning he is innocent... then he will be flogged on the Day

of Resurrection....

Who will be flogged? The master, the one who accused will be flogged on the Day of Resurrection.

....unless the slave is really as he described him.”

So we should really seek forgiveness from our children also when we falsely accuse them and we

hurt their feelings and later on we find out that it wasn’t them, they were innocent. If something like

this has happened, we need to seek forgiveness. This is for any kind of accusation, not just زنا.

24. On a Day when their tongues, their hands and their feet will bear witness against them as

Meaning they are worthy of it.

....and good men are [an object] of good words....

Meaning words, basically what we learn is that words of a person, what a person says, they reflect

the personality of the one who has said them. Words really show what is inside. A person is

recognised by his speech. So here we are being warned that if you consider yourself to be a good

person then don’t talk about indecent stuff, don’t slander, don’t falsely accuse other people.

....Those [good people] are declared innocent of what the slanderers say....

No matter how much they are accused, Allah تعالى و سبحانه declares them innocent.

Why? For their صبر over the ذ ىأ , over the hurt that they have faced.

27. O you who have believed, do not enter houses other than your own houses until you

ascertain welcome and greet their inhabitants. That is best for you; perhaps you will be

reminded.

And don’t forget this etiquette because what happens? We know about it but still, still, what do we

do when we go to somebody’s house? We ring the doorbell, if there is no answer, we start looking in

through the windows, we start calling out to people. What does Allah say? Do not enter unless you

have been given permission that is best for you.

رونح كيح مك تحذح

What a beautiful حکم, what a beautiful instruction! But generally what happens when we go to

somebody’s house? Either we don’t tell them before we come, we show up at the door and we say,

“Surprise!” All right? And then we keep ringing the doorbell or we check at least if the door is

locked or not. If it is not locked, “Ok let me just go in.” Sometimes this also happens. How can you

even touch the doorknob if somebody did not open the door from inside? We can’t do that! We

cannot go into other people’s houses without permission.

And remember that house over here doesn’t just apply to a house, it also applies to somebody’s

private space. So for example a bedroom, if somebody has closed the door, don’t just walk in,

especially when it comes to a married couple, don’t just walk in, take permission and if you are told

go back, then go back! Don’t get offended over there. Don’t start yelling at them from behind the

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:

“Three kinds of eyes will not see the fire of the Day of Judgement; the eye that weeps from the fear of

Allah, the eye that guards in the way of Allah...

Meaning something حرام came up and the person what did he do immediately? Lowered his gaze.

Please make sure you share this حدیث with the men that you know. Whether they are your husbands,

You see sins have consequences. It’s quite possible we don’t think much about this, we don’t realise

the seriousness of the matter, but what happens? A person feels that they are not finding any

motivation to pray to Allah, to pray قي م اليل, to recite the Quran. I mean it is the month of Ramadan,

yet the heart is not in تراویح, imagine the person is in the Masjid and they are not interested, why?

Why is it that they are so far removed from Allah, this huge distance, gap between them and Allah?

This is a result of our sins. And it is these little, little things that gather together and they are enough

to destroy a person. And the women tell them that they should also:

....guard their private parts....

They should also protect themselves from زنا and they should not expose their bodies. They should

not wear such clothes which despite wearing reveal them.

....and they should not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears

thereof.... ح ليح نيح ا ه تح نح نيح زه لح بده نح وح رح ه هح ظح

Meaning a woman’s beauty which is her body, her clothes, her hair, she should not expose it to

people who are just going to enjoy it and then move on. No, your body is for you, it is for you.

Allah تعالى و سبحانه has given it as an ان ة It is not for other people’s pleasure, it is not for their .أم

enjoyment. So the women should not display their adornment except for that adornment that appears

naturally, necessarily, meaning there is no way of hiding it.

Like for example for a woman, is she even meant to cover her hands, her feet and every part of her

body so that her skin is not even exposed even an inch? She can’t do that, right? Likewise, her

height, I mean the height is also beautiful, isn’t it? The height is something that you can’t cover.

Likewise a woman is wearing a dress that is long enough, its hot inside, she is not wearing her socks

but when she stands her dress is long enough that it covers her feet and as she walks, her feet do get a

little bit exposed, there is nothing wrong in that. Because - نح رح ه هح ح ظحليح ا ه

Likewise, a woman is wearing beautiful clothing and she has something on top to cover it but then as

she walks the wind blows a little bit, so there is no harm because she tried her best to cover herself.

