Phase 1 - Jumping

All horses will be required to jump a course for which there will be a time allowed. The course will consist of a minimum of eight fences which will have a natural appearance and not be easily dislodged. The maximum height of fences will be 3’9” at the discretion of the Judges.The manner of going will be taken into account - refusals will be severely penalised .First Refusal - 15; Second Refusal - 20; Third Refusal - Elimination; Jumping Knockdown - 10; Fall of Horse or Rider - Elimination, and in the interests of safety, competitors may not remount. 60% of the available marks will be allocated in this Phase (40% of actual jumping and 20% style and presence).

Phase 2 - Ride.

Phase 3 - Presence and Conformation

These Phases will be judged as for Hunter classes with 40% of the available marks allocated (Ride 20%, Conformation 20%).Working Hunter Horses can be shown in any bridle with a bit. In the event of a tie at the conclusion of judging, the horse gaining the greatest number of points in Phase 1 shall be the winner. If there is still a tie the points in Phases 2 and 3 shall decide.

AIM

This class is open to thoroughbred horses only. Horses entered in this class must have been named and returned in training and/or have raced (including point-to-pointed). This class is restricted to horses bred in Ireland only.

JUDGING

To be judged on the ride, manners and conformation. Judges may ride some of the exhibits and then may require individual shows from as many as time allows. The individual show, if required, must not exceed 1.5 minutes and to include the walk, trot, canter, simple change at canter, rein back, strike off on required led, gallop on, halt and stand still. There will be a strong emphasis on manners, ride and training.

Ponies entered in Classes 56-61 may not be entered in any other Classes. Ponies not in possession of a JMB current measurement certificate issued in Northern Ireland or a current SJAI or IPS measurement certificate or a certificate issued or approved by the FEI or issued by a National Federation affiliated to the FEI or a certificate issued by a Society or Scheme approved by such National Federation will be measured by a veterinary surgeon on duty before entering the judging area. See Regulation 107.

RIDDEN PONIES

Ponies entered in Classes 58-61 will not be eligible to also enter in Classes 62-65 and will only be required in the Showgrounds on Friday, 13th May. There will be no loose boxes available for the use of competitors.

Entries will be limited to the first 20 received in each class.

All children with ponies entered in Classes 58-61 may be asked to unsaddle, saddle and lead their ponies unassisted.

All ponies in Classes 56 & 57 to be shown in snaffle bridle i.e. single ring snaffle.

Ponies entered in class 58 will not be eligible for the Ridden Pony Championship and may not be entered in any other class.

Ponies entered in Classes 56-61 will not be eligible to also enter in Classes 62-65 and will be required in the Showgrounds on Friday 13th May.

Entries in Classes 62-65 will be limited to the first 18 received in each Class.

A maximum of two ponies may be ridden by the same rider per class.

Judging will be carried out in two phases and final placing will be based on the sum of points gained in each phase

Phase 1 Jumping, Style and Way of Going

Ponies will be required to jump a course of eight to ten fences, which have a natural appearance. The style of jumping and way of going will be marked by the Judge, refusals etc will be penalised, as follows:

Pigs can return home to the farm after the Show is over. If pigs are required to go for slaughter exhibitors should make their own arrangements for these pigs.

DECORATED EGGS

Decorated Eggs are being judged on Tuesday 10th May 2011. Exhibits must be delivered to the Showgrounds on Monday 9th May between 5.00pm and 7.00pm.

DECORATED EGGS COMPETITION RULES

Only real eggshells, blown not hard boiled, should be used.

Eggs from protected birds are not to be used.

Actual work on the exhibit must be done by the entrant, including marketing, cutting, painting and application of decorations etc. Objects used in or on the egg may be purchased.

Exhibits must be of an original design - no seminar eggs, class eggs, kits or exact copies from books will be accepted. Workmanship is very important, and if an egg is considered to be an exact copy to the Judge’s knowledge, it will be downgraded. Originality of design will receive upgrading accordingly.

Only the entrant can decide in which category the exhibit should be entered.

No names or means of identification must appear on the entry.

A double yolk goose egg may be entered as a goose egg.

