Descriptive Abstract• Outlines the topics. • Is like a table of contents in paragraph form. • Describe the work.• Are less and less common.

Informative Abstract• Provides detail. Formats of Informative Abstracts:• Identifying information (bibliographic citation or other identification of the

document)• Concise restatement of the main point, initial problem or other background• Methodology (for experimental work) and key findings• Major conclusions

Three types of indexing languages.

• Controlled language – Approved library terms to describe document.

• Natural language – Any term found in the document, esp. a question can be used to describe the document.

• Free language - Any term that will describe the document.

• It is a synonimous to summary or to be more profound a synopsis.

• It is an abbreviated, accurate, representation, of the significant content of a document.

• It is accompanied by an adequate bibliographic description to be able the original document to be traced.ABSTRACTING