So - نح رح ه هح ح ظحليح ا ه

What we learn over here is that we should not deliberately ever flaunt, display, expose our

adornment, our beauty, whether it is the beauty of the body or it is the beauty of the hair or the

clothes, or the makeup, or the jewellery, whatever it may be. We should not deliberately ever reveal

it. If it happens by accident that’s a different situation but deliberately we should not show it, why?

Because this is something very serious.

24

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:

“The worst of your women are اتج ر ب ت م ....”

اتج ر ب ت م are those who are decked out, who are displaying adornment. Like when they go out they

dress up in order to attract attention and the حدیثcontinues:

“.... تل ي خ ت الم .…those who walk with pretence also….”

Why do they walk in that manner? To attract even more attention.

“…. they are the اتق اف ن م none will enter جن ة from among them except for the red-beaked and the

footed crow.”

Meaning very few, how often do you see a crow like that? Hardly, so just like that, among these

women, hardly any will go to جن ة. May Allah protect us. And also for the women, additional

command:

ني ه جيبه ح نيح عح هه مره نبح به ليحضه and they should wrap [a portion of] their head covers over..... وح

their chests....

Meaning the cloth that they use to cover their heads with, they should take a part of that and what

should they do? They should cover their chest with it, their bosom with it, they should cover it, they

should conceal it. Meaning the scarf, the headscarf should not just be on the head, a part of it should

also be covering the breast. Not to further accentuate but to conceal. Now what happens is many

times when we are wearing our hijaabs , we wear them and we keep wrapping them up, up and when

هن إال مثل الغ شمر 24 ل اجلمنةم من [3443:السلسلة الصحيحة]رماب األمعصمم نسمائكم المتمب مرجمات المتمخميالمت ومهن المنمافقمات الم يم

we wrap them, what happens is that they barely reach up to the chest and then the chest is exposed. I

mean this kind of contradicts the ابج ح , right? Because the ابج ح is for the purpose of concealing

us, right? And if a woman is wearing a ابج ح in such a way that there is a big bright thing on the

head and then the chest is exposed, it means she is not really covering herself, is she? She is not!

Likewise, sometimes what we do is that we wear the scarf and then sometimes a portion of it is taken

to pin up or to cover the face or to put on the side and in that process half of the chest is left exposed.

So make sure that you do something, you know like pin it on the other side or adjust it in a way that

the chest is covered. Because the chest, the breast is a part of a woman’s beauty, all right? It is

attractive, it is a noticeable part of her body and a woman must pay special attention to covering this

part of the body. And for this purpose the ابج ح has to be slightly bigger because sometimes we do

put something on the chest but then it is further highlighting because that is where all the colour is, or

that is where the ابج ح ends. So it should be concealing, so each person must look at themselves

wearing the ابج ح in the mirror, all right? And check are the curves of my breasts showing? Because

if they are through the ابج ح , despite the ابج ح , it defeats the purpose of ابج ح . I am sorry for being

so blunt over here but this is the حکم of Allah.

....and they should not expose their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their

husbands' fathers [meaning their father in law] their sons, their husbands' sons [meaning step

sons] their brothers, their brothers' sons, their sisters' sons [meaning their nephews] their

women....

Meaning reliable women, women who will not go and describe their beauty everywhere or who will

take pictures and share them on social media, no, rather women whom you can trust. That women

who respect the fact that you observe ابج ح and they will not describe you to men and nor will they

take your pictures and share them with the whole world. And:

....that which their right hands possess....

Over here slaves are meant and not servants

....or those male attendants having no physical desire....

This refers to people who are like, for example a man who is extremely old, having no sexual desire,

whatsoever. Not a man who is just barely in his 50’s or 60’s and you say uncle, right? No, he is a

man. This is talking about men who don’t have any physical desire left, given their physical

condition, their extreme old age.

....or children who are not yet aware of the private aspects of women....

Meaning little boys, but if they have learnt about these things through movies, through some school

curriculum, then we should observe ابج ح in front of them.

....And let them not stamp their feet to make known what they conceal of their adornment....