BEEF CATTLE

METHOD OF ACCEPTING ENTRIESDue to the heavy demand for stalling accommodation, exhibitors will be limited to booking a maximum number of 8 stalls for beef cattle. Should exhibitors also have entries in the dairy section, the overall maximum will be 10 stalls (beef/dairy). It is not permissible for exhibitors to transfer stalls which they had originally booked, but no longer require, to another exhibitor.Exhibitors should note that they are not permitted to make entries from the same herd under different names or joint names.Exhibitors must book the number of stalls which they wish to use during the Show and the Stall-ing Fee(s) will be non-refundable but they may enter as many animals as they wish at a much lower non-refundable Entry Fee. Stall bookings and details of animals, together with Stalling and Entry Fee(s) must be received no later than Friday 18th March. If at this date more stalls are booked than the available capacity, exhibitors will be advised of any necessary reduction in Stalls and in such instances only will a refund be made of Stalling Fees. Exhibitors may not bring to the Show more animals than the number of stalls allocated.Exhibitors in all breeds should note that separate stalls must be reserved for calves at foot.loose Boxes will not be available for cattle.In all classes for Cows in calf or Cows or Heifers in calf, the animal must calve before 31st December 2010 if entered in a Beef Breed. To be fair to each breed, penning is calculated using a three year average. If the number of pens booked per breed exceeds this amount the Society has the right to cut pens per exhibitor.

BEEF YOUNG HANDLER COMPETITIONSPONSORED BY SAINSBURYSYOUNG STOCKPERSON RUAS 2011

This Class is being introduced to encourage all young beef handlers to compete for the prestigious title of Young Stockman/woman Royal Ulster Balmoral 2011.

RULES AND REGULATIONSThis class will be judged based on the young person’s ability to both prepare then show an animal in the Show ring.

Competitors will be required to prepare their animal for show at the ringside. Points will be awarded to the handler for dressing the animal according to breed type.

Competitors will then be required to show their animal in the ring. Points will be awarded for presentation, handling and show ring awareness e.g. reacting to steward and judge direction, setting animal in show line etc. Competitors will also be awarded points for knowledge of the animal they are showing including breeding etc.

This Class is open to both pedigree and commercial beef breeds, animals must be entered in it’s respective breed class.

It is expected that the young handler is experienced and familiar with handling the animal in the Show prior to the competition.

Animals may be washed and blow dried in advance, but no other dressing material to be used before tie up at the ringside and judging commences.

No help may be given to the handler in preparing or showing the animal, an adult may only give assistance should a safety matter arise.

Animals 30 months or under on Show date, snaffles etc & normal Show rules will apply.

Should a dispute arise regarding a competitor’s age, appropriate identification will be requested.

Exhibitors should enter in the first class for their age group. Duplication of classes is to accommodate dividing classes when entries close.

IMPORTANT NOTE : Dairy Cattle are being judged on Friday 13th May 2011.

METHOD OF ACCEPTING ENTRIESDue to the heavy demand for stalling accommodation, exhibitors will be limited to booking a maximum number of 10 stalls for dairy cattle. Should exhibitors also have entries in the beef section, the overall maximum will still be 10 stalls (dairy and beef). It is not permissible for exhibitors to transfer stalls which they had originally booked, but no longer require, to another exhibitor.

Exhibitors should note that they are not permitted to make entries from the same herd under different names or joint names.

Exhibitors must book the number of stalls which they wish to use during the Show and such stall reservations and Stalling Fee (non-refundable) must be received by Friday 18th March. If at this date more stalls are booked than the available capacity, exhibitors will be advised of any necessary reduction in stalls and only in such instances will a refund be made of stalling fees.Immediately following the above closing date, entry forms will be sent to exhibitors for completion of details of animals to be entered and these are to be returned, together with the appropriate entry fees no later than Tuesday, 12th April.

At the final closing date exhibitors may enter more animals than the number of stalls allocated but may only bring to the Show the number of animals equivalent to the number of stalls allocated.It is hoped that this method of entry will give maximum flexibility to exhibitors in selecting Dairy Cattle to be exhibited at the Show.

