Our strong connections with industry will provide you with the opportunity to connect with leading sport, recreation, leisure and high performance organisations whilst learning from industry experts, coaches and elite athletes.

At SEDA, you can study a curriculum matched to your interests, complete a practical placement and have the opportunity to run events interstate or abroad.

Upon successful completion, you will have the opportunity to move into further study with a range of universities or to transition into the workforce, equipped with the knowledge and skills for a successful future.

COURSE OUTLINE INTAKE & COURSE DURATION› January 2018

› 11 months

COURSE DELIVERY› 2 days of face to face delivery in the classroom

› Minimum of 80 hours of Practical Placement in the industry must be completed

› 1-5 hours per week of structured online training

› Students can also expect self-paced learning on the remaining days of the week to reinforce skills.

ASSESSMENT Students will be assessed using a range of different methods including:

› Direct observation

ADVANCED COACHINGAs the coach, you will plan, implement and evaluate coaching sessions which incorporate the use of sport psychology techniques and sports nutrition. You will learn how to effectively utilise the assistance of support personnel (e.g. exercise physiologist, psychologist, strength and conditioning coach, assistant coach, dietician etc.) to get the best out of your athletes.

THE ELITE ATHLETEYou will have the opportunity to design and deliver strength and conditioning programs to clients and gain first-hand experience as to what it is like to work in the fitness industry, including an understanding of the latest in sports technology. As part of delivering the training program you have developed you will also provide nutritional advice to your clients to increase their peak performance.

EVENTS INDUSTRYYou will plan and implement a real event linked directly to the strategic plan of a peak sporting organisation. You will feel part of the team, learn from industry staff and see your hard work come to life. You will have the opportunity to develop your understanding of both sourcing sponsorship and utilising different approaches to generate revenue to run your event. There is even the opportunity for you to run your event interstate or abroad!

READY TO WORK You will develop an individual career plan and professional portfolio to kick start your career. This will help you secure a practical placement that is linked to your interests and is specific to your career aspirations. There is the opportunity to complete your placement within organisations including AFL, VFL, TAC Clubs, AFL Victoria, Netball Victoria, Basketball Victoria, Tennis Victoria, Melbourne Victory, Melbourne City, Cricket Australia, Cricket Victoria, Melbourne Renegades, Melbourne Stars, Belgravia Leisure and Acceleration Melbourne.

Other topics covered in the course include Sport & the Law and Marketing with Social Media.

GOLF PERFORMANCE COURSEThe Golf Performance Program is a high performance suitable for students looking to enter the PGA Trainee Program or an undergraduate degree/course. PARTICIPATION COORDINATOR HOCKEY AUSTRALIAJames secured a role as Development Officer with Cricket Victoria upon graduating from his Diploma with SEDA. Following this role, James secured a position with Hockey Victoria in their game development department and he is now working as a Participation Coordinator with Hockey Australia.

BEN ABBATANGELOCURRENT CO-CEO OF AIME (AUSTRALIAN INDIGENOUS MENTORING EXPERIENCE)After graduating, Ben had a number of jobs within the sporting industry including Community Programs Assistant at Cricket Victoria. Ben then moved into the role of Communications Coordinator at AIME. AIME is an educational program that supports Indigenous students through high school and into university or employment. Ben has risen to the rank of co-CEO with AIME at just twenty-three years old. He is passionate about advocating for the Indigenous people and wants to continue changing the face of the country.

CHRIS MCKAYFOOTBALL TECHNOLOGY ASSISTANT ST KILDA FOOTBALL CLUBIn his Diploma year, Chris completed his work placement at St Kilda Football Club. This work placement led to him being offered a full-time job with the club as a Football Technology Assistant. He has been in the role for three years now and hopes to move into a coaching development role in the future

EMILY BARNARD-CUTRIS BACHELOR OF PARAMEDICINE VICTORIA UNIVERSITYEmily chose to complete the SEDA Diploma because of the opportunity to get into university and achieve her dream of one day becoming a paramedic. In her Diploma year, Emily completed a practical placement with Yachting Victoria and was involved in variety of medic roles in the local community. Emily is currently in her second year of Paramedicine, also working as a first aid medic in a part-time role. After graduating, Emily is hoping to secure a Paramedic role with Ambulance Victoria.

SHERIDAN LONG TEACHER, SEDA COLLEGE VICTORIA Whilst completing her Diploma, Sherridan worked with Melbourne Victory staff and players, ran major sporting events, and managed fundraising campaigns for charities.After completing the SEDA program, she studied a Bachelor of Applied Science and a Graduate Diploma in Secondary Education. Upon successful completion of her studies, she secured her dream role as a teacher at SEDA College Victoria. Sherridan is combining her work with further study through her Masters of Teaching to broaden her knowledge and skill set.

ERAY SABAN EVENT COORDINATOR ETIHAD STADIUMDuring his Diploma year, Eray found his passion for events while running a Basketball Program for over 400 participants. This provided him with a strong foundation into the industry and allowed him to develop a variety of key skills. He then went on to study a Bachelor of Business (Events) and after completing his degree secured a role at Tennis Australia. He has since moved into the role of Events Coordinator at Etihad Stadium and manages a number of events, including AFL games, at the venue.

ELLEN GELLIS YOUTH OUTREACH & PROGRAM SUPPORT OFFICER, BANYULE YOUTH SERVICESThrough the Diploma Program, Ellen discovered her passion for youth work when given the opportunity to plan and deliver a Young Women’s Netball Program in the Tiwi Islands.

After completing her Diploma, Ellen transitioned into a Bachelor of Youth Work and completed a placement at Banyule City Council in the Youth Services Department. Through her good work, Ellen was then offered a full-time position as a Youth Outreach Officer.

CHELSEA EDWARDSPOLICE OFFICERThrough her work placement in her Diploma year, Chelsea gained part-time employment with Yachting Victoria teaching sailing courses all across Victoria. Upon graduating Chelsea gained employment with Royal Brighton Yacht Club as the Discovery Sailing Coordinator. At the beginning of 2016, Chelsea seized the opportunity to apply for Victoria Police. After a nine month application process, Chelsea began her dream career as a Constable with Victoria Police.

JOSH KRUSEBACHELOR OF JOURNALISM (SPORT) LA TROBE UNIVERSITYJoshua is studying a Bachelor of Journalism (Sport) at La Trobe University. Through this course, he has worked at the Australian Grand Prix and travelled to the Singapore Grand Prix as an FIA accredited journalist. He is also writing for motorsport website RichardsF1.com. Josh’s next goal is to move to the UK to follow the Formula 1 circuit as a journalist.

RACHEL NAPOLITANOBACHELOR OF COACHING VICTORIA UNIVERSITY, MANAGING DIRECTOR OF CUTTING EDGE CRICKETAfter graduating from SEDA, Rachel and her family started up their own business, Cutting Edge Cricket, which involves the management of an indoor cricket training and coaching facility. Rachel is currently the Managing Director of Cutting Edge Cricket and she is also part of their coaching panel. Rachel is also enrolled in a Bachelor of Coaching at Victoria University to further her skills.