Meaning when they walk with that ابج ح on they should walk modestly, they shouldn’t wear a really

tall high heel, you know bringing attention, making noise with each step, No. Likewise, when they

walk, their hidden زین ة, it should not be exposed. What is hidden زین ة? Meaning the beauty that has

Juzz # 18 2015 فهم القرأ ن

منا تقبل ربنا Page 51

been covered. Like for example, a woman is covering her body but then when she walks, she really

stomps her feet, so that her body shakes. This is something that is not correct. Or she is walking in a

way that her ابج ح is flying behind her and her Abaya is flying on the other side, as if she is doing a

cat walk or something. No, be careful about how you walk, right. Especially when you have your

ابج ح and Abaya on, you are already in people’s attention. So be more careful.

.....And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers....

Yes, you believe but still repent because you do make mistakes in this regard no matter what, we do.

As women especially, when it comes to the matter of ابج ح , there are many times where we make

mistakes, right. We make mistakes. Sometimes the ابج ح is see through, sometimes it is attracting

more attention instead of concealing beauty, it is displaying more beauty. Sometimes it is worn but

it is not worn properly, so the hair is showing or through the ابج ح the hair is tied so high that is also

a source of attraction. So:

ننح يهح المؤهح أ ي ه ه جح لح هللايح تبا ا ه وح

ل ۃ ل ۃ is necessary but in addition to ص ۃزكو and ص , what else is it that we need to do according to

this آیة? Watch our gaze, guard our modesty and look at the way we dress also. This is something we

need to be careful about men and women.

And remember the beginning of the ضنح هح :سورۃ رح .Allah has made it obligatory - فح

So don’t just miss what is in this آیة, why? Because Allah has made it obligatory. ل ۃ ضر ف is ص ,

ابج ح is also ضر ف . Because you see sometimes we don’t feel like praying but we say to ourselves,

“I don’t have an option I have to pray.” Isn’t it? Likewise when it comes to ابج ح , when it comes to

covering yourself properly, this is also whose حکم? Whose order? Its Allah’s order! So yes, I find it

difficult but I got to do it and when you do it, it gets easier انشاء للا .

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:

“When someone whose religion and character you are pleased with proposes to one of you then

marry to him....

Meaning get your daughter married to him

....if you do not do so there will be turmoil in the land and a bounding discord”

[there will be a lot of Fitnah]

Ramadan is a time when دعا ‘s are accepted, so every day if you find yourself in a situation like this

or you know of somebody who is in a situation like this looking for a suitable match, every day make

”every day that, “Ya Allah you have created many people send one my way دعا make ,دعا

....If they should be poor, Allah will enrich them from His bounty, and Allah is all-

Encompassing and Knowing.

33. But let them who find not [the means for] marriage abstain until Allah enriches them from

His bounty....

Meaning if there is no way for a person to get married, he doesn’t find or she doesn’t find a suitable

match and its taking so long that does not justify doing حرام. A person cannot say, “Well I cannot

find anyone to marry me so I am just going to have a girlfriend or a boyfriend” Right? “Or I am just

going to date somebody who is not a Muslim.” No. In this situation, what is it that Allah says? They

should adopt chastity. They should fast, they should lower the gaze, they should keep themselves

busy in good work so much so that that thought of marriage and romance, it doesn’t keep bothering

them.

And also if you find yourself in a situation like this then don’t waste your time attending one

wedding party, part one, part two, part three and from that to another wedding to another wedding

and then just getting busy with clothes, and jewellery and makeup and looking with حسرۃ wondering,

“When am I getting married” getting angry and feeling jealous.

And this is something we need to think about also that we have made our wedding so extravagant

that people who do get married, they get to have fun but what about so many young men and women

who are still not married? What happens to them when they go to these wedding parties, the overly

extravagant wedding parties? What happens to them? They leave with حسرۃ, with so much bad

feelings that “I wish I could also one day get married.” We don’t want to acknowledge these issues

but these issues are real. There are so many Muslim men, women, young people who haven’t found

suitable spouses. And what happens when we make our weddings overly extravagant? We hurt their

feelings. So let’s be moderate, moderation is good.

.....And those who seek a contract [for eventual emancipation] from among whom your right

hands possess [meaning slave men and slave women] then make a contract with them if you

know there is within them goodness and give them from the wealth of Allah which He has

given you. And do not compel your slave girls to prostitution, if they desire chastity....

So if a slave wants to but their freedom, help them buy their freedom. And if there is a woman who

is being forced into prostitution, then remember that this is something unlawful. Because why would

you have a business like that?

