Celebrating Success at our Presentation
Assemblies
Today parents and carers joined us for the third of our annual
Presentation Assemblies. Years 1 and 2 students entertained us with
their beautiful singing and dancing to ‘We’re All Going on a Summer
Holiday’ and ‘High Hopes’. Our K- 2 choir put us in a festive mood
with ‘Aussie, Aussie Christmas’. Tomorrow we celebrate Kindergarten
students’ first year of school and I can’t wait to hear their grade item.

Farewells for 2019
At the end of this year we farewell several valued staff members:
Miss Emily Morrow has been appointed as Assistant Principal to Kentlyn PS (near
Campbelltown)
Miss Hannah Ginges has been appointed as a permanent teacher to Mosman Public School
Mr Ken Nicol will be moving to Smalls Rd Public School in a part-time position as he transitions
into retirement
Mrs Alix Rivera commences her Maternity Leave and will not return in 2020
Mrs Juliette Mc-Duie Ra will be on leave for 2020
We wish them all the best in their new ventures and thank them most sincerely for their contributions to
our school over many years.
Thank you to the parents and carers who will be leaving us at the end of the year and for your help and
support over the years. Many of you have taken on roles in the P&C, Music programs, Canteen, Chess
and other committees – we appreciate all you have done!
Classes 2020
As the year is drawing to a close, we are currently planning for next year. At this stage, our numbers are
changing daily and we have around 870 students enrolled for 2020 which would require us to form 34
classes. These classes may include composite classes, job share classes and single grade classes.
Class structure is determined by the staffing formula provided by the Department of Education. The
placing of children into new classes is a complex and time-consuming process as each year we strive to
ensure that we have well-balanced classes. Classes at Lindfield PS are not graded academically except
for the Stage 3 Extension class. When forming balanced classes, many factors are taken into
consideration: gender; academic ability; special needs such as learning support, English as an additional
language or dialect, behavioural and social needs; medical needs and learning behaviours. Teachers
also request students to identify friendships in an attempt to place each child with a nominated friend in
their class. We do not take parent requests for teachers or for students to be placed together. Please
respect the teachers’ professionalism as they place students in a class that will best meet their
educational needs. Speak to your child’s class teacher or contact me directly should you have any
educational concerns regarding your child’s placement.
Beginning of the Year Procedures for 2020
When students return next year, they will be placed in temporary or holding classes until we can
ascertain our final numbers as numbers change over the holiday break. Once this is done, we can
finalise the class structures and move into permanent classes. We expect this process to take only a few
days. During this time, all children will be actively involved in lessons around road safety, friendships and
anti-bullying as well as returning to the study of English, Maths, Science, PD/H/PE and Creative Arts.
This year, teachers have already commenced planning for 2020. We look forward to seeing students
return on Wednesday 29 January 2020.

Year 1 and 2 Swimming Carnival Success
The Year 1 and 2 Swimming Carnivals were a great success last week with all students getting in the
water and trying their very best. We were very impressed with the house cheers, committed students
and the team atmosphere on the day. Thank you to all the wonderful parents who helped us with the day
and those who supported from the side lines. Thank you to our teachers who coordinated and helped
with the event, Larissa and Oleg for their ongoing support with all things to do with swimming and a very
special thank you to Mrs Pentelow, Mrs Consalvi and Mrs Ranasinghe, Mr Smith, Mrs Shield and Mrs
Hallinan for their leadership of the carnivals.
End of Year Fun Days!
K-2 Festivity Day
On Monday students in Years K – 2 will be treated to a performance of 'Trace of Magic'. They will then
complete some Christmas craft in their classrooms. Thank you to Miss Buckle, Mrs Brown and Mrs
Capper for organising the performance. Children are invited to wear Christmas colours or a touch of
Christmas e.g. santa hat or reindeer ears and tinsel.
Stage 2 - Moving Bodies
Our Picnic Day for 2019 will be held at the
Moving Bodies Centre in Mt Kuring-gai on Friday.
Students in Stage 2 will be participating in a fun
day of physical activities such as a climbing wall,
Ninja course, athletics and gymnastics. Whilst at
the centre, students will participate in supervised
activities and follow all safety instructions
provided by the Moving Bodies staff.
Please be reminded that students will be required to wear their sports uniforms, school hats, sunscreen
and comfortable shoes. Please ensure students bring a drink bottle, recess and lunch. Students should
pack these items in a school backpack or smaller bag. The permission note can be found under the ‘Notes’
tab on the school website.
Year 5 - Surf Education
Year 5 will once again complete a surf
education course on Friday 13 December
at Freshwater Beach, Freshwater.
Students should wear appropriate mufti
clothing, with covered shoes to be worn to
and from Freshwater Beach. Thongs can
be worn on the sand and rash vests will be
provided. Sunscreen should be applied
before coming to school and will be reapplied throughout the day. No singlet tops or sleeveless tops should
be worn for sun safety reasons.
The purpose of the excursion is to develop the students’ surf safety and awareness. Activities will include
a surf safety talk, board and body-board paddling, beach volleyball, tube rescue relays, flag relays, wade
and bucket races and beach soccer. All activities will be supervised by qualified Surf Smart educators and
class teachers.
Farewell Year 6 2019
It is with a heavy heart that we farewell Year 6 2019! They