IMPORTANT NOTICESAll Cattle entered for this Show must be from Officially Brucellosis and Tuberculosis Free Herds, and each animal must be accompanied by the official Brucellosis Movement Permit, issued by the Department of Agriculture & Rural Development and all cattle from Great Britain or the Republic of Ireland must comply with any import regulation in force.

GENERAL REGULATIONS AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR LIVESTOCK EXHIBITORS AND THEIR STOCK ATTENDANTS

EXCLUSION OF LIABILITY 1. The Society being a charitable institution which organises the Show in order to promote agriculture and its

ancillary industries within Northern Ireland requires all entrants and exhibitors as a fundamental condition of entry to undertake and accept that the Society whether or not due to its own negligence or that of its servants, agents, sub-contractors or other entrants, exhibitors or invitees or otherwise shall not be liable in any way for any claim for compensation or otherwise which may arise out of or be connected with the Show including without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing the holding, abandonment or alteration of the date of the Show, omission of any entry, the rejection or removal of any animal or other exhibit, the removal or exclusion of any owner, groom, rider or attendant from the Show, or the appointment, decision, act or omission of any judge, officer, official, employee or other person connected with the Show, nor shall the Society nor any of its judges, officers, officials, employees or other persons be in any way responsible or accountable for anything that may happen (from any cause or circumstance whatever) to the exhibitors or their attendants, or to any exhibit or property brought into the Showgrounds, or for anything else in connection with, or arising out of, or attributable to the Society’s Show.

Each Exhibitor shall be solely responsible for any consequential or other loss, injury or damage done to, occasioned by, or arising form any animal or item exhibited by him whether or not due to the negligence of the Society or any of its servants, agents, sub-contractors or other entrants, exhibitors or invitees and for its description as given in the catalogue.

In no case will the Society be responsible for the safe delivery or dispatch of exhibits.

Exhibitors shall indemnify the Society against all legal or other proceeding in regard thereto.

ENTRIES Exhibitors are requested not to make entries unless they are prepared to comply strictly with these regulations.

2. Entries can be made online at www.balmoralshow.co.uk or on the official entry forms, available from the RUAS office, The Kings Hall, Balmoral, Belfast, BT9 6GW. All Entry Forms electronic or otherwise must be accurately completed and signed by the exhibitor or agent, must be received by the Society, together with the correct amount of the Entry Fees, Stalling Fees or Penning Fees by the closing date of entries. Faxed and emailed entries are only acceptable if signed and accompanied by credit/debit card details.

3. No Entry will be accepted unless it has been received on or before the closing date, and is accompanied by the full fees.

4. In order to be entitled to make entries at Members’ rates, the exhibitor must have paid their subscription in full for the current year before their entry can be processed.

5. Entry forms must be signed by the Exhibitor or agent. Society staff are not permitted to fill out the Entry Form for an intending exhibitor.

6. All particulars required on the entry form must be fully stated, otherwise the exhibit is liable to be disqualified and excluded from the Show. The exhibit must be that as described in the entry form.

7. The exhibitor must ensure that the exhibit is correctly names. Any exhibit entered in a wrong class will be excluded from competition and entry fee forfeit. No alteration whatsoever can be made in an entry after the closing date.

8. In the case of an animal, the name of which has been changed, the exhibitor is required to insert both the present name and the former name on the entry form.

9. All exhibits must be bona fide the property of the exhibitor at the time of entry.

10. Animals may be entered in all the classes for which they are eligible, and an exhibitor may show any number of exhibits in the same class, unless class restrictions state otherwise.

11. Exhibits entered and not shown shall forfeit the entry fee.

12. Rejection of Entries - The Council reserves the right to reject any Entry without assigning any reason. In the event of the Council being unable to accept any entry, notice will be given not later that six days after the final closing of the entries, and the fees lodged will be refunded, or in the case of there being insufficient entries in a class, the Council will withdraw the class from competition and return the Entry Fees.

13. Each exhibitor or agent must be prepared to verify every statement contained in the entry form in any manner the Council may require.

14. Where, in the opinion of the Council, there are either insufficient or too many entries in any one Class, the Council may, without reference to the Exhibitor or Agent, amalgamate or divide such Class. Amalgamation may be with any other similar or relevant Class, with or without increase of Prize Money, but where a Class is divided similar Prize Money will be paid in each division.

