6.PriortoJuly1,2018,a7thgradestudentcannotturnfourteenandbeeligibletoparticipatetheir7thgradeyearinMSHSAAactivities.PriortoJuly1,2017,an8thgradestudentcannotturnfifteenandbeeligibletoparticipateintheir8thgradeyearinMSHSAAactivities.7.Duringthesportsseason,astudentmaynotparticipateinnon-schoolpracticeorcompetitioninthesamesport.8.Studentsmaynotpracticeorcompeteinanon–schoolcompetitiononthesamedateheorshepracticesorcompetesfortheschoolwithoutapprovaloftheActivitiesDepartment.9.Ifastudenttransfersschools,he/sheisineligiblefor365daysfromthedateoftransferunlessthereisacorrespondingchangeofresidenceoftheparentsorunlesshe/shemeetsotherMSHSAAexceptionstothisrule.10.Astudentwillremaineligiblesolongashe/shedoesnotcommitanactthatmightbeinterpretedasunsportsmanlikeconductwhileplayingorattendingaschoolactivity.11.Astudentmustnotfailmorethanoneclasstoremaineligiblethenexttermormakesatisfactoryprogressinspecialeducation.12.Transferringfromoneschooltoanothersolelybecauseofathleticsoractivitieswillmakethestudentineligibleforonefullyear.13.Thisisonlyapartiallistofstandards.Askyourcoachoradministrationforanystandardsinspecialcases.BehaviorGuidelinesWhenAttendingAthleticEvents1.Behaviorexpectationsatafter–schoolactivitiesarethesameasduringschoolhours.2.Cheeringforyourteamisalwaysencouragedasteamspirit.3.Respectthecallsandjudgmentsofthegameofficials.Donotquestionanofficial’scall.Wehaveneverseenanofficialchangetheirmindaboutacallbasedonthedispleasureofthecrowd.Beingagoodsportleavesapositiveimpressiononpeopleandmanytimestheonlyimpressionsomepeoplewillhaveiswhattheyseeatanathleticevent.4.Whilethegameisinprogress,youareexpectedtoremainseatedinthestands.Remember,themainreasonyouareatanathleticeventistowatchyourteam.Everyonearoundyouappreciatesyouremainingseatedsotheymaywatchandenjoythegamealso.5.Stompingonbleachersisnotallowed.ThisisarulingfromtheMSHSAA.6.Pleasemakeappropriatearrangementstogetpickedupfromtheeventassoonasitisover.ClubsandOrganizationsNumerousclubsandorganizationsexistatLewis&Clarktoencouragestudentstobeactiveinawidevarietyofinterests.Thefollowingareexamplesoftheseorganizations:Archery,ArtClub,DramaClub,TRENDClub,Robotics,FCA,SpiritClub,andSTUCO.ToparticipateinClubActivities,onemustmeettheClub’sguidelinesthataredeterminedbytheClubSponsor.Processtoformnewclubs:• Obtainpermissionfromtheadministration.• Agreementwithafacultymember(s)toactastheclubsponsor.• Writtenguidelinesofpurpose.• Writtenconstitution.• ApprovalofAdministrationofallwrittenguidelinesandconstitution.
StudentCouncilTheStudentCouncilismadeupoffourofficers:president,vice–president,secretary,andtreasurer,whoareelectedbytheentirestudentbodyaswellasteamrepresentatives,oneelectedbyeachoftheteams.ThesearethevotingmembersofStudentCouncil.AdelegatefromeachAdvisory,whowillserveasliaisonbetweentheirAdvisoryandthecouncil,joinsthem.MediaCenterTheMediaCenterislocatedonthefirstfloorandisopenfrom7:50AMto3:15PMdaily.Booksmaybecheckedoutfortwoweeks.StudentsmustpresenttheirIDcardtocheckoutbooks.Lostand/ordamagedbooksshallbetheresponsibilityofthestudentcheckingoutthebook.StudentIDEachstudentisissuedapictureIDcard.Thiscardshouldbecarriedatalltimeswiththepictureandnamevisible.Thecardisnecessaryforeatinglunch,checkingoutmaterialsfromthemediacenterandtogainadmittancetoafter-schoolactivitiesandparties.AreplacementIDmaybepurchasedinthefrontofficefor$5.00.

