    LIST OF POWERFUL MOTHERS.

    These women are brazen They are tough, independent and smart. They waited forno one. Someone needed to compile a list ofPOWERFUL MOTHERS. The time has come.

    There are many more mothers to be added.The list keeps getting longer, so it will be divided into parts.

    Jenny McCarthy

    American model, comedian, actress, author, and activist. Mother of one child and stepchildren and married to actor Jim Carey.

    She first appeared in Playboymagazine in October 1993 and was named Playmate ofthe Year in its June 1994 issue. She later began a career in television and film and hasrecently started writing books. In 1995, MTV chose McCarthy to be the host of a newdating show called Singled Out, for which she left Hot Rocks.In 2003, McCarthy appeared in Scary Movie 3 along with model and actress PamelaAnderson. In 2005, McCarthy produced, wrote, and starred in Dirty Love alongwith Carmen Electra. The same year, McCarthy hosted a new show on E! called Party atthe Palms. The reality show, which is filmed at The Palms Hotel in Las Vegas, features

McCarthy currently stars in an online fiveepisode series, called In The Motherhood, along with Chelsea Handler and Leah Remini.The show is on MSN and is based on being a mother where users could submit theirstories to have it made into real webisodes. The comic has written a memoir about herquest to help her 4-year-old son, Evan, called Louder than Words: A Mothers Journey InHealing Autism. In June 2007, Talk About Curing Autism (TACA) named McCarthy as

    its spokesperson. Her stated goal is to educate the public that autism is treatable. Shewill be participating in fundraisers, online chats, and other activities for the non-profitorganization to help families affected by autism spectrum disorders. Her first fundraiserfor TACA, Ante Up for Autism, was held on October 20, 2007, in Irvine, California.

    Natalie Cole

    American singer-songwriter. Mother of one child and single.

    has won eight Grammy Awards throughout her career. She achieved success in herearly career as an R&B star, but smoothly changed her repertoire towards amore jazz orientated musical style in the early 90's. Cole may be best remembered forher 1991 album, Unforgettable... with Love, featuring her own arrangements of herfather's greatest hits. Her decision to record the songs was a chart success; the albumsold over 7 million copies in the United States alone, and won Cole several GrammyAwards, includingAlbum of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Traditional Pop VocalPerformance. The album featured a duet, the title track, with her father, created bysplicing a recording of his vocals into the track. As a single, it reached #14 on Billboard

    Magazine's Hot 100 chart, and went gold. Natalie's latest album Still Unforgettable wasreleased September 9, 2008. The first single and video is another virtual duet with herfather, a cover of his 1951 hit "Walkin' My Baby Back Home". "I've been so fortunate tohave learned so much from my past experiences. I am embraced by the love andsupport of my family and friends; I am committed to my belief in myself and in myabiding faith to meet this challenge with a heartfelt optimism and determination.     English pop singer, songwriter, dancer, turned fashion designer, author, businesswoman,and occasional actress and model. Mother of three children and married to super starsoccer player (footballer) David Beckham.

    During her rise to fame with 1990s pop group the Spice Girls, she was dubbed PoshSpice, a nickname first coined by the British tabloid press.     German supermodel, actress, TV presenter, fashion designer, television producer andoccasional singer. Mother of three children and married to singer Seal.

    Klum has also the been the Emmy Award-nominated hostess ofProject RunwayandGermany's Next Topmodel, and is known for her modeling work with Victoria's Secret.

    Klum has designed her own clothing lines (including one for infants) that were featuredin the famous German mail-order catalog "Otto." She also has designed shoesfor Birkenstock, jewellery for Mouawad, a clothing line for Jordache, and swimsuits featured in the 2002 Sports IllustratedSwimsuit Issue that, for a limited time, wereavailable for sale through her personal website. She was one of the designers ofthe Victoria's Secret lingerie line "The Body", which was named after the nickname shereceived following her first Victoria's Secret Fashion Show appearance.     Lorraine Bracco

    Award-winning, American actress. Mother of two children and is single.

