Deputy Principals’ Message

Year 5 Camp - Outdoor Education

This afternoon Year 5 will return from 3 days of fun and adventure at The Outdoor Education Centre in

Morisset. From all reports the students have been wonderfully well behaved and have enjoyed

themselves at: ‘Mud World’; canoeing and many other fantastic outdoor education activities.

Our thanks go to all of the accompanying teachers - Miss Sachs, Miss Knight, Miss Sweeney, Mrs

Hallinan and Mr Brock for all their work throughout the last few days keeping our students safe and well.

We trust they will all sleep well tonight!

‘Meet the Teacher’ Evenings

It was so good to meet all of our parents and carers on Monday and Tuesday nights at the Kindergarten

and Years 1 and 2 ‘Meet the Teacher’ Evening. Teachers valued the opportunity to explain the systems

and procedures that operate in their classrooms as well as explain the learning topics being covered this

year. Teachers appreciate the opportunity to meet the parents and carers of the wonderful students that

they teach. We thank you for your attendance.

Years 3 & 4 Swimming Carnival

Monday was a very busy day on the pool deck at LPS! The day started very overcast put we proceeded

with our collective fingers crossed for no weather interruptions. Unfortunately this wasn't the case. Late

in the day we had a break in the weather so we were still pable to finish the carnival with competitors in

the 200m Individual Medley races. We are all ready for Finals Night on Thursday!

Page 5: Lindfield Lines€¦ · Lindfield Lines Term 1 Week 4 18 February 2020 Principal: Megan Lockery ... Front: Amelia B, Annabelle J, Sophia D, Poppy Hardy, Annika L and Isabella K House

Head Lice

The warm weather seems to attract head lice. If your child presents with eggs or lice, please treat them

with approved products as advised by your pharmacist as soon as possible to prevent spreading to other

students. For more information please visit

https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/environment/headlice/Pages/treatment.aspx

Translated documents can be found below:

treatment-options-information-for-parents

Homework

Teachers are introducing homework to K-6 students and expectations will be

explained more fully during our ‘Meet the Teacher’ evenings. Parents will also

receive a copy of our Homework Policy. Students in Years 3 – 6 are asked to sign a

contract as a commitment to their homework. We believe homework is an important

task to develop solid work habits at home and is a way of consolidating content

covered at school. In K-2, teachers will phase in various aspects of the homework

program to allow students to get used to the routine and learn what is expected in

each activity.

PSSA Training and Games

In the event of wet weather, or if the ground is wet from the previous night’s rain, PSSA training will be

cancelled. On these wet weather mornings, supervision will be provided by PSSA coaches from 8:00-

8:30am, as we realise that some family arrangements cannot be changed at the last minute. Due to Zone

Swimming on Friday 28 February, there will be no games or training this week.

Playmates

Kindergarten students have settled in well to the playground and have been enjoying spending time with

their Year 5 and 6 Playmates mentors. Students have enjoyed playing school yard games together and

getting to know each other.

LPS Colour Fun Run

This week all students received a letter about the LPS Colour Fun Run and their sponsorship form. We

are so very excited about this upcoming event. Some students have already gone online to set up their

account. There will be prizes to win each week. The photo below is a clue to this week's prize! Please

see the poster on the following page for more information. Thanks to all parents for supporting this

initiative!

Interested in being a Class Parent/Carer for 2020?

Role of the Class Parent/Carer

Each class at Lindfield Public School has one or two parents who take on the role of Class Parent for that year. It is a voluntary position whose focus is to support the teacher, other parents, the P&C and the broader school community. They play a key role in maintaining effective communication between teachers, parents/carers and the P&C.

Class parent tasks often include creation of class contact lists, constructing rosters for parent-assisted activities in class, and resourcing volunteers from their class for various fund-raising activities. Class Parents also play a key role in the social life of the school by helping build class cohesion (such as arranging a class play date or parent social event each term) and by welcoming new parents into the school community. Most communication in this role is done via email.

If you are interested in being a class parent, please complete the tear off slip below and return to your child’s class teacher. Note: The class teacher will choose the class parents and introduce them to the class at the ‘Meet the Teacher’ sessions.

Please ensure all children with anaphylaxis and other medical

conditions hand in their updated Action Plans. Kindly ask your

doctors to sign, stamp and date them. The school needs to

receive a coloured copy of the Action Plan for our health

Anaphylaxis at Lindfield Public School At Lindfield Public School in 2020, we have a small number of children who could have a potentially life

threatening allergic reaction. They are found across our school from Kindergarten to Year 6.

How can parents help these children?

Choose alternative sandwich spreads to peanut butter and Nutella. Inform your child that

these foods can trigger an anaphylactic reaction.

Reinforce the school’s NO FOOD SHARING message.

Please note, no students are allowed to bring

glass bottles to school for safety reason

2020 Premier’s Reading Challenge

The Premier’s Reading Challenge begins on Monday 2 March and will

conclude on Friday 28 August. All students will receive a letter next

week during their Library lesson with more information.

This is a free, state-wide program available to all NSW schools.

Students are encouraged to read a certain number of books depending

on their year level from a set list of books. These books can be readily

found in our school Library and at local council Libraries.

We strongly encourage your child to take part in this very worthwhile

Challenge. It is designed to inspire a love of reading, can help improve

literacy skills and exposes children to quality literature. It also helps to

support our students to aspire in Library lessons, as part of our whole-

school ROAR expectations, by encouraging our students to read a

wider and diverse range of books. Students who complete the

Challenge will be named and congratulated in our school newsletter

and Years 3-6 now also have their own ‘Wall of Fame’ in our school Library!

To assist and encourage all K-2 students to take part in the Challenge, books read in class and in Library

will be added to student lists by the Teacher Librarians as they are read. So please do not be concerned if

you see different books added to your child’s list that you have not entered yourself.

The number of books each student is required to read are as follows:

All books will need to be logged online via the NSW PRC website using your child’s individual logon

details. This is the same username and password they use to access computers and Oliver Library at

school. Years 3-6 students will be given time to complete their records online during Library lessons.

Go to https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/rules.html for more information on their rules, updated privacy

information and certificates awarded.

Please do not hesitate to contact or see us in the Library if you have any questions or issues with logging

in or entering titles!

Good luck and happy reading!

Mrs Renee Chapman and Mrs Rachel Loftus

Parents and carers, this is a special Thank You for supporting Swimming at LPS. Your help on the BBQ,

grandparent on & around the pool deck!

GOOD LUCK TO OUR FINALISTS!

Congratulations to all the swimmers who are racing in Finals Night on Thursday. The coaches would like to

remind our young swimmers to stay relaxed, try your best and enjoy the experience.

If you are able to help on the night, please contact Stef on [email protected].