EXHIBITORS/ASSISTANTS ADMISSION PASSES15. Exhibitors, not members of the Society, who have paid at least £40 (inc. V.A.T.) entrance fees, are entitled to a

free admission wristband, which is not transferable and must be attached to your wrist before being presented at the gate. Exhibitors are entitled to one admission wrist band per two stalls booked (cattle) or two animals entered in other sections subject to a maximum of four wrist bands, except for Dairy Cattle where one wristband will be allocated per stall.

POSTPONEMENT 16. The Society reserves the right to postpone or abandon the Show but will not be responsible for loss incurred by

any intending Exhibitor resulting from such postponement of abandonment.

CUPS AND TROPHIES 17. All Cups and Trophies in the possession of the Society are available to be claimed by winners but can not be

collected until after the Council meeting succeeding the Show subject to satisfactory security. All such cups and trophies must be returned to the Society’s offices in The King’s Hall at least ten clear days previous to the date of the succeeding Show, in as good condition as that in which they were received.

PAYMENT OF PRIZES18. Cheques for prizes awarded (except where further qualification of an animal is required) will be forwarded by post

to the exhibitor to whom they have been awarded as soon as possible after the Show.

HEALTH AND SAFETY19. Exhibitors are to understand that, although every reasonable precaution will be taken to ensure the safety and

welfare of the animal, and the security of the implements or other objects exhibited, the Society will not be responsible for loss or accidents of any kind which may occur.

20. Any exhibitor attempting to show stock whilst intoxicated will be prohibited from the judging ring. Stewards reserve the right to remove any animal from the ring.

21. Fractious animals will also be prohibited from the judging ring and/or parades.

22. Smoking is prohibited in all livestock areas.

23. Livestock exhibitors are reminded that the Show environment can be upsetting for livestock, even those of normally placid temperament. Livestock with unstable or aggressive temperament should not be brought to the Showground.

ADJUDICATION24. No person shall in any way communicate with a Judge engaged in adjudication without the sanction of the

Steward in attendance. Any exhibitor who enters the space in which adjudication is proceeding may be disqualified from receiving a prize. Judges will equally be requested not to converse with spectators or to apply for any further information respecting exhibits under their adjudication or examination, except in regard to age or lameness in the case of horses.

25. If the Judges consider that any exhibit does not come within the Class specification, they are requested to report the case to the Stewards of the Class.

26. The Judges shall not award a prize for the best exhibit in any Class unless there are at least two exhibits. The Judges may recommend a prize to be awarded for any exhibit of distinguished merit, although there shall be no competition in the Class.

27. The decision of the Judges shall in all cases be final, except where misrepresentation or breach of the Rules is discovered.

28. The Judges are instructed to withhold a Prize when sufficient merit does not appear.

29. The judging of any class should not be deemed to be complete until all exhibits have been dismissed by the Judge.

JUDGES30. Should any Judge be unable to fulfill his engagement the Council reserves the right to appoint another in his

place, or additional Judges if required, and to make any alterations necessary to the success of the Show.

31. Should a Judge encounter an animal or animals which he has bred, owned, or in which he has had an interest, a request may be made to the Chief Steward of that section to appoint another suitable person to place such animals. If a Chief Steward is aware or made aware of such a situation, he should notify the Judge.

OBJECTIONS32. Objections to awards requiring reference to the Judges must be lodged at the Office of the Society on the day

such award is made. Any other objection must be made within seven days after the last day of the Show, and will be considered at the next Meeting of the Council. No objection will be considered by the Council unless accompanied by a fee of £20, which will be refunded if the objection is sustained.

33. The Council reserves the right of determining all disputed cases, etc., and the decision of the Council shall be final in all respects.

STEWARDS34. No one shall act as Steward in a ring while a class in which he/she is an exhibitor is under adjudication.