... to seek [thereby] the temporary interests of worldly life.....

How selfish could that be!

....And if someone should compel them, then indeed, Allah is [to them], after their compulsion,

Forgiving and Merciful.

Meaning the woman who is forced into prostitution, she is not sinful because she is forced into it.

However the person who is forcing her, he is fully responsible.

34. And We have certainly sent down to you distinct verses and examples from those who

passed on before you and an admonition for those who fear Allah.

Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth....

He is the creator of light, He is the giver of light and His attribute is also of light.

.....The example of His light....

Meaning the guidance that He gives, the نور of ایمان, the ایمان that He gives to His servants...

.....is like that of a niche within which is a lamp, the lamp is within a glass, the glass as if it were

a pearly [white] star lit from [the oil of] a blessed olive tree, neither of the east nor of the west,

whose oil would almost glow even if untouched by fire. Light upon light. Allah guides to His

light whom He wills. And Allah presents examples for the people, and Allah is Knowing of all

things.

Here the نور is Allah’s light, which He knows the reality of, His صفة, His Attribute. Then light is also

the guidance, the ایمان that Allah bestows upon His servants. He gifts them with. Its example is like

that of a lamp in a niche so that its surroundings are illuminated. And when the light of ایمان enters

and settles in the heart then what happens? It illuminates the heart and if the lamp continues to

receive its supply of olive oil, then the lamp never dies and its light never extinguishes. Likewise,

the believer does not let his faith extinguish, so he has a continuous flow of الن فع عهلم beneficial

knowledge, so that the lamp of ایمان is always alight. And we see over here that Allah guides

whomsoever He wills. The heart of a believer is illuminated, enlightened and the heart of a

disbeliever is in darkness. The one with علم is in light and the one in له ج is in ةظلم in darkness. So

he who believes in Allah should learn the الن فع عهلم that Allah has given. Why? So that the نور enters

his heart, it transforms his actions and with that his surroundings also get illuminated because of his

good أ خل ق. And this is only possible when a person continuously strives for this cause and

continuously takes in the supply of pure olive oil of beneficial knowledge.

Because of their worldly occupations.

26

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:

“A Muslim does not regularly attend the Mosque to perform prayer and remember Allah but that

Allah feels happy with him, just as the family of one who is absent feels happy when he comes back

to them.”

Has it ever happened, one of the family member goes somewhere and when he comes back, do you

feel happy? Yes! Just like that when a person goes to the Masjid regularly each time he goes Allah

تعالى و سبحانه is also happy with him.

27

Someone asked Aisha ra: “What did the prophet used to do in his house?”

She said: “He used to keep himself busy serving his family and when it was time for prayer he would

go for it.”

So nothing of this world distracted him from the prayer.

39. [On the contrary] those who disbelieved - their deeds are like a mirage in a lowland which a

thirsty one thinks is water until, when he comes to it, he finds it is nothing however he finds

Allah before Him, and He will pay him in full his due; and Allah is swift in account.

You see this world is like a mirage, right? That from far it looks so beautiful, so attractive and you

are like, “Yeh let me get there and once I get there I will be perfect, I will be fine.” And once you get

there you see that “O I am not happy still.” It’s a deception. A person keeps chasing this world but

he never gets there, he never attains any success and in this chase he dies and it’s too late to go back

and make amends. So those who disbelieve their life is like this that all their life they are pursuing,

they are running after a mirage. And what happens? When they reach there, when they die, what is

the outcome of their deeds? It’s nothing, just like when you reach the mirage, what happens? Do

you even find a drop of water there? No, nothing at all, all you find is just sand, emptiness and that’s

exactly what a disbeliever will find in the Hereafter. That the worth of his life will be what? Nothing,

nothing at all. From far he thought he was doing a lot of good stuff but at the end he will find

nothing.

40. Or [they are] like darknesses within an unfathomable sea which is covered by waves....

Meaning extremely deep sea, so deep that you can’t even tell how deep it is and on top it is covered

....upon which are waves, over which are clouds...

Meaning there is a storm in the middle of the ocean.

....darknesses, some of them upon others....

One layer of darkness over the other

....When one puts out his hand [therein], he can hardly see it....

So dark it is he can barely see himself.

....And he to whom Allah has not granted light - for him there is no light.

