Revival; noun1 an improvement in the condition, strength, or fortunes of someone or something:a revival in the fortunes of the party economic revival2 an instance of something becoming popular, active, or important again restoration to life or consciousness.

Corruption - Divorce - Separation - Crime

Depression - Violence - Sexual OffencesPaedophilia - Racism - Segregation - Loneliness

Murder - Bullying - HomelessnessDrug related issues - Prostitution - Road Rage

Debt - Poverty - Hunger - Domestic AbuseNeglect

The grey words are just some of the examples plaguing our society today, the ones in red are how things could be in our neighbourhood, if transformation was called upon.

Kindness - No Crime - Family units - LoveHappiness - Safety - Affordable Housing

Companionship - Union - Decency - HonestyWholesomeness - Caring - Equality - Prosperity

Members of The Cornerstone saw a short clip Corruption to Revival: A Town’s Radical Change, ‘Hope for America’ available on You Tube. The clip shows residents of Manchester, Kentucky USA, taking the decision that they needed to reclaim and transform their town in 2004. Previously known as the painkiller capital it is now transformed to the City of Hope “Get saved or get busted” was the notice given to drug dealers by the townspeople.

•••

It was the union of various denominational churches deciding they needed to work together for the higher good of their town. The combination of marching and praying, having faith that God would listen and transform the town is all that was required. They wanted an end to drug dealers ruling their town, political corruption, premature deaths. This is modern day proof that revival came and worked. The town really transformed not just the people but the land water and wildlife.

For those of you who are sceptical and can’t see such changes happening on our doorstep, then do take some time out to watch a few of the clips.

Why shouldn’t God do the same here if people gather together and pray?

If you have an area of your life which needs help, members of the Cornerstone are happy to pray for healing those of any faith or no faith. You can contact The Cornerstone with your prayer request at 149 Canterbury Road Leyton London E10 6EH

How do we measure success and failure? Does this depend on the size of your bank balance, pay cheque, car, or house? Or how much love and respect you have from your family and friends, what you may have achieved for others directly or indirectly, or made a difference for this and the next generation.Failure should never be seen as the end, it can be a time for one to take stock of the situation and find the breakthrough required to make it a success. Have fun absorbing some of the quotes; do write in if you have any thoughts especially if something has really helped you kick start a shelved project. Malvalio: In my stars I am above thee; but be not afraid of greatness: some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon ‘em. From Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, 1602: “The great dividing line between success and failure can be expressed in five words: “I did not have time.” Franklin Field“The difference between failure and success is doing a thing nearly right and doing a thing exactly right.” Edward SimmonsDesire is the key to motivation, but it’s the determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal - a commitment to excellence - that will enable you to attain the success you seek.” Mario Andretti - race car driver

“No one ever attains very eminent success by simply doing what is required of him; it is the amount and excellence of what is over and above the required that determines the greatness of ultimate distinction.” Charles Kendall Adams

“The secret of success in life is for a man to be ready for his opportunity when it comes.” Benjamin Disraeli

The most practical, beautiful, workable philosophy in the world won’t work - if you won’t.

“I believe the greater the handicap, the greater the triumph.” John H. Johnson

Unless you change how you are, you will always have what you’ve got.“A stumble may prevent a fall.” English Proverb

“God gives every bird a worm, but he does not throw it into the nest.” Swedish Proverb“Few men have the natural strength to honour a friend’s success without envy.” AeschylusYesterday’s failures are today’s seeds that must be diligently planted to be able to abundantly harvest Tomorrow’s success. “Anonymous

“You cannot sit on the road to success for if you do, you will get run over. “Anonymous“When you have much success, two things happen. The first is that we begin to take success for granted. The second is that we forget how we got here? Namely, by exceptionally hard work and in spite of intense competition.” Jack Mack Carter

There are some things you don’t have to know how it works. The main thing is that it works. While some people are studying the roots, others are picking the fruit. It just depends which end of this you want to get in on.Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful. “Herman Cain

Is success and failure a double edged sword?

O-Regen another “charitable” organisation has gone into administration, why is this happening again in our borough? The residents of WF have seen several charitable, social housing, and educational organisations, (just to name a few) hired by the local authority come into hot water over certain practices, or lack of practice as it may be in some cases. But the bad services and lack of support just keep on increasing. The local authority doesn’t appear to be doing enough to deter such establishments from such behaviour, which result in residents being short changed. Whether this is due to loss of direct or indirect finances, amenities or services residents don’t actually get real clarity about the incident, and when a matter is brought to light the public is fobbed of with comments such as “commercial confidentiality” or “commercially sensitive information not available to the public”. This is the equivalent of a “super injunction” and considering the fact we are living in a democratic Country, such excuses from the local authority should not be permissible. What exactly makes such information sensitive is it the fact the general public would probably be outraged at what is uncovered and demand a fine analysis, along with the sacking of individuals who are responsible for the failures? This is the most logic explanation, just like when MP’s expenses became public knowledge, the fury it caused across the nation was amazing, people actually started to examine how politicians get paid and what they claim for more stringently, and this has led to radical changes to the expenses claiming procedure, and possible criminal charges being made against some politicians. A publicly funded body should be held accountable for every penny it has spent,

irrespective of having made a profit, loss or dealing with companies who don’t deliver, such companies, and individuals should be named and shamed by the council. This should be in conjunction with an exclusion from working with public sector bodies, at least until losses have been recouped in full.

We do need clarity and real answers; someone is getting paid to keep an eye on such matters after all, or are they?

What can be done?Just the powerful complaining I’m afraid if you see an organisation set up to do something and find out they are not doing as they should be then approach them first and if that doesn’t work contact the organisation who may be funding them. This is so important at the moment especially when genuine charitable/non-profit organisations are having their funding reduced or taken away, and these are organisations that have been around for many years with a proven record of supplying a service. If you need a short cut to complaining, or are in the mood to name and shame then just contact Leyton Life, and as always you can stay anonymous if you prefer [email protected] postal details p2After all we deserve better, because we are so worth it!

Leyton Life was one of the luckier suppliers who did get paid for the advertising by O-Regen, are you a supplier who did not get paid by either O-Regen or any other local company do report such incidents it is the only way forward for change.

Happy Celebrations1st-30th Aug One of the most sacred Islamic occasions, Ramadan is observed during the ninth and holiest Islamic month of the same name, a time when the great Prophet Muhammad was said to have received the knowledge of Quran. This hallowed event is marked with fasting, eating small meals in groups, prayers, penitence, self-denial and good deeds. 13th AugRaksha Bandhan or Rakhi, as called in India, falls on the full moon of late August every year in which a sister ties a Rakhi, a colourfully decorated string, around the right hand wrist of her brother(s). The Rakhi may be a decorative string in the form of a

designer dial fitted with threads, a colourful bracelet, or a simple bright colour thread. But the spirit they reflect remains the same with its all variety and forms.

31st Aug‘Eid ul-Fitr’ marks the end of the month of Ramadan. ‘Fitr’ means to break and it signifies the breaking of the fasting period and of all evil habits. It is a show of joy at attaining spiritual prosperity after a month of fasting. The holy month of Ramadan which culminates into the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr unites all Muslims in fasting, feasting, worship and prayer. It is a time for contemplation, spirituality, peace and brotherhood. End of Aughttp://www.theholidayspot.com/eid_ul_fitr/