35. The Council delegates full power to the Stewards to enforce all the Regulations

PLACARDS OR ADVERTISING MATERIAL 36. Placards or advertising material will be permitted to be placed over animal stalls, or pens but only in reference to

animals exhibited and herd represented and awards achieved at the Annual Show in 2010. It is not permitted to display Rosettes/Awards won at previous Shows. ( not applicable to poultry section)

FODDER37. The Society does not take charge of or feed any livestock (Poultry and Pigeons exception). Straw will be

provided free of charge. Straw tickets will be forwarded for each animal. Supplies available between 7.00am-9.00am and 5.00pm-7.00pm.

DELIVERY OR REMOVAL OF LIVESTOCK38. The Society shall not be responsible in any way for the delivery of any exhibit at the Show, nor for the removal of

any exhibit at the close of the Show. A Stock travelling pass must be presented for admission and no animal will be received or removed without the production of such pass.

REJECTION 39. The Society reserves to itself the power to reject or remove any animal or other exhibit from the Show.

CONDUCT OF EXHIBITORS AND THEIR ATTENDANTS40. Owners of stock are warned that any act of disobedience or discourtesy to the Officials of the Show on the part

of the owner, groom, rider or attendant will eliminate the owner’s exhibit or exhibits from adjudication or from taking a Prize. The Society’s Show Committee reserves the power to remove from the Show, any owner, groom, rider or attendant, together with the exhibit or exhibits concerned.

41. If an attendant infringes the rule he shall be removed immediately from the charge of the exhibit, and another attendant substituted by the Stewards, at a cost of £20 per hour to the exhibitor.

VETERINARY REGULATIONS & TREATMENT42. Diseased Animals. Exhibitors are hereby warned against bringing any diseased animal into the Show premises,

and if under any circumstances this regulation be violated, the exhibitor of the diseased animal will be solely responsible for any claims that may arise for damage or loss to other exhibitors or any other persons, and the Council holds itself free from liability in such cases. Should any animal manifest symptoms of disease during the exhibition, it must be removed immediately from the premises, on an order to that effect by the Chief Executive, or by a senior member of the staff or by a Veterinary Surgeon appointed by the Society.

43. Ringworm - Exhibitors are advised that animals suffering from Ringworm or Mange must not be brought to the Society’s Showgrounds. Following an inspection by a Veterinary Surgeon, appointed by the Society, any animals so affected will require to be removed from the premises immediately.

44. Veterinary Treatment. The Society appoints a panel of Veterinary Surgeons to be on duty during the hours of the Show. Their role is to deal with requests from Judges and other Society officials and to attend to emergencies that may arise. It is a condition of entry that these Veterinary Surgeons may on their own authority give to any animal such emergency treatment as they may consider appropriate in the event that the owner or his representative cannot immediately be found. Exhibitors will be required to pay any such Veterinary Surgeon for the full cost of treatment administered whether in an emergency as above or if such treatment is requested by the exhibitor.

45. Blood Sampling. The Society condemns the use of prohibited or unlicensed drugs in livestock or bloodstock production and reserves the right to take whatever samples it considers necessary for analysis. Should, subsequently, trace of any prohibited or unlicensed drug be found, penalties will be applied in line with Regulation 46 contained in the Regulations and Instructions to Exhibitors. Furthermore since such positive findings may be in contravention of the Food Safety (NI) Order, 1991 and its subordinate legislation the results will be reported to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

PENALITIES46. In case it shall be proved to the satisfaction of the Council that the owner of an animal exhibited, or any person

in his employment, or under his control, has been guilty of any violation of the Regulations and Instructions, has made a false statement in the Certificate of Entry, or substituted another animal for that described on the Entry Form; has placed an animal in a box or stall, by day or night, other than that to which he is entitled, or has been guilty of any practice calculated to deceive or mislead, or to secure an unfair advantage (including the use of prohibited or unlicensed drugs), such exhibitor shall forfeit all Prizes, Cups, Medals, etc., awarded to him at the Show, together with all fees paid by him, and his animal or animals shall be liable to be removed forthwith from the Showgrounds, and such owner shall be liable to be prevented from competing at this or any further Show of the Society.