For him there is no light. When there is darkness in the heart, no ایمان, no faith in Allah and darkness

also that a person has no beneficial knowledge. And then darkness in the people that he is living

amongst, he doesn’t see anything that will lead him to light. He doesn’t hear anything that will lead

him to light. Then what happens? This person is in the depths of darknesses. And the person whom

Allah does not grant light, for him there is no light. Who can guide him? Such people are not

guided because for guidance what is necessary? That burning desire; “I want to be guided, I want to

become better” And when a person has that yearning then Allah تعالى و سبحانه will grant him

guidance, this is His promise.

So in this month especially make it your habit. Force yourself if you have to, busy yourself in the ذکر

they join hands, when they consolidate their efforts instead of being divided, than the results are far

greater. A small cloud, it cannot shower rain.

....And He sends down from the sky, mountains [of clouds] within which is hail....

You see some clouds as they gather together, as they grow bigger and bigger, their results are so

much stronger and better and greater. Likewise, some people, when they come together, when they

consolidate their efforts, then what happens? The results are much better more productive.

55. Allah has promised those who have believed among you and done righteous deeds that He

will surely grant them succession [to authority] upon the earth just as He granted it to those

before them and that He will surely establish for them [therein] their religion which He has

preferred for them and that He will surely substitute for them, after their fear, security, [for]

they worship Me, not associating anything with Me. But whoever disbelieves after that - then

those are the defiantly disobedient.

You see those who obey Allah and then become firm. Then what will happen? Allah will change

their state from fear to peace, to security. Because initially when you tell yourself that I'm going to

obey this command of Allah, then what happens? Do you feel afraid? You do, because the whole

world is doing something else. If you're going to bring about a change, a visible change in your life,

people are not going to leave you alone. They're not going to leave you alone and this is something

that frightens us. Allah promises that I will replace their fear with security. That this fear will only

be there for how long? Just some time, very soon, very soon, Allah تعالى و سبحانه will make it easier.

But this is for who? Those who obey Allah, those who are firm in their obedience to Allah, then

Allah will give them security in this world. And it happens, it happens at a smaller level also.

You know like for example, you wanted to fast, the month of Ramadan was coming just two three

weeks ago and the thought of fasting would frighten you, right? And as you did your first حسر, you

were a little worried for yourself. And then what happened? By the end of the day at of the day,

ـهه حمد لهليح

And what happen the next day, and the day after and the day after? You see how fear .ال

turned into peace, into security.

But when is it that you can experience that? When you take that chance, when you take that risk. But

if a person says, “No, no, I cannot fast, seventeen, eighteen almost hours, average that to twenty.”

You know because when you are afraid, then what happens? Then things seem more scary than they

actually are, isn't it? So this is Allah’s promise you obey him, rely on Him, He will make things

easier for you.

57. Never think that the disbelievers are causing failure [to Allah] upon the earth. Their

refuge will be the Fire - and how wretched the destination.

58. O you who have believed, let those whom your right hands possess and those who have not

[yet] reached puberty among you ask permission of you [before entering] at three times:....

Meaning, children should not just walk in the bedroom of the parents without permission at these

three times. They should not open the bedroom door without permission at these three times. What

are these three times?

....before the Fajr dawn prayer and when you put aside your clothing [for rest] at noon and

after the night prayer. [These are] three times of privacy for you....

These are commands pertaining to modesty inside the house, right? ي اء inside the house. There is ح

ي اء ي اء outside the house and there's ح inside the house also. So a married couple, a person should ح

not barge into their room especially at these three times.

....There is no blame upon you nor upon them beyond these [three times] for they continually

circulate among you - some of you, among others....

You go to their room, they come to your room.

....Thus does Allah make clear to you the verses; and Allah is Knowing and Wise.

59. And when the children among you reach puberty, let them ask permission [at all times]

[when entering the house]....

Now the children; once they reach puberty then they have to seek permission at all times when they

are entering the house or they are entering the bedroom.

....as those before them have done. Thus does Allah make clear to you His verses; and Allah is

Knowing and Wise.

What do we see over here? That men, when they enter their own house even, what do they need to

do? They should let their presence be known or if the situation requires they need to seek permission

before they come in. Like for example, if a man goes to his house and in his house his wife is there,

and her sisters are there, and her cousins are there, her relatives are there, he shouldn't just walk in

“Oh it's my house!” It's a women's party, right! So, before coming in he should seek permission.