whetherornottobringpersonalcellphones,musicplayers,cameras,andotherelectronicdevicestoschool.Theycanbedisruptivetothelearningenvironment,oftencreatedisciplineproblems,andarealltofrequentlydamaged,lost,orstolen.Parentsareremindedthatincaseofanemergency,themainofficeistheappropriatepointofcontacttoensurethatyourchildisreachedquicklyandassistedinanappropriateway.Ifstudentsdobringcellphonesand/orotherelectronicdevicestoschool,theywillneedtobeturnedoffduringthe

RecreationalItems/ElectronicsJeffersonCityPublicSchoolsarenotresponsibleforlost,stolen,ordamagedcell-phones,recreationalitems,toys,orelectronicitemsstudentsbringtoschool.PassPolicyStudentsmusthaveahallpass,signedbyastaffmember,tobeinthehallwaysattimesotherthanroutinepassingtimes.Specificbathroomandhallpassesareprovidedinclassrooms–thesearealternativesfromthesignedhallpassesandstudentsarerequiredtosignoutandsignintotheclassroom.BehaviorInterventionSupportTeam(B.I.S.T.)TheBehaviorInterventionSupportTeam(BIST)grewoutofadesiretokeepat-riskstudentsinacommunityschool.Itsmissionistohelpteachers,administrators,parentsandstudentslearntechniquestoeffectpositivechangeandcreateahealthylearningenvironmentforall.TheBehaviorInterventionSupportTeamaccomplishesthisthroughG.R.A.C.E.(GivingResponsibilityandAccountabilitytoChildreninEducation(takenfromhttp://bist.org/mission.html).StudentswhomisbehaveinclassanddisruptthelearningenvironmentmovealongaplacementcontinuumatLCMS.Thecontinuumisasfollows:normalclassroomplacement,safeseat,buddyroom,andoffice.Theobjectoftheplacementcontinuumistokeepstudentssafe.Studentswhomovetoabuddyroomortheofficemustprocesswiththeteacherwithwhomtheproblemoriginatedbeforere-entranceintothenormalclassroomenvironment;thisinvolvesthecompletionofathinksheetandpersonalinteractionbetweenteacherandstudent.ThinkSheets/SuccessPlans–Studentswhostrugglewithbehaviorinthenormalclassroomenvironmentaresometimesputongoalsheets.Studentsonsuccessplansaskeachoftheirteacherstoranktheirperformanceinrelationtoeachgoal.StudentswhofailtohavetheirgoalsheetssignedmaybeassignedtoTeamFocus.Studentsonsuccessplanscanbetakenoffofthemiftheteachersagreethatgoalshavebeenmetforasubstantialperiodoftime.TeamFocus–StudentswhohavetroublebeingsafeinthenormalclassroomenvironmentaresometimesinvitedbytheirteacherstospendtimeinTeamFocus.TeamFocusisplacementinoneteacher’sclassroomfortheday.StudentsearntheirwayoutofTeamFocuswhentheycanbesafeandwhentheirteachershavedetermineditisineveryone’sbestinterest.InappropriateBehaviorRequiringTeacherInterventionStudentsareexpectedtofollowschoolandclassprocedureswhileinattendanceatLewis&ClarkMiddleSchool.Attimes,certainstudentsmayhavedifficultyfollowingtheseproceduresandateacherwillberequiredtointervene.Teachersmayimposeconsequencesforviolatingtheseproceduresormoresevereviolationmaybereferredtothestudent'sadministrator.Examplesofinappropriatebehaviorsandpossibleteacherinterventionsandconsequencesfollow:InappropriateBehaviors:• Publicdisplaysofaffection.• Failuretopayattentionortoparticipateappropriatelyinclass.• Failuretobringnecessarymaterialstoclass.• Interruptingandinterferingwiththeworkofothers.• Failuretodoclasswork,assignments,etc.• Makingrudeordisrespectfulcommentstootherstudents.• Misusinglockersorlockerprivileges.• Failuretoreturnforms,notestoparentsorteachers,etc.• Uncooperativebehaviortowardsteachers.• Spreadinghurtfulrumors.• Engaginginanyotherdisruptivebehaviorthatisrelativelyminorinnature.• Recordingphysicalconfrontationswithcellphones

