YOUTH SCOOPS THE POOL AT 2018 ENGINEERING AWARDS
A new generation of young engineers dominated at last month’s NSW Engineering Excellence Awards scooping all the major individual honours.
Blayney Shire Council’s Operations Manager Nathan Skelly was named Public Works Leader of the Year while Thomas Franzen from Eurobodalla Shire Council and Genium Civil Engineering’s Hamish Scroope were jointly awarded the David Abbott Award, whichrecognises young engineers’ contribution to public works excellence.
The awards were presented at the IPWEA (NSW) State Conference held in the Hunter Valley on November 8.
More than 100 nominations were received and over 400 guests attended a gala dinner to recognise the individual winners – along with 15 winners of project-focussed awards.Judges John O’Connor and Greg Moran were responsible for inspecting regional submissions while Geoff Fowler and Leon Patterson inspected all metropolitan submissions. They described the quality of submissions as impressively high and noted the wide range of projects across the public works spectrum that were covered.
The Engineering Excellence Awards showcases infrastructure achievements across NSW, inspiring us all with what is possible when innovative thinking and outstanding commitment are combined with technical expertise and hard work. The Gala Dinner was a big success and ended with a performance by Australian band Dragon.
