As the year comes to a close, many of us use this time to reflect on our past accom-
plishments and prepare for new and exciting opportunities in the upcoming year. In the
spirit of the season, the HR Alliance hosted its 4th annual holiday party on December 2,
2010 to toast its members and celebrate their success.
HR Alliance members gathered for cocktails and conversation at The Midtown Executive
Club, one of the best kept secrets in Manhattan. Located in the heart of midtown, this
turn of the century historic clubhouse is in the National Register of Historic Places and
was recently restored to its turn-of-the-century elegance.
Sponsored by Ceridian, with planning help from Boutique Event, the event was a fun
and informal way for members to exchange holiday greetings, interact with friends and
colleagues, and make new connections.
The HR Alliance thanks its sponsor for their generous support in hosting the party, as
well as for providing the wonderful raffle prizes. Guests entered for a chance to win an
Amazon Kindle and a gourmet dessert basket. Congratulations to the lucky winners.
As the evening came to a close, many guests shared similar sentiments, “let’s do this
again soon!” So from all of us at the HR Alliance, join us in 2011 as we embark on our
fifth year and let’s continue to find exciting and new opportunities together.
FOUNDER’S CORNER By: Jason Boltax Now, with the holidays
behind us, the year 2011
is about to begin. For
many HR Alliance mem-
bers, the best is yet to
come. As we reassess
our goals for the new year, and try to
maintain a positive outlook, we remind all
HR Alliance members to take pride in
what we do. As Human Resources profes-
sionals, we create, educate, support, ad-
vise, and guide the work force of this
great city. There is plenty to celebrate in
our work.
And so, here’s a toast to you, HR Alli-
ance members: May 2011 bring pros-
perity and good fortune to you and
yours! Thank you for all that you have
contributed to our organization. We
look forward to continuing our pat-
tern of growth and success with you,
and for you, this year and in the fu-
ture.
All the best,
P.S. I hope to see you at our first event of
the new year on Wednesday, January 5,
2011 for a very important topic: Master

Patrecia West is a workforce, or-
ganizational and development pro-
fessional with over twenty years of
experience working in a wide vari-
ety of venues, sector, and roles.
She has had a career that has
shaped her own unique organiza-
tional sense, wisdom, intelligence,
and expertise. She attributes this
to holding a series of positions
ranging from Technical Trainer to
Assistant Director of Training to Manager of Management
and Executive Development at both for-profits and non-
profits. These include PWC, North American Philips, March
of Dimes, and Blue Cross Blue Shield.
Most recently, Pat was at the Girl Scouts of the USA for
approximately 6 years, however due to a large consolida-
tion of workforce and restructuring, her position was nega-
tively impacted. She is now actively seeking a new role in
organizational development and hopes to make a signifi-
cant impact wherever she ends up.
Patrecia has her Bachelor’s of Science degree in English
Secondary Education from Tennessee A. & I. State Univer-
sity. As her career progressed, she decided to go back to
school to obtain her Masters of Arts in Organizational Be-
havior and Psychology in the School of Social Psychology
from Columbia University. She felt this would propel her in
the direction she wanted to take her career: making an
impact through organizational change, mentoring, and
leadership.
When asked what makes HR a career choice for her, Pat
mentioned in every organization, it is through human in-
teractions that all results and value are created. Following
this logic, every aspect of that interaction – communica-
tion, relationships and performance all fall within the arena
of HR. “It is the life blood of the organization and creates
its DNA.” Pat’s chosen area falls under the domain of nur-
turing and supporting – working with HR and senior lead-
ers to enable developing and delivering potential in indi-
viduals and groups. This, in turn, has a significant impact
throughout the organization, from increased performance
to happier employees and higher morale.
When Pat has free time, she tries to attend as many pro-
fessional development and networking opportunities as her
schedule permits. She is active in the Organization Devel-
opment Network of New York (ODNNY) and the New Jer-
sey and New York American Society for Training and De-
velopment (ASTD). Though quite involved in HR focused
groups, her diverse professional interests do not stop at
the HR border, she enjoys events that are business fo-
cused and considered outside her field. For example, she
has subscribed to weekly conference calls hosted by IT
professionals. She is always looking to learn new skills and
improve upon the ones already in her repertoire.
Regarding Pat’s career goals, she would like to continue
focusing on organizational development. Specifically, she
wants to show organizations how to better link sustaining
and developmental work with employees to key business
strategies and drivers.
If you are interested in connecting with Pat and learning
more about her HR experiences, she can be reached at
