But don’t forget that the university experience in the United S tates is about more than just studying. By becoming involved in student clubs and organizations you will have the chance to meet new people and engage with them on a personal basis. !oming together through a common interest or activity is a wonderful way to ma"e meaningful cross#cultural friendships that can last a lifetime. $hat "inds of activities will % &nd on my campus' (o matter the size of the university you attend you will &nd many student clubs and organizations in which to participate. Some of these clubs will be focused around academic departments li"e biology history or business. )thers may focus on social issues li"e the environment activities li"e drawing or dancing intramural sports l i"e yoga or water polo journalism student government or political activism. Still others may focus on providing a friendly place for groups of students with shared bac"grounds or interests li"e an international student club to meet and plan activities. Because most clubs are open to all students it can be a great way to explore your interests outside of the classroo m. *or example if you are studying biology but also love to dance you could join a swing dance or salsa club. +ow do % get involved' , o become involved in student c lubs and activities you need to t a"e initiative t o join. Usually the university o-ce in charge of student clubs will host a large campus activities fair at the beginning of the academic year. ach club will have a table or booth. /ou should tal" to the person at the table usually a student to &nd out more about what the mission of their group is and what activities they will host throughout the year. 0ut your name on their sign#up sheet so they will include you in any announcements. %f you don’t