your future and hope that ‘you’ll remember Lindfield years’
with fondness.
On Friday, Year 6 have their annual fun day and Year 6

are being made at present and we are sure that Year 6 will
enjoy their time on Friday. Thank you to Su Lin Ho and her
team of parents for organising the lunch.
As per tradition at Lindfield Public School, the Year 6 Formal
Graduation and Year 6 Parents’ Cocktail Party will take place
next Tuesday night 17 December from 5:45pm. It will be a
night of celebration of their time at school and the many
wonderful experiences and friendships they have gained.

O’Keefe and the team of Year 5 parents for organising the night. A special thank you to Mr and Mrs Fielden

Work on Display
Anaphylaxis at Lindfield Public School At Lindfield Public School in 2019, we have a small number of children who could have a potentially life
threatening allergic reaction. They are found across our school from Kindergarten to Year 6.
How can parents help these children?
Choose alternative sandwich spreads to peanut butter and Nutella. Inform your child that
these foods can trigger an anaphylactic reaction.
Reinforce the school’s NO FOOD SHARING message.
Please note, no students are allowed to bring
glass bottles to school for safety reason

Strings
Christmas Mini-Concert Celebration
It was wonderful seeing all the ensembles share the stage at the Christmas Concert on Sunday afternoon.
Once again, we would like to extend our THANKS to many of the local Lindfield shops for being so
generous and willing to support the Strings Raffle this year. The next time you dine or shop, please consider
supporting these amazing Lindfield businesses!
Thank you for a wonderful year
Congratulations on another fantastic year of Strings! All children should have received their participation
patches for 2019. They all worked hard for these patches throughout the year and we are proud of the
amazing progress they have all made.
Thanks again to the conductors, Adrian and Mark, for the year that has been. To our ensemble reps –
Janice, Kajsa, Janet, Kieu – liaising on behalf of their ensemble group and for the numerous emails they
have had to field and send. Our thanks to Strings Committee members – Daphne, Margaret and Fiona, to
LPS for their support of this program ….and, of course, to Strings Convenor, Mary A, who volunteers
countless hours each week so that our children can play in LPS String Ensembles! Your passion is evident
to all!
What next?
We have one last set of auditions next Monday 16 December (scales and sight reading). Once the audition
results have been discussed with the conductors, we will be in contact with the offer of positions for 2020.
In 2020, private tutorials and ensembles (except Mozart) will start once we have confirmed the use of the
classrooms with the school. This will only be after the school has finalised their classes for 2020. Your tutor
will be in contact in Term 1 2020 and will inform you when and where the first lesson will take place.
In the meantime, stay safe and enjoy a well earned break over Christmas and New Year.
The Strings Committee

2020 School Travel Applications Now Open
To assist with any enquiries you may receive regarding student travel applications, we have provided
some information below.
Applications for student travel in 2020 opened on Friday, 11 October 2019.
Students progressing to year 3 and year 7 no longer need to re-apply if they:
are continuing at the same school
are residing at the same address
have not been sent an expiry notification from Transport for NSW.
Where a student meets the new distance eligibility, the system will automatically update their
entitlement. If they do not meet the new eligibility, they will receive an expiry notification via email.
Students who have an entitlement approved under a medical condition which is due to expire will
receive a notification advising them to re-apply.
Term Bus Pass holders will receive a notification to re-apply.
If students need to update their information or re-apply, they should go online to
https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/updateDetails
Applications need to be submitted before 31 December 2019 to ensure student entitlements are
updated and their current entitlement/card is not cancelled. If their application is submitted after 31
December 2019, the system will automatically cancel an entitlement/card and a new one will need to
be issued.
Students in the Opal network applying for a SSTS or Term Bus Pass entitlement for the first time will
receive their card at their nominated postal address. Cards will be mailed out from January 2020.