INSURANCE47. INSURANCE - All owners and competitors are personally responsible for damages to third persons caused by

themselves, their employees, their agents or their horses/ponies. They are therefore strongly advised to take out third-party insurance providing full coverage for participation in equestrian events at home and abroad, and to keep the policy up to date

PARADES51. A parade of prizewinning goats will take place on Thursday morning 12th May. The first three placed animals in

each class will be required to participate and if any animal be absent from a Parade, the Exhibitor is liable to forfeit the prize or prizes won by the animal. Other prizewinning animals are invited to parade.

52. Parades of Prize Winning Cattle will take place on Friday 13th May (Beef and Dairy) at the times stated in the Programme, and Stockmen must be in attendance with their animals one hour before the time of each Parade. 1st and 2nd placed animals must and 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th animals are invited, to parade. If 1st and 2nd placed animals be absent from a Parade, the Exhibitor is liable to forfeit the Prize or Prizes won by the animal.

53. The Beef and Dairy Inter Breed Champions will lead the Parade, followed by each breed in Prize Schedule order, with the Champion and Reserve Champion leading their respective breed. Pairs selections should parade in catalogue order within their own breed and only pair-off on entry to the Arena as directed by stewards.

54. White Coats. Exhibitors of Cattle and Pigs are particularly requested to provide White Coats or breed regulation dress for all persons attending their animals in the Judging Rings or in Parades. Reference to a sponsor or the herd shown will only be permitted on the breast pocket of white coats. White coats are obligatory for sheep and goat exhibitors.

55. Numbers. The names, stall numbers and places of stalling of Cattle will be given in the Catalogue. Tickets will be forwarded for all animals. Harnesses and harness numbers will be provided for Cattle. Buttonhole Numbers corresponding with the Catalogue number of the animal, will be provided for Sheep, Goats and Pigs, and must be worn by the attendants whenever they enter the ring.

56. Assistants. Exhibitors must provide competent persons to take charge of their Stock during the entire time such stock may be upon the Society’s premises.

57. In all classes animals must be free from clinical signs of disease, injury or physical abnormality such as would affect the usefulness of the animal. Compulsory veterinary examination prior to judging will not be required but the Judges will take any such clinical signs into account when awarding prizes.

58. Identification of Ownership. No identification which might indicate the ownership of stock exhibited for prizes will be permitted. Covers will not be allowed on animals during show hours without special permission from the chief stewards

REGULATIONS SPECIFIC TO CATTLE EXHIBITORS59. In Milk Classes Animals entered in in-milk classes may where eligible be transferred to the appropriate

in-calf classes if they are uncalved at time of judging. Animals entered in in-calf classes may be where eligible transferred to the appropriate in-milk classes if they have calved at time of judging. Exhibitors are responsible for drawing the Society’s attention to this requirement where it arises.

60. Washing of Milk Cattle. All Cattle must be properly washed before being milked.

61. Milking. All Dairy Cows and heifers in milk must be milked out by 8.00 pm on the evening prior to judging to the satisfaction of the Chief Steward, or his nominee. Milk produced becomes the property of the Society and no direct payment will be made to Exhibitors. Proceeds from milk produced will be distributed to charitable or other worthy causes at the discretion of the Society.

62. Pressure Pumps. The use of pressure pumps for the washing of cattle is permitted only in the washing areas at either end of the Londonderry Hall.

63. Control of Dangerous Animals. Each bull to be exhibited must be properly secured by a chain or rope attached to a ring or screw in the nose, for which exhibitors shall be held responsible. Any animal not so secured, or considered to be in a dangerous or infuriated state, will not be admitted. Should any animal [male or female], in the opinion of the Stewards, become dangerous in the Showgrounds, it must be removed immediately, or if removal is impracticable or anyone is at risk, it shall be destroyed.

64. It is recommended that, where possible, self closing nose restraints or snaffles should be used. It is compulsory for beef females born on or after 1st January 1998 to wear a snaffle.

QUALIFICATION OF CLASSES & WITHHOLDING PRIZE MONEY65. Cows & Heifers - All Cows and Heifers aged three years old in competition must have had a live calf in 2010, or

be in calf. This requirement will not apply to Class 602. Senior heifers in the beef section may be shown in calf or with calf at foot.

