Let’s Play Ball!Before you head to the baseball
stadium to watch your favoriteteam, review these unspoken rulesof the ballpark to make theexperience positive for everyone inthe stands:
• Be supportive. If your team’scolor is blue, wear blue,regardless of your age orgender.
• During the national anthem,remove your hat and stand ifyou’re able.
• Don’t change seats—yet.Moving to a better sectionthan the one for which youhave tickets is as old asbaseball itself. But, wait untilthe fifth inning to do so.Scout your desired seats a fullinning before that to ensurethe seats are, indeed,unoccupied.
• Watch your language.Children are bound to bewithin earshot.
• Don’t leave early unless anemergency demands it. Youdon’t want to be the fan whoexits prematurely, only tomiss your team’s winninggrand slam in the ninth.

UnderstandingSunscreen
Wearing sunscreen is a safe,easy way to protect your skin fromsun damage that can lead topremature aging, sunburn andskin cancer.
The ingredients in sunscreenwork together to block or absorbthe sun’s ultraviolet rays beforethey reach your skin. Chooseproducts labeled asbroad-spectrum, which meansthey protect against both UVA rays(the cause of wrinkles and agespots) and UVB rays (the causeof sunburn).
The Food and DrugAdministration recommendssunscreens with a sun protectionfactor of at least 15, whiledermatologists advise using SPF30 or above. This number refers tothe percentage of the sun’s raysthat the sunscreen blocks. SPF 15filters out 93 percent of incomingrays, and SPF 30 filters out97 percent.
About 15–30 minutes beforeyou go outside, apply 1 ounce—about a full shot glass—ofsunscreen to the parts of yourbody not covered by clothing.Don’t forget the tops of your feet,the tips of your ears and anyexposed areas of your scalp.Sunscreen does not last all day, soreapply it every two hours, ormore often if you have beenperspiring or swimming.
Tiki TeriyakiChicken Wings
Ingredients:• 10 chicken wings• 2/3 c. teriyaki
marinade/sauce• 1/3 c. mango nectar• 2 cloves garlic, pressed• ¼ t. Chinese five-spice
powder*Directions:Disjoint chicken at drummette
and midsection. Combineremaining ingredients; pour overchicken in large plasticfood-storage bag. Press air out ofbag; close top securely. Turn bagover several times to coat allpieces. Refrigerate two to fourhours, turning bag overoccasionally. Grill chicken overmedium-hot coals 20 to 25minutes, or until chicken is nolonger pink near bone, turningover frequently. (Or, broil chicken5 inches from heat source 20 to25 minutes, or until chicken is nolonger pink near bone, turningover frequently.)
*If not available, makefive-spice by combining ½ t.fennel seed, crushed; ¼ t. aniseseed, crushed; and ¼ t. eachground cinnamon, cloves andginger.

Lunch at Bubba Gump in Galveston
The theme for July in the Circleof Friends was “Reaching for theStars.” We learned all about theuniverse in which we live and thehistory of space exploration.Residents shared their memoriesof the historic moon landing andwe discussed the more recent goalof sending astronauts to Mars. Wealso learned about astrology andhad a fun time contemplating ourhoroscope signs!

We had a fun month in theNeighborhood: music, Saturdaymatinees with popcorn, and somehilarious games of Password. InAugust, we’re looking to start amonthly drumming circle; we’regoing to have a blast!

Today Is the MostImportant Day
Finding the Motivation to ExerciseWe all understand that exercise
is important for health andwell-being. Recent research hasshown that regular exercise canstrengthen us both mentally andphysically, leading to bettermobility, reduced falls andimproved cognitive function. But,sometimes, even goodunderstanding and strongcommitment aren’t enough.
The following tips are designedto help us overcome excuses andget started today!:
Tip No. 1: Exercise increasesenergy—it will not make youtired all the time. Feeling tootired to exercise is a commonexcuse, but the lack of exercisemay actually be to blame. Evennormally active individuals whotake a few weeks off from exercisebegin to feel more sluggish,lethargic and unmotivated toexercise. Start standing up andmoving around more frequently,and you’ll likely feel re-energizedinstead of drained.
Tip No. 2: If you don’t use it,you lose it. Poor health is anothermajor barrier to exerciseparticipation, but not one thatyou can’t overcome. In fact,
becoming more active actuallyimproves your health in so manyways, even if it’s ailing. What youdon’t use, you lose, though. Sofight back and prevent some ofthe decline just by beingphysically active.
Tip No. 3: Make exercise fun.Take advantage of the fitnessactivities, support and equipmentat Belmont Village. Invite a friendto exercise with you—you’ll bemore motivated to keep the date ifyou know someone is countingon you.
Tip No. 4: Exercise one step ata time. The most common excusefor not exercising on a regularbasis is lack of time, so stopthinking of exercise as onlyplanned activities and insteadsimply try to move more all daylong. For most people, themajority of their calorie useduring the day comes from thesetypes of unstructured activitiesrather than a formal exercise plan.Remember that all activitiescount, and doing anything isbetter than doing nothing.
We can’t change our past fitnessperformance, and we can’t alwayscontrol what tomorrow will bring,but we can make a differencetoday. By renewing ourcommitment to exercise each day,for one day, we can achieve asense of accomplishment that willcarry over to every aspect ofour lives.