InappropriateBehaviorRequiringAdministratorInterventionStudentswhocontinuallydisregardexpectationscauseaseriousdisruptiontotheschoolclimate.AdministratorswillusethefollowingCodeofConductasaguidewhendealingwithinappropriatebehavior.Administratorsmayvaryfromthelistedconsequencesbasedoneachindividualsituation.Actionsthatarenotspecificallycoveredinthishandbook,butwhicharedisruptive,inappropriate,oroffensiveshallresultindisciplinaryaction.CodeofConductStudentDiscipline(JCPSBoardPolicyJG–Subjecttochangeinboardpolicyatafuturedate)ItisessentialthatthedistrictmaintainaclassroomenvironmentthatallowsTeacherstocommunicateeffectivelywithallstudentsintheclassandallowsallstudentsintheclasstolearn.Toassistdistrictstaffinmaintainingthenecessaryclassroomenvironment,theBoardofEducationhascreatedadisciplinecodethataddressestheconsequences,includingsuspensionorexpulsion,forstudentswhoseconductisprejudicialtogoodorderanddisciplineintheschoolsorimpairsthemoraleorgoodconductofotherstudents.TheBoardauthorizestheimmediateremovalofastudentuponafindingbyaprincipalorsuperintendentthatthestudentposesathreatofharmtoselforothers,asevidencedbythepriorconductofsuchstudent.Anysuchremovalwillbesubjecttotheappropriatedueprocessproceduresandinaccordancewithlaw.Thesepolicies,regulationsandprocedureswillapplytoallstudentsinattendanceindistrictinstructionalandsupportprogramsaswellasatschool-sponsoredactivities.Alldistrictstaffarerequiredtoenforcethesepolicies,regulationsandproceduresinamannerthatisfairanddevelopmentallyappropriateandthatconsidersthestudentandtheindividualcircumstancesinvolved.Off-campusmisconductandspeechthatsubstantiallyandmateriallydisruptstheeducationalclimatewillalsobesubjecttothesepolicies,regulationsandprocedures.Studentswhohavebeencharged,convictedorpledguiltyinacourtofgeneraljurisdictionforcommissionofafelonymaybesuspendedinaccordancewithlaw.Buildingprincipalsareresponsibleforthedevelopmentofadditionalregulationsandproceduresregardingstudentconductneededtomaintainproperbehaviorinschoolsundertheirsupervision.Teachershavetheauthorityandresponsibilitytomakeandenforcenecessaryrulesforinternalgovernanceintheclassroom,subjecttoreviewbythebuildingprincipal.TheBoardexpectseachteachertomaintainasatisfactorystandardofconductintheclassroom.Allemployeesofthedistrictshallannuallyreceiveinstructionrelatedtothespecificcontentsofthedistrict'sdisciplinepolicyandanyinterpretationsnecessarytoimplementtheprovisionsofthepolicyinthecourseoftheirdutiesincluding,butnotlimitedto,approvedmethodsofdealingwithactsofschoolviolence,discipliningstudentswithdisabilitiesandinstructioninthenecessityandrequirementsforconfidentiality.