Likewise, when a boy is going into the house where his sisters are or a man is going into the house

where sister in law may be, or daughter in law maybe, than what should they do before entering?

Either seek permission if that is required or let their presence be known, all right? And who's going

to teach them this etiquette? Who's going to teach them? Mothers have to, if the fathers are not there

then the mothers have to because then what will happen? Boys, they walk into such spaces and they

don't even realize they are doing something wrong. And then these accidents happen where a girl

Juzz # 18 2015 فهم القرأ ن

was not wearing a hijab and a man just came in. So this is something that we need to remind our

men of اتيذان.

or really asking for permission or by سلم is basically to seek permission. How? By saying اتيذان

making your presence known. So a man, when he's going into a women's area, what does he have to

do? Make his presence known.

60. And women of post-menstrual age who have no desire for marriage - there is no blame

upon them for putting aside their outer garments [but] not displaying adornment....

Meaning an old, old woman, old woman who has no desire for marriage, if she doesn't have desire

for marriage that means, she doesn't even bother to wear jewelry or makeup or nice clothes. The

trousers are something else and the shirt is something else and the scarf is something else.

Mismatched; why? Because she is just concerned about comfort not her looks, you understand? The

hair is not even done properly; an old, old woman. So if she takes off her outer garment meaning her

If she takes that off, there is nothing wrong as long as she is not displaying .حجاب her ,جلباب

adornment, meaning now she should not say, “Oh let me get a nice haircut, and let me get my hair

colored, let me put some jewelry on.” No, she shouldn't do that, if she has makeup, jewelry, nice

clothes, colored hair and she has a young spirit, then she has to observe the ruling for a young body

too.

.....But to modestly refrain [from that] is better for them. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing.

61. There is not upon the blind [any] constraint nor upon the lame constraint nor upon the ill

constraint nor upon yourselves when you eat from your [own] houses or the houses of your

fathers or the houses of your mothers or the houses of your brothers or the houses of your

sisters or the houses of your father's brothers or the houses of your father's sisters or the

houses of your mother's brothers or the houses of your mother's sisters or [from houses] whose

keys you possess or [from the house] of your friend....

These relatives or mentioned over here that when you go to their house there is nothing wrong if you

eat food. Because in some cultures it's considered wrong. If you go to your daughter's house, she's

married, “Oh be very careful about how much you eat, and don't eat freely, be pretentious, even if

you need to tea, don't ask for tea.”

This kind of pretense that really makes life difficult, there's no need to do this, there's no piety in this.

And at the beginning of the آیة where the disabled are mentioned, what does that show? That just

because a person is suffering from a disability they should not be excluded from social gatherings.

They should be included.

....There is no blame upon you whether you eat together or separately....

Meaning if you're in a rush you might eat separately. But if you want to eat together that is also fine.

....But when you enter houses, give greetings of peace upon each other - a greeting from Allah,

blessed and good. Thus does Allah make clear to you the verses [of ordinance] that you may

understand.

Juzz # 18 2015 فهم القرأ ن

You see over here what is mentioned about eating together.

30

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:

“ بي ل هللاه ح أ حح ح مه ا ه ثحت عحلحيهه الطيح ي كح ده ال ح

The best food in the sight of Allah is that which the most hands share.”

Meaning the food may be little but there's a lot of people who want to eat from it that food is best in

the sight of Allah, when it is shared.

31

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said that:

“When the اشري run short of provision, then they collect whatever is with them in a cloth….

Meaning whatever anybody has they bring it. They have a pot-luck. And then they eat together

…. They are for me and I am from them.”

62. The believers are only those who believe in Allah and His Messenger and, when they are

[meeting] with him for a matter of common interest, do not depart until they have asked his

permission....

Meaning they don't leave just like that.

....Indeed, those who ask your permission, those are the ones who believe in Allah and His

Messenger. So when they ask your permission for something of their affairs, then give

permission to whom you will among them and ask forgiveness for them of Allah....

Because leaving ones work, leaving ones responsibility is not correct. This is something that we will

be questioned about. So here we see that even when the permission has been given, seek forgiveness

for them from Allah, ask Allah to forgive them because they are leaving their work and leaving work

leaving something that was assigned to you is a crime. This is something that's unfair.

....Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

63. Do not make [your] calling of the Messenger among yourselves as the call of one of you to

another....

