View From The ChairHello everyone and welcome to 2019at the Herne Bay Little Theatre. I hope you all enjoyed your Christmas andNew Year Festivities.

There is never really much to report at the beginning of a new year except to say that we have a very full and exciting programme for the year ahead – something I’m sure that will appeal to all our patrons.

I must mention our pantomime ‘Dick Whittington & his Cat’ by Ben Crocker.Once again, it was a sell-out production with a waiting list for tickets. All the audiences left having had a wonderful time and I think in one way our theatre is so unique, because of its size that the audience becomes part of the production and are totally involved.

We had a brilliant cast and together with the superb sound and lighting effects plus the imaginative and colourful costumes, not forgetting the set painting and the rather large number of props that were required,we couldn’t go wrong! Well done to all.

We finished the year with a very wellattended evening of Mulled Wine with Mince pies together with a raffle and finishing with ‘The Muppets Christmas Carol’ film. With thanks to Philip Robinson.

With all best wishes for the New Year andwill look forward to seeing you all once again at the theatre.

Tony Jose

Drama NewsHappy New Year! Hope you all had a lovely Christmas. Now it is back to the fray in 2019.

All those who saw Dick Whittington and his Cat directed by Tony Jose have said how much they enjoyed our annual panto for 2018. It was lively and colourful and great fun. A wonderful way to start the Christmas festivities and a fabulous end to our year of productions.

You will see our programme for 2019 has been published and we hope you will find the plays as entertaining as you have all our productions last year. We start with Present from the Past by Richard Everett directed by Dick Langridge.

You may remember we presented Entertaining Angels by Richard Everett last year, which was both dramatic and comic and thought provoking. Present from The Past is another of this author’s plays with twists and turns to keep you guessing. We welcome a new member to the Herne Bay Little Theatre,Tony Marden, to the cast, which is:

Present From The Past

Howard: Tony MardenFrances: Mary CresseyRachel: Pat DixonColin: Len BlakeDavid: David Pentin

So do book now!

Many of you enjoy our periodic Play Reading sessions. We are holding another on Wednesday 30th January. Death by Appointment by Agatha Christie. Loads of characters, lots of red herrings and the usual Christie magic. Set in Jerusalem and, of course, with the usual horrible murder it will be great fun to read. Even if you don’t want to read, but would like to listen, you will be very welcome and there will be tea and coffee and biscuits to keep you going through the agony of suspense!

We have now cast our play for April, The 39 Steps by Patrick Barlow to be directed by Shelagh Scarborough. This is a fast moving, energetic and hilarious take on John Buchan’s original, very popular book of the same name. Please don’t miss it!

May I wish you a Happy New Year and look forward to seeing you all in 2019.

Victoria

Marketing UpdateHappy New Year to everyone. Firstly, thank you for the positive comments from members about the new signage outside our building.

The old boards needed replacing and we wanted to retain the distinctive shapes whilst incorporating the new logo. Local supplier The Studio came up with an ideal solution and also produced extra signs over the canopy making it easier for first time visitors to find us.

Spreading The Word LocallyBeing a hidden gem also presents its challenges in raising awareness of thetheatre which is an ongoing activity.

Do you have friends or family who haveyet to visit the theatre? We’re planning an open morning at a future monthly Saturday get-together so please watch out for an update.

Any other ideas on enticing new members, especially actors are always welcome.

Poster/Leaflet DistributionWe have most of the major Council poster sites and selected outlets covered but would appreciate help outside of the town especially with the housing developments as newcomers move into the area.

Please contact me if this is something youcan help with on an ongoing basis.

Sound & LightingAlthough we are a small quaint theatre wedo not lack behind with technology in the sound and lighting department.

Our computerised system for sound, which can be controlled wirelessly from a laptopin the auditorium, is as good as any professional theatre allowing sound to be directed via three separate amplifiers to the various areas of the stage and auditorium.

Having invested in a number of new LED lighting fixtures during the year it wasfound that our existing lighting desk wasnot capable of getting the best out of themdue to lack of control channels, our old desk only had 48 with 24 of them in use just forour conventional analogue dimmers.

With the new LED fixtures using up to 7 channels each plus the need for spare channels to control items such as smoke machines and switches for practical lamps etc. a new state of the art lighting desk has been purchased with over 1000 channels and software features allowing us to do more complex lighting than could have been achieved before.