AnytimeastudentisassignedtoISS,thestudentwillNOTbeallowedtoparticipateinafter-schoolactivitiesandathletics.Ifthisoccurs,theprohibitionfromactivities,includingathletics,willbeginatthetimeoftheISSassignmentandcontinueuntilthestudenthasfollowedhis/herregularscheduleforonefullday. EnsuringPositiveLearningandWorkingenvironmentJeffersonCityPublicSchoolsandLewis&ClarkMiddleSchoolstrivetomaintainapositiveworkingandlearningenvironmentforallstudentsandstaff.Overthecourseofaschoolyearwerecognizethattherewillundoubtedlybesituationsofconcern/complaintstostudents,parents,staffandthepublic.Suchconcerns/complaintsarebestresolvedbyaddressingthematthelevelwheretheconcernsoriginatethroughcommunicationwithappropriatestaffmembers.Students,ParentsandPublicIfastudentand/orparenthaveaconcern/complaintwithanissuerelatedtoaspecificclass,programorstaffmember,

stress-inducingactivities.Hazingmayalsoinclude,butisnotlimitedto:actsofphysicalbrutality;whipping;beating;branding;exposingtotheelements;forcedconsumptionofanyfood,liquor,drugorothersubstance;forcinginhalationoringestionoftobaccoproducts;oranyotherforcedphysicalactivitythatcouldadverselyaffectthephysicalhealthorsafetyofanindividual.Hazingmayoccurevenwhenallstudentsinvolvedarewillingparticipants.Hazingdoesnotoccurwhenastudentisrequiredtoauditionortryoutforanorganizationwhenthecriteriaarereasonable,approvedbythedistrictandlegitimatelyrelatedtothepurposeoftheorganization.Bullying–Isdefinedbystatelawasintimidation,unwantedaggressivebehavior,orharassmentthatisrepetitiveorissubstantiallylikelytoberepeatedandcausesareasonablestudenttofearforhisorherphysicalsafetyorproperty;substantiallyinterfereswiththeeducationalperformance,opportunities,orbenefitsofanystudentwithoutexception;orsubstantiallydisruptstheorderlyoperationoftheschool.Bullyingmayconsistofphysicalactions,includinggestures,ororal,cyberbullying,electronicorwrittencommunication,andanythreatofretaliationforreportingofsuchacts.Bullyingofstudentsisprohibitedonschoolproperty,atanyschoolfunctionoronaschoolbus.‘Cyberbullying’meansbullyingasdefinedinthissubsectionthroughthetransmissionofancommunicationincluding,butnotlimitedto,amessage,text,sound,orimagebymeansofanelectronicdeviceincluding,butnotlimitedto,atelephone,wirelesstelephone,orotherwirelesscommunicationdevice,computer,orpager.Inordertoensureahealthyandsafelearningenvironmentforall,studentsareaskedtoreportinstancesofbullyingtoateacheroranadministratorimmediately.Instancesofbullyingmustbereportedbydistrictemployeesimmediately,andinnoeventlaterthantwo(2)schooldaysfollowingreceiptofareportorpersonalobservationbytheemployee.Thereportmustbemadetothebuildingprincipalofhis/herdesignee.Theprincipalshallensurethataninvestigationcommenceswithintwo(2)schooldaysofreceiptofthereportandwillconcludewithinten(10)daysunlessthetimeperiodisextendedforgoodcause.TheBoardprohibitsretaliatoryactionsincluding,butnotlimitedto,actsofintimidation,threats,coercionordiscriminationagainstthosewhomakecomplaintspursuanttothispolicy;whoreportprohibitedbullyingorhazing;andwhoparticipateinaninvestigation,formalproceedingorinformalresolution.PROHIBITIONAGAINSTILLEGALDISCRIMINATIONANDHARASSMENTGeneralRuleTheJeffersonCitySchoolDistrictBoardofEducationiscommittedtomaintainingaworkplaceandeducationalenvironmentthatisfreefromdiscriminationandharassmentinadmissionoraccessto,ortreatmentoremploymentin,itsprograms,services,activitiesandfacilities.Inaccordancewithlawandthispolicy,thedistrictstrictlyprohibitsdiscriminationandharassmentagainstemployees,studentsorothersonthebasisofrace,color,religion,sex,sexualorientationorperceivedsexualorientation,nationalorigin,ancestry,disability,age,geneticinformationoranyothercharacteristicprotectedbylaw.TheJeffersonCitySchoolDistrictisanequalopportunityemployer.TheBoardalsoprohibits:1.Retaliatoryactionsincluding,butnotlimitedto,actsofintimidation,threats,coercionordiscriminationagainstthosewho:

Allemployees,studentsandvisitorsmustimmediatelyreporttothedistrictforinvestigationanyincidentorbehaviorthatcouldconstitutediscrimination,harassmentorretaliationinaccordancewiththispolicy.Ifdiscrimination,harassmentorretaliationthatoccursoffdistrictpropertyandthatisunrelatedtothedistrict'sactivitiesnegativelyimpactstheschoolenvironment,thedistrictwillinvestigateandaddressthebehaviorinaccordancewiththispolicy,asallowedbylaw.AdditionalProhibitedBehaviorBehaviorthatisnotunlawfulordoesnotrisetothelevelofillegaldiscrimination,harassmentorretaliationmightstillbeunacceptablefortheworkplaceortheeducationalenvironment.Demeaningorotherwiseharmfulactionsareprohibited,particularlyifdirectedatpersonalcharacteristicsincluding,butnotlimitedto,socioeconomiclevel,sexualorientationorperceivedsexualorientation.BoyScoutsofAmericaEqualAccessActAsrequiredbylaw,thedistrictwillprovideequalaccesstodistrictfacilitiesandrelatedbenefitsandservicesandwillnotdiscriminateagainstanygroupofficiallyaffiliatedwiththeBoyScoutsofAmerica,theGirlScoutsoftheUnitedStatesofAmericaoranyotheryouthgroupdesignatedinapplicablefederallaw.SchoolNutritionProgramsNopersonshall,onthebasisofrace,color,nationalorigin,sex,ageordisability,beexcludedfromparticipationin,bedeniedbenefitsof,orotherwisebesubjecttodiscriminationunderaschoolnutritionprogramforwhichthedistrictreceivesfederalfinancialassistancefromtheU.S.DepartmentofAgriculture(USDA)FoodandNutritionService.SchoolnutritionprogramsincludetheNationalSchoolLunchProgram,theSpecialMilkProgram,theSchoolBreakfastProgramandtheSummerFoodServiceProgram.InterimMeasuresWhenareportismadeorthedistrictotherwiselearnsofpotentialdiscrimination,harassmentorretaliation,thedistrictwilltakeimmediateactiontoprotecttheallegedvictim,includingimplementinginterimmeasures.Forexample,thedistrictmayalteraclassseatingarrangement,provideadditionalsupervisionforastudentorsuspendanemployeependinganinvestigation.Thedistrictwilltakeimmediatestepstopreventretaliationagainsttheallegedvictim,anypersonassociatedwiththeallegedvictim,oranywitnessesorparticipantsintheinvestigation.Thesestepsmayinclude,butarenotlimitedto,notifyingstudents,employeesandothersthattheyareprotectedfromretaliation,ensuringthattheyknowhowtoreportfuturecomplaints,andinitiatingfollow-upcontactwiththecomplainanttodetermineifanyadditionalactsofdiscrimination,harassmentorretaliationhaveoccurred.ConsequencesandRemediesIfthedistrictdeterminesthatdiscrimination,harassmentorretaliationhaveoccurred,thedistrictwilltakeprompt,effectiveandappropriateactiontoaddressthebehavior,preventitsrecurrenceandremedyitseffects.Employeeswhoviolatethispolicywillbedisciplined,uptoandincludingemploymenttermination.Studentswhoviolatethispolicywillbedisciplined,whichmayincludesuspensionorexpulsion.Patrons,contractors,visitorsorotherswhoviolatethispolicymaybeprohibitedfromschoolgroundsorotherwiserestrictedwhileonschoolgrounds.Thesuperintendentordesigneewillcontactlawenforcementorseekacourtordertoenforcethispolicywhennecessaryorwhenactionsmayconstitutecriminalbehavior.Students,employeesandotherswillnotbedisciplinedforspeechincircumstanceswhereitisprotectedbylaw.Inaccordancewithlawanddistrictpolicy,anypersonsuspectedofabusingorneglectingachildwillbereportedtotheChildren’sDivision(CD)oftheDepartmentofSocialServices.Remediesprovidedbythedistrictwillattempttominimizetheburdenonthevictim.Suchremediesmayinclude,butarenotlimitedto:providingadditionalresourcessuchascounseling,providingaccesstocommunityservices,assistingthevictiminfilingcriminalchargeswhenapplicable,movingtheperpetratortoadifferentclassorschool,providinganescortbetweenclasses,orallowingthevictimtoretakeorwithdrawfromaclass.Thedistrictmayprovideadditionaltrainingtostudentsandemployees,makeperiodicassessmentstomakesurebehaviorcomplieswithdistrictpolicy,orperformaclimatechecktoassesstheenvironmentinthedistrict.DefinitionsComplianceOfficer–Theindividualresponsibleforimplementingthispolicy,includingtheactingcomplianceofficerwhenheorsheisperformingdutiesofthecomplianceofficer.

1. Asallgrievanceswillbeinvestigatedbyanimpartialinvestigator,ifapersondesignatedtohearagrievanceorappealisthesubjectofthegrievance,thecomplianceofficermaydesignateanalternativepersontohearthegrievance,orthenexthigheststepinthegrievanceprocesswillbeused.Forexample,ifthegrievanceinvolvesthesuperintendent,thecomplianceofficermaydesignatesomeoneoutsidethedistricttohearthegrievanceinlieuofthesuperintendent,orthegrievancemaybehearddirectlybytheBoard.
2. Anextensionoftheinvestigationandreportingdeadlinesmaybewarrantedifextenuatingcircumstancesexistasdeterminedbythedistrict'scomplianceofficer.Thepersonfilingthecomplaintwillbenotifiedwhendeadlinesareextended.Ifmorethantwicetheallottedtimehasexpiredwithoutaresponse,theappealmaybetakentothenextlevel.
3. Failureofthepersonfilingthegrievancetoappealwithinthetimelinesgivenwillbeconsideredacceptanceofthefindingsandremedialactiontaken.
4. Thedistrictwillinvestigateallgrievances,evenifanoutsideenforcingagencysuchastheOfficeforCivilRights,lawenforcementortheCDisalsoinvestigatingacomplaintarisingfromthesamecircumstances.
5. ThedistrictwillonlyshareinformationregardinganindividuallyidentifiablestudentoremployeewiththepersonfilingthegrievanceorotherpersonsifallowedbylawandinaccordancewithBoardpolicy.

