Pricing & Finance Session 3
Pricing & Finance
You should discuss the following:
1. Where will you obtain the raw materials?
2. How much will they cost?
3. What will it cost to transport these materials?
4. How much time would it take to make one complete product?
5. Do you need to buy any equipment and if so how much would it cost
to buy or hire it?
6. Taking all of these questions into consideration, calculate how much it
will cost to produce 10 boxed units of your idea. Include the cost of
packaging.
During this session your team will begin to analyse financially how much it will cost for you to produce the final product
including packaging.
Now that you’ve looked at costs it’s time to decide the price
customers will pay for it.
Q: What is a ‘profit margin’ and why is it important to have one?
Discuss as a group then create the following:
• Price tag/point – Can be attached to box or sit separately but must
be clearly visible to passing customers
• Deal or special offer (for example buy 3 get one free or get 20% of
first purchase)
Pricing & Finance
Choose a new ‘Lead’ for this session who will be
responsible for ensuring the product is
adequately and realistically priced.
• What impression or reaction do you think
people may have when they see a
product without a visible price point?
• Which factors in manufacturing can have the greatest effect on the cost of
production?
