Reporting changes this semester for Years 1 - 6

With the introduction of Guided Inquiry lessons to Release from Face to Face (RFF) teaching sessions, we are unable to report in our traditional method for the following Key Learning Areas (KLAs):

Science and Technology

History and Geography

Creative Arts

Personal Development, Health and Physical Education

In the past, we have provided one comment, a grade and effort rating for each one of these areas. Guided Inquiry lessons are addressing integrated and different KLAs each term, that are usually the responsibility of the classroom teacher. This means that classroom teachers are not able to comment on all or part of some KLAs. This semester, in each of the KLAs listed above, students will still receive, a grade and effort scale. However, rather than four separate comments, there will be one larger comment, where teachers will report on their teaching and learning program and student achievement. The Assistant Principals, Mrs Shankar and Mrs Allen will provide a comment on each report in regards to student achievement in Guided Inquiry and will contribute to student grades and their effort scale.

We believe that moving to this way of reporting, will enable teachers to provide comments on student capabilities in regards to both content understanding and important learning skills to provide more detail for parents. Please contact the school if you have any further questions in regards to reports. Safe traffic around the school Concerned parents and community members have contacted the school in regards to student safety of a morning and afternoon. The main issue raised is that cars are double parking and children are running in between cars, across the street and driveways to get in or out of the school. It is essential that parents park, then students cross at the crossing with the supervisor. If these rules are followed, children and community members will stay safe at our school. Congratulations to these students and classes:

Muhammad in 1/2H for enthusiastic participation in Guided Inquiry lessons.

Matilda (1/2H) for supporting me in the Week 2 K-2 assembly, by bravely answering my questions in front of all students and using the microphone.

Julia and Arisha from 3/4M for an engaging presentation, during Guided Inquiry, about Sacagawea. They included information about her and the impact of her part in the Lewis and Clarke exploration expedition.

Stage 1 teachers for determining comprehension goals for the next five weeks. The teachers are hoping that:

Year 1: 77% students will move from Cluster 4 to Cluster 5 by Week 8 Term 2.

Year 2: 83% students will move from Cluster 6 to Cluster 7 by Week 8 Term 2. If students in these grades meet their comprehension learning goals, this will ensure that these students stay on track with their learning in this area.

With the new School Plan comes new committees. The Events Committee is a new concept.

The purpose is to celebrate and commemorate significant events which enhance the LPS community.

Members of the committee:

Leader – Mrs Hambley

Members – Miss Hall, Mrs Garai, Mrs Shankar, Mrs Thompson, Miss Churchin

I am very excited to be leading the Events Committee and would like to share some reflections and future events.

Term 1 Reflections

Harmony Day

This year Harmony Day’s theme was “Everyone Belongs”. Students excitedly shared their culture through literacy with a book or a song. Classes shared their understanding of Harmony day by creating a poster which was shared in the office foyer. LPS & Community Of School (COS) ANZAC Events

ANZAC day was commemorated through a whole school assembly which was well attended by our school community. The Events Committee provided resources to classes to allow all students to be engaged in learning about the meaning and significance of ANZAC day. Thirty-five students, staff and our community respectively attended the local Campbelltown ANZAC event. School captains Jordan and Emily laid a wreath. Future Events

Term 2 & 4 Cultural Celebration with Community

In place of Interest Groups, which meet Strategic Direction targets of the previous school plan; we will be focusing upon our community sharing their culture. The two culture groups that will be focused upon this year are the Aboriginal and the Indian culture. We will begin with the Aboriginal community sharing their culture during NAIDOC week. This will involve Aboriginal students and their families learning and sharing their culture together - this will cross over into Aboriginal Education. The second event will be in Term 4 with the Indian students and families sharing their culture. Term 3 Education Week Education Week is the 6-10 of August and the theme is “Today's schools - creating tomorrow's world”. During this week there will be a literacy focus with the author David Legge visiting and sharing with students how he plans, composes, reviews and publishes his work. This reflects stage focuses. Community will be invited to share in student learning with open classrooms. Dates will be confirmed closer to the occasion. Term 3 Book Week Book Week is the 18-24 of August and the theme is “Find Your Treasure”. Classes will continue with their exploration of David Legge’s books and students will be sharing their learning with their peers. Community will be invited to attend the book fair during this week as well. Term 3 Year 6 Fair This is a stage 3 event. The Fair will occur on the 26 of September. I look forward to sharing with our community the student learning that has occurs during activities organised by the Events Committee. Mrs Linda Hambley Assistant Principal

The Events committee coordinated the school and attendance at the community ANZAC commemorations this year.

Thank you to community for your support in donating flowers to create class wreaths/bouquets and for supporting the

assembly and the community event. A special mention to Miss Smith for her assistance with making these events

successful.

LPS ANZAC Day Commemoratory Assembly

On Friday the 13th of April, our school honoured the ANZACs with a whole school assembly. SRC

and class representatives laid the wreaths in respect; with stage 3 students helping the

Kindergarten representatives. As a whole school we sung the Nation Anthems for Australia and

New Zealand. We respectively listened to the Last Post, which was followed by a minute of silence

in honour of the thousands of Australian and New Zealand soldiers that paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Community of School ANZAC Commemoration

On ANZAC Day 35 students, their families and LPS Staff represented our school and marched to Mawson Park. Jordan

and I laid our school wreath as a mark of respect. Many people shared during the ceremony including: our local RSL

and Member of Parliament the Honourable Mike Freelander. The Australian National Anthem was performed by

former Hi 5 member and Campbelltown local, Nathan Foley. Our school was then called upon and Jordan and I laid our

school wreath as a mark of respect. Lest We Forget.

Community Recognition

We proudly received the below letter from the RSL.

Verbal Warning Lockout from SRL Chart

Staff have recently reviewed PBL procedures. As a result students who receive a Verbal Warning in the classroom or on the playground will not receive an SRL stamp on their chart for that day. This is to ensure that students are being rewarded appropriately for following our school behaviour expectations of being safe, respectful, learners. This change will come into effect Week 2 of Term 2. All teachers have talked about this change with their classes during Week 1 to support students as we transition into the new procedures in Week 2.