TrainingThedistrictwillprovidetrainingtoemployeesonidentifyingandreportingactsthatmayconstitutediscrimination,harassmentorretaliation.Thedistrictwillinstructemployeestomakeallcomplaintstothedistrict'scomplianceofficeroractingcomplianceofficerandwillprovidecurrentcontactinformationforthesepersons.Thedistrictwillinformemployeesoftheconsequencesofviolatingthispolicyandtheremediesthedistrictmayusetorectifypolicyviolations.Allemployeeswillhaveaccesstothedistrict'scurrentpolicy,requirednoticesandcomplaintforms.Thedistrictwillprovideadditionaltrainingtoanypersonresponsibleforinvestigatingpotentialdiscrimination,harassmentorretaliation.Thedistrictwillprovideinformationtoparents/guardiansandstudentsregardingthispolicyandwillprovideage-appropriateinstructiontostudents.*******IntheeventofadiscrepancybetweenanadministrativeprocedureandaBoardpolicy,theBoardpolicywilltakeprecedenceSUICIDEAWARENESSANDPREVENTION
SuicideisaleadingcauseofdeathamongyouthsinMissouriandisapublichealthconcernimpactingallMissouricitizens.TheJeffersonCitySchoolDistrictiscommittedtomaintainingasafeenvironmenttoprotectthehealth,safetyandwelfareofstudents.ResponsePlanDistrictemployeeswillrespondimmediatelyinsituationswheretheyhaveareasonablebeliefthatastudentmaybeatriskofsuicideormaybehavingasuicidecrisis.StudentsWhoMayBeatRiskofSuicideAnydistrictemployee,whohasareasonablebeliefthatastudentmaybeatriskofsuicide,eventhoughthestudentisnothavingasuicidecrisisasdefinedinthispolicy,willtakethefollowingsteps:
1. Makeeveryefforttolocatethestudentimmediately,anddonotleavethestudentalone.2. Notify a CRT member or the building administrator or designee. If the employee cannot reach the building
administrator,designeeoranyoftheCRTmembers, theemployeewillcontactthestudent'sparent/guardian. Ifthe parent/guardian is also unavailable, or at the parent's/guardian's request, the employee will contactemergencyservices.
WhenaCRTmemberorthebuildingadministratorordesigneereceivesnotificationthatastudentmaybeatriskofsuicide,heorshewilltakethefollowingsteps:
1. If the student cannot be located or leaves after being located, a CRTmember or the building administrator ordesigneewillcontacttheparent/guardiantoexplainthedistrict'sconcern.
2. If the studenthasbeen located, aCRTmemberor thebuilding administratoror designeewill use anevidence-based/informed tool to determine whether the student is at risk of suicide and the appropriate response.Regardlessofthedetermination,thebuildingadministratorordesigneewillcontactthestudent'sparent/guardiantodiscusstheconcern.
3. Ifitisdeterminedthatthestudentmaybeatriskofsuicide,aschoolcounselorandaCRTmemberwillmeetwiththe studentandhisorherparents/guardians todiscuss supportand safety systems,available resources, copingskillsandcollaborativewaystosupportthestudent.
StudentsWhoMayBeHavingaSuicideCrisisIfanemployeereasonablybelievesthatastudentishavingasuicidecrisis,theemployeewilltakethefollowingsteps:
1. Makeeveryefforttolocatethestudentimmediately,anddonotleavethestudentalone.2. Immediately report the situation to a CRTmember or the building administrator or designee. If the employee
cannot reach the building administrator, designee or any of the CRT members, the employee will notify the

student'sparent/guardianandcontactemergencyservices.Theemployeemayalsocontact theNationalSuicidePrevention Lifeline (800-273-8255) for assistance. As soon as practical, the employee will notify the buildingadministratorordesignee.
WhenaCRTmemberorthebuildingadministratorordesigneereceivesnotificationthatastudentisbelievedtobehavingasuicidecrisis,heorshewilltakethefollowingsteps:
1. If the student cannot be locatedor leaves after being located, a CRTmember or the building administrator ordesigneewillcontacttheparent/guardiantoexplainthedistrict'sconcern.
2. Ifthestudenthasbeenlocated,theCRTmemberorthebuildingadministratorordesigneewill,basedonhisorher training and an assessment of the student, determine the appropriate action, including whether to callemergencyservices,andimplementtheappropriateresponse.
3. At an appropriate time after the crisis has passed, a school counselor and a CRTmember will meet with thestudentandhisorherparents/guardianstodiscusssupportandsafetysystems,availableresources,copingskillsandcollaborativewaystosupportthestudent.
