SAINT HANNIBAL MARY DI FRANCIA, PRIEST AND FOUNDER

Solemnity

Born in Messina (1851-1927), he was ordained priest on

March 16, 1878. He dedicated himself to the moral andspiritualredemptionoftheAvignoneQuarterandfoundedtheAnthonianorphanages forgirlsandboys(1882-1883)andtheReligious Congregations of the Daughters of the Divine Zeal(March19,1887)andof theRogationistsof theHeartof Jesus(May 16, 1897). He intuited from his youth the necessity ofprayer for vocations and strove in every way to spread thedivine command of Jesus: The harvest is abundant, but thelaborersarefew.ThereforepraytheLordoftheharvesttosendout laborers into his harvest (Mt 9: 37-38; Lk 10: 2). He isrecognized as «true father of orphans and the poor» and«authentic precursor and zealous teacher ofmodern pastoralcareforvocations».

IwillconsidertheChurchof JesusChristasthegreatfield covered with harvest, namely the people of theworld and the numberless multitudes of souls from allsocialclassesandconditions. Iwillalwaysconsiderhowthe major part of this harvest perishes for lack oflaborers, not only in the lands of unbelievers, andcountries separated from communion with the CatholicChurch, but also in somany Christian lands, in Catholiccities,andcountryside.Iwill feelmyheartpiercedbysomuch harm affecting particularly the tender harvestwhichistheemerginggenerations.Iwillimmersemyself
