Easter WorkshopThe Easter workshop ran from 16th - 25th April, and was really popular. In Eng-lish and Putonghua classes, children were able to discuss Easter and learn some new vocabulary. They sang Easter songs and talked about chocolate eggs and the Easter bunny. We had a great time in the Drama classes acting out a short play about Easter, and everyone enjoyed participating in Easter egg hunts around the classroom.

In Magic Cooking with Miss Jovia, the children made Macau Puddings and cup-cakes. They had a fun time layering cream and biscuits into a yummy parfait and the delicious cupcakes were the envy of everyone!

In the Visual Art classes, the children had a load of great projects. They could make a carrot ship with a rabbit sailor, from paper clay. There was also a fun game made from soft clay, where you had to find the rabbit in a garden of carrots.

Easter ClassesWe also discussed Easter in our Playgroup and Nursery classes for Putonghua and English. Children learnt Easter related vocabulary such as 'Easter eggs' and 'chicks' and made some beautiful crafts like brightly coloured Easter eggs. The children had a great time meeting the Easter bunny and trying on some Easter bonnets, and they enjoyed learning about the Easter festival.

Poetry Recital CompetitionsOn the 27th April, some of our students took part in the 5th "Wen Hua Gui Bao" Children Recital Competition - Putonghua and English poems or rhymes recital competition organized by the Platform. Competition was tough, and there were beautiful performances from many young children, but we are pleased to announce that Aiden Suen (K2) was named champion in the Putong-hua poetry recital. A number of Kindergarten children also took part in an Eng-lish poetry recital on 3rd May. The children performed wonderfully; recalling their lines with ease, and we are proud of Samuel Wong (K1) for winning the place of 1st Runner up. Congratulations to both Aiden and Samuel!

1st Hong Kong Children's Painting Competition 2013-14The 1st Hong Kong Children's Painting Competition organized by Sing Tao Group for the first time was held on the 6th May 2014. 55 Little Cosmos students entered the Western Painting Section and produced some beautiful paintings in a variety of themes. Many of our students were awarded prizes, and Leung Sui Him, Ambrose, was the Champion of the competition in his age group! The paintings that were awarded Champion, Runner Up and Merits will all be printed in the Sing Tao newspaper.

The Centre only took part in the Western category and we hope to participate also in the Chinese Painting category next year. The students' artwork each had its own unique theme, based on the topics of people or landscapes. Children who painted people made delightful pictures of their family members, Snow White, doctors, bakers, BBQ meat shop butchers and builders doing scaffolding work, to name a few. Those who painted landscapes created beautiful pictures of forests, fields, and Victoria harbour. All of the artwork was rich in subject matter, showing incredible imagination.

Mother’s DayMother’s Day was the 11th May, and we focused on it as a theme for the Nurs-ery and Playgroup classes. Children learnt the English and Putonghua for words such as ‘love’, ‘hug’, and ‘mother’, and we made special crafts devoted to our Mothers. The children sang special songs such as ‘MOMMY’ and ‘I Love You’ and they had the opportunity to cuddle up with their Mothers while we read special stories together. The Visual Art classes also used the theme of Mother’s Day, and they made big cards with their hand prints inside, for their Mother’s to keep forever. It was a lovely week full of family feelings and lots of hugs!