ConfidentialityEmployeesarerequiredtosharewiththeCRTandadministratorsortheirdesigneesanyinformationthatmayberelevantindeterminingwhetherastudentisatriskofsuicide,ishavingasuicidecrisisorisotherwiseatriskofharm.Employeesareprohibited frompromising students that information shared by the studentwill be kept secretwhen the information isrelevanttothestudent'ssafetyorthesafetyofanotherperson.COMMUNICABLEDISEASES
TheJeffersonCitySchoolDistrictSchoolBoardrecognizesitsresponsibilitytoprotectthehealthofstudentsandemployeesfromtherisksposedbycommunicablediseases.TheBoardalsohasaresponsibilitytoprotectindividualprivacy,educateallstudentsregardlessofmedicalconditionandtreatstudentsandemployeesinanondiscriminatorymanner.ImmunizationInaccordancewithlaw,studentscannotattendschoolwithoutprovidingsatisfactoryevidenceofimmunization,unlesstheyareexemptedfromimmunization.UniversalPrecautionsThedistrictrequiresallstafftoroutinelyemployuniversalprecautionstopreventexposuretodisease-causingorganisms.Thedistrictwillprovidethenecessaryequipmentandsuppliestoimplementuniversalprecautions.CategoriesofPotentialRiskStudentsoremployeeswithcommunicablediseasesthatposeariskoftransmissioninschooloratschoolactivities(suchas,butnotlimitedto,chickenpox,influenzaandconjunctivitis)willbemanagedasrequiredbylawandinaccordancewithguidelinesprovidedbytheDepartmentofHealthandSeniorServices(DHSS)andlocalcountyorcityhealthdepartments.Suchmanagementmayinclude,butisnotlimitedto,exclusionfromschoolorreassignmentasneededforthehealthandsafetyofstudentsandstaff.Studentsoremployeesinfectedwithchroniccommunicablediseasesthatdonotposeariskoftransmissioninschooloratschoolactivities(suchas,butnotlimitedto,hepatitisBvirusorHIV)shallbeallowedtoattendschoolorcontinuetoworkwithoutanyrestrictionsbasedsolelyontheinfection.Thedistrictwillnotrequireanymedicalevaluationsortestsforsuchdiseases.ExceptionalSituationsTherearecertainspecifictypesofconditions,suchasfrequentbleedingepisodesoruncoverable,oozing,skinlesionsthatcould potentially be associated with transmission of both bloodborne and non-bloodborne pathogens. In the case ofstudents,certaintypesofbehaviors,suchasbitingorscratching,mayalsobeassociatedwithtransmissionofpathogens.

Studentswhoexhibitsuchbehaviorsorconditionsmaybeeducatedinanalternativeeducationalsettingor,ifappropriate,disciplined inaccordancewith thedisciplinecode. EarthquakesinMissouriThehighestearthquakerisk intheUnitedStatesoutsidetheWestCoast is intheNewMadridSeismicZone,centeredinsoutheastMissouri’s Bootheel.Damaging earthquakes arenot as frequent as in California, butwhen theydooccur, thedestructioncoversmorethan20timestheareaduetothenatureofgeologicmaterialsintheregion.Amajorearthquakecouldmeancatastrophicdamage in theSt. Louis and southeast regionsof the state, and significantdamage throughoutMissouri.TheNewMadridSeismicZoneaveragesmorethan200earthquakesperyear.Mostcan’tbefelt,butafewcancausemeasurabledamage.

Experts say there’s a25 to 40 percent chance for amajor earthquake in a fifty yearperiod. The result couldbemajordamagefromSt.LouistoMemphis.The lastmajorearthquakein the New Madrid Seismic Zone was centered in southeastMissouri, near the town of Charleston, in 1895, so we’reoverdueforamajorearthquake.The Great New Madrid Earthquakes of 1811-12 were thelargest in U.S. history west of the Rocky Mountains.