When the Messenger calls you, when he orders you something, don't treat that like somebody else’s

statement, somebody else's command, somebody else's instruction. The statement of the Prophet is

not like the statement of Aristotle, all right. There's a huge difference. The statement of the Prophet

them, what would they do? They would just quietly slip away. Allah says:

....let those beware who dissent from the Prophet's order, lest a fitnah strike them or a painful

Meaning disobeying the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص not following the Sunnah can put one in great fitnah even in

this life. This is very very dangerous!

the Criterion [The Quran] upon His Servant that he may be to the worlds a warner -

Allah has sent this Qur’an as a criterion; something that tells us what is right and what is wrong. It

gives us the ability to distinguish between what is good and what is bad because after all this Qur’an

is نور, it is Hidaya, it is guidance from Allah. And why is it that Allah revealed this فرقان? So that

all people are warned, Qur’an is for all.

2. He to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and who has not taken a

son and has not had a partner in dominion and has created each thing and determined it with

[precise] determination.

So He is the one who has revealed this Qur’an, the One who has determined a decree for every

creature. Meaning divine decree, الق در, ری د ق ت , is not just for us it is something that applies to every

single creature.

Like for example, when we think of الق در, when we think of Divine Decree, we think that Ok a

person is only born when Allah decides they should be born. They only live as long as they're

supposed to live. Isn't it? Not a day more not a day less! A person can only eat what is decreed for

them. Their appearance, what they receive in their life, this is all according to Allah’s decree. But

this is not just related to human beings. Everything that is created whether it's in the skies or in the

earth or the depths of the ocean, buried within the earth, everything is according to Allah’s ری د ق ت , it’s

His planning, it's His decree. Just imagine His knowledge. Just imagine His power. He is the one

who has revealed this Qur’an.

3. But they have taken besides Him gods which create nothing, while they are created, and

possess not for themselves any harm or benefit and possess not [power to cause] death or life or

resurrection.

Who does this alone? Only Allah! So who could be God besides Allah?

4. And those who disbelieve say, "This [Qur'an] is not except a falsehood that he has

invented...

Who has invented? This servant Muhammad ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص has invented. This is what the disbelievers say.

....and another people have assisted him in it."....

Meaning he has taken the help of other people.

....But they have committed an injustice and a lie.

5. And they say, "Legends of the former peoples which he has written down, and they are

dictated to him morning and afternoon."

6. Say, [O Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص] [In response to all of these accusations]"It has been revealed by He who

knows [every] secret within the heavens and the earth. Indeed, He is ever Forgiving and

Merciful."

7. And they say, "What is this messenger that eats food and walks in the markets?....

He should have been some kind of super human.

....Why was there not sent down to him an angel so he would be with him a warner?

8. Or [why is not] a treasure presented to him [from heaven], or does he [not] have a garden

from which he eats?" And the wrongdoers say, "You follow not but a man affected by magic."

Ultimately, they say Muhammed ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص has been affected by magic. Allah says:

9. Look how they strike for you comparisons; but they have strayed, so they cannot [find] a

way.

They keep changing their mind, they are themselves confused. Because at one point they say he's

affected by magic, another point they say that he's a liar, another point they say he has learnt all of

this.

ي .10 ذه :is comforted here ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص The Prophet - تحبح رحكح اليح

Blessed is He [Meaning Allah] who if He willed, could have made for you [something] better

than that....

The people say why the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص has not been given a garden and so on and so forth, Allah says,

he could have given you something better than they demand.

....gardens beneath which rivers flow - and could make for you palaces.

11. But they have denied the Hour, and We have prepared for those who deny the Hour a

Blaze.

And so the demands the requests of such people, they're not fulfilled because these people, when

they're making these demands they're not seeking guidance they're just raising objections against the

Prophetملسو هيلع هللا ىلص.

12. When the Hellfire sees them from a distant place, they will hear its fury and roaring.

13. And when they are thrown into a narrow place therein bound in chains, they will cry out

thereupon for destruction.

14. [They will be told], "Do not cry this Day for one destruction but cry for much

destruction."

15. Say, "Is that better or the Garden of Eternity which is promised to the righteous? It will

be for them a reward and destination.[their final destination!]

So in the hereafter, there are only two homes. One home is for those who believe, those who are

righteous, and the other is for those who disbelieve. And there's a huge difference between these two

places.