    Bracco is an Academy Award, Golden Globe, and Emmy Award-nominated, as wellas Screen Actors Guild Award-winning, American actress. She is best known for herroles as Karen Hill in Goodfellas and Dr. Jennifer Melfi on the hit HBO TV series, TheSopranos. Bracco received her big career break when offered the role as the mobster-wife Karen Hill in Goodfellas, which earned her an Academy Award nomination for BestSupporting Actress. During the audition process forThe Sopranos, Bracco had originallyvied for the lead female role of Carmela Soprano, but turned it down fearing the part wastoo similar to her role as the mob-wife in Goodfellas and that the role of mob-psychiatrist Dr. Jennifer Melfi would be a new and bigger challenge for her. The role hasnetted her several award nominations, including three consecutive nominations for"Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series" at the Emmy Awards in 1999, 2000 and

Sheappeared as a guest judge for the two-episode finale.     Dr Catherine Foley

    Australian Senior Principal Research Scientist, volunteer and speaker. Mother of threechildren, marital status unknown..

    Dr Cathy Foley heads a research unit at the CSIRO in Sydney, shes also the first

    woman to be elected as President of the Australian Institute of Physics in its 44 yearhistory. At age 18, she had wanted to devote her life to helping people in some way. Shewas inspired by the example of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, so she wrote to the Sisters ofCharity working with Bourke's indigenous community then went to Bourke for threemonths after her HSC. "And that's where I also realized that the world is divided into twosorts of people - those who help the individuals and those that are interested in changingthe system. And I realized I was a change-the-system person. Through the CSIRO'sWomen in Science program, which ran through the 80s and 90s, Catherine spoke togirls at hundreds of schools about keeping their options open by not automaticallyshunning the sciences. She received a Public Service Medal in this year's Australia Dayhonors for her research in physics, promotion of science through a weekly ABC radioshow, TV and speaking engagements and for being a role model for women in science.

    But she always believed - first as a student at St Anthony's primary school, Marsfield,and then at Santa Sabina College, Strathfield - that she would be a high school scienceteacher. Catherine studied physics, chemistry and maths for her HSC, as did her olderbrother, Bernard, who had nurtured her interest in science as a younger girl. She isinvolved in the Women In Science Inquiry Network, which was established to increasewomen's participation in the sciences. Catherine has volunteered for many committeesand community initiatives apart from Women in Science. And she is a former nationalpresident of Scientists Against Nuclear Arms. "The work that I am related to has actuallycontributed to telecommunications or to technology, which means the world is different,possibly better," she says. Catherine is now conducting a research project usingsuperconductivity to make magnetic field sensors. Dr Cathy Foley holds aSuperconducting Quantum Interference Device (SQUID).

    Shawnna

    She is the first African American female artist signed to Def Jam through Ludacris'Disturbing tha Peace Records. Mother of two children.

    Shawnna is known for her rapid fire delivery and her sexual tones. She is one of onlytwo female rappers to ever have a #1 song on the Billboard Hot 100with 2003's "StandUp" with Ludacris. Shawnna's father is prominent blues and rock and roll guitarist BuddyGuy. She is managed through Hustle Period and has started her own label M.O.E.,which stands for Money Over Everything. She was featured on the 2 Fast 2 Furioussoundtrack on the tracks "Block Reincarnated" (Shawnna feat. Kardinal Offishall) and"Slum" (I-20 feat. Shawnna).     Australian supermodel, actress, and businesswoman. Mother of two children and single.Macpherson became an international star through her appearances in Elle magazine.She appeared in every issue for six straight years. Eventually she gained even moreexposure through Sports Illustratedmagazines annual swimsuit issue. She appeared onthe cover a record five times, (1986, 1987, 1988, 1994 and 2006). By 1986, her

    American actress and singer. Mother of four children and widow to Dr. John Kappas.

    best known for playing the role of Carol Brady in the television program The BradyBunch, which ran from 1969 to 1974. Her most widely seen role was as "Carol Brady" inThe Brady Bunch which was produced from 1968 until 1974. A worldwide success, itcontinues to be screened in many countries through syndication.     American actress. Mother of one child and married to actor Angelo Pagan.

    Best known for her role as Carrie Heffernan on the CBS sitcom The King of Queens.She had several guest appearances on shows such as Evening Shade, Diagnosis:Murder, NYPD Blue and Friends (in the Season 1 episode "The One With The Birth" ).She originally auditioned for the part of "Monica Geller" but did not get the role andinstead was considered for the role of Rachel Green.
