Topic: Hobbies

Focus: Language Arts

Content Standard: 4.1 By the end of the 6-year primary schooling, pupils will be able to enjoy and appreciate rhymes, poems and songs.

4.3 By the end of the 6-year primary schooling, pupils will be able to plan, organize and produce creative works for enjoyment.

Learning Standard: 4.1.2 Able to recite nursery rhymes and action songs with correct pronunciation, rhythm and intonation.

4.3.1 Able to produce simple creative works with guidance based on: a) action songs

Learning objective:At the end of the lesson, all the pupils in their respective levels should be able to

a) Show enjoyment and appreciation on song, “What’s Your Hobby” with correct pronunciation, rhythm and intonation.

b) Produce simple creative works by making at least 1 out of 2 straw puppets.

1. Teacher asks the students what they can identify from the pictures shown.

1. Teacher sings the action song “What’s Your Hobby” with the tune of “Where is Thumbman?”

1. Students mimic the actions while singing the song.

students to sing in pairs

2. Teacher asks the students to group themselves and let the students sing in their group

2. The students form groups and they need to sing the song in the group

Production (± 15 minutes)

1. Teacher demonstrate on how to make a stick puppet

2. Teacher distributes five pictures to each group and they need to make stick puppets using the pictures given.

3. Teacher ask each group to show their work to the class

1. Students watch the teacher demonstrate on how to make a stick puppet.

2. Students make stick puppet and decorate the puppet based on their creativity

3. Students show their work to their friends

Stick puppet, pictures, scissors, coloured pencils, sticky tape and A4-sized cardboard.

Closure(± 5 minutes)

1. Teacher sings the action song again with the stick puppet.

2. Teacher infuses the values learnt.

1. Students stand in groups and use the stick puppet while singing the song with actions.