For those who are righteous in جن ة Allah says:

16. For them therein is whatever they wish, [while] abiding eternally. It is ever upon your

Lord a promise [worthy to be] requested.

17. And [mention] the Day He will gather them and that which they worship besides Allah

and He will say, "Did you mislead these, My servants, or did they [themselves] stray from the

way?"

So on the Day of Judgment Allah will ask the false gods that were associated with Him that did you

tell people to worship you?

18. They will say, "Exalted are You! [O Allah] It was not for us to take besides You any

allies....

Meaning we ourselves worshiped you.

....But You provided comforts for them and their fathers until they forgot the message and

became a people ruined."

Meaning they got deceived by this world and they forgot You. And thus they became a people who

are ruined.

19. So they will deny you, in what you say, and you cannot avert [punishment] or [find] help.

And whoever commits injustice among you.... يا بهاب كح قه عحذح نذه

only can a person do something, can he صبر With .صبر is because of جن ة .is what matters صبر

achieve anything. And especially when dealing with people صبر is essential because Allah says:

مك ضح ح لنح ح جح ة وح تنح ض فه لهبح - We have made some of you a test for others.

Meaning when a person will interact with another, he will find moments that are very very difficult

to bear. Why? Because people are a test for each other. Even your best friend? Yes. Even your

husband? Yes. Even your parents? Yes. Even your children? Yes. Even your siblings? Of course!

Every person that you know, remember they are a test for you. Every person!

You know it's amazing little children even, what happens to them when they are at home for longer

hours? As soon as school ends and the two kids are at home, what happens to them? Every few

minutes there are fights, there are arguments. Little children even who can barely formulate full

sentences, they're fighting with each other. So what do you think will happen to these people as are

going to adults? What do you think will happen? Will they not have differences? Of course they will

have differences. Will they not disagree with one another? Yes, they will. Will they have times when

they will get hurt from each other? Yes. They’ll get annoyed from each other? Definitely. This is

something that is going to happen because man is فهتنحة for man. A person, a human being is a فهتنحة for another human being.

We think tests and trials, they come in the form of poverty, they come in the form of disease, they

come in the form of extreme cold, No. They also come in the form of your loved ones, your closest

ones. No matter who you sit with, you work with, you live with no matter who you marry,

remember there will be problems. There will be annoying incidents. There will be painful moments.

32

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:

“The believer who mixes with people and bears their annoyance with patience will have a greater

reward than the believer who does not mix with people and does not put up with their annoyance.”

Because what happens generally? The moment we get hurt from somebody we say, “That's it!

Delete contact.” Right! Unfriend. “No, they're not my friend anymore. I don't want to keep in touch

with them anymore.” Why? Because we two cannot get along with each other, well Ok if they're

stranger outside that's possible but what if they're your sibling? What if they're your spouse? What if

they're your parents? You have to live with them and you have to live with this test. The question

that Allah asks us is ون تحصبهح ?will you be patient ,أ

So this is a fact that the people in this world, the people in your life, they are a test for you. There is

no avoiding that, you cannot fix it, you cannot get rid of this test. This is part of life and it will

forever be like that. The question is what we need to worry about is ون تحصبهح ?will you be patient ,أ

Because for example your brother; do you have an option of keeping him as your brother or not

keeping him as your brother? Do you have that option? No, Allah decreed, they are your brother, all

right. And this means for life you will suffer at their hands, all right.

So the question is ون تحصبهح So we shouldn't be worrying about how I can avoid this person and get .أ

rid of this person because that's not going to solve a problem. You eliminate one person from your

life another will come. Whoever is a part of your life will be a test for you remember. So the solution

is not in getting rid of people, the solution is not in cutting off from people. The solution is in

learning how to be patient. This is the key - ون تحصبهح until when? Until the end of our صبر And .أ

lives.

And this is what we need to beg Allah for:

ا رح ب لنه صح ح هميح اج الليح

That o Allah You make me extremely, extremely patient

You see when children are little, mothers take comfort in that, “O one day they'll grow up.” Then

what happens when they grow up? They come with their own set of problems. So this is a fact of

life that problems will never go away especially those that we suffer at the hands of people. So we

have to learn how to be patient. We have to learn how to control ourselves, how to deal with toxic

people, how to deal with the toxic environments, how to remain happy despite the fact that things are

going against our wishes. This is what we need to learn about. May Allah ی و سبحان تعال grant us all