66. Breeding Male Stock - Evidence will be required that all breeding male stock (except those born on or after 1st January 2003), for which prizes may be awarded, have produce offspring prior to the date of the Show. Prizes will be withheld until certificates to that effect, when required, are produced.

67. WITHHOLDING PRIZE MONEY - In all classes for cows and heifers in calf, the animal, if entered in a Beef Breed class must have calved before 31st December 2010. Prize Money may be withheld until the Breed Society’s notification of acceptance of calf for registration or a Veterinary Certificate is received as evidence that the animal has calved within the stipulated time. Such notification must be received at the Society’s Office not later than the closing date of entries for the succeeding Annual Show.

68. Tampering with Exhibits. No artificial device whatever may be adopted for the purpose of interfering with the udders of Cattle. No Cows or Heifers presented in the Judging Ring may have sealed teats. Any Exhibitor found infringing this Regulation will be disqualified from exhibiting at the Show.

JUDGING IN CATTLE CLASSES69. In the Cattle Classes the attention of the Judges will be particularly directed to the symmetry, early maturity, size,

purity of breed and general qualities characteristic of the several animals, due allowance being made for age and other circumstances. They shall not award a prize for an “overfed” animal, the object of the Society being to encourage superior animals for breeding purposes.

70. The Judges shall not attempt to draw the udders of dry cattle, and if milking cows are to be thus handled, the Judges shall wash and disinfect their hands before and after drawing each or any animal.

REGULATIONS SPECIFIC TO SHEEP71. Short Docking of Sheep. In the interests of animal welfare it is recommended that all exhibitors comply with the

animal Welfare Regulations. Sufficient tail (not wool) should be retained to cover the vulva of female sheep and the anus of male sheep. All sheep present at the Annual Show will be inspected in the pens by Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Veterinary Officers.

72. All sheep exhibitors must wear white coats in the judging ring.

73. Only sheep eligible for registration or registered with the Breed Society may be entered in the sheep classes.

74. To enable exhibitors to have maximum flexibility in selecting sheep which they wish to exhibit at the Show, the following method of making entries will be applied.

Exhibitors must book the number of pens which they wish to use during the Show, subject to a maximum of six pens per breed and pay the appropriate Penning Fee £22 (RUAS Member) £27 (Non-Member). They may then enter as many sheep as they wish at an Entry Fee of £7 (RUAS Member) or £9 (Non-Member) per animal but the number of sheep of each breed which can be brought to the Show will be limited to two sheep per pen.


75. Accommodation in the sheep fold is limited and, based on past experience; an allocation of pens per breed had been made. If, at the close of entries, the pens booked in any breed exceeds this allocation the necessary reduction in individual pen allocation will be made by the Society. When a reduction in pens has been made by the Society a refund of Penning Fee(s) will be made following the Show. Additionally there will be one refund of Entry Fee per pen reduction.

76. Each exhibitor will be limited to a maximum of 6 pens and may not bring to the Show more than 2 sheep per pen allocated.

PIGS77. VACCINATIONS REQUIRED. Aujeszky’s Disease, Blue Ear Disease and PMWS. Only pigs from officially

Aujeszky’s Disease Free (OADF) herds or equivalent are eligible for entry. Exhibitors are additionally advised that to be admitted to the Showgrounds are to be eligible for exhibition all pigs must have undergone a specially arranged serological test for Aujeszky’s and Blue Ear Disease and a Negative result obtained. Such pigs must be kept in isolation for a minimum period of 14 days prior to the blood sample being taken and remain in isolation until being brought to the Showgrounds and exhibitors will be required to complete a Declaration to that effect. Certificate of Negative Result must be produced at time of entry to the Showgrounds with the Declaration of Isolation. Pigs should be isolated on return to the farm and check tested before being re-introduced to the herd. Pigs will not be allowed to gain entrance to the Showgrounds unless the necessary veterinary certificates are produced on arrival. Exhibitors will be responsible for the cost levied by the Department of Agriculture for the processing of these tests.

78. PEDIGREE DETAILS (BRITISH PIG ASSOCIATION). Pedigree details of pigs entered will not appear in the catalogue and are not required at time of entry. Particulars of pigs must be produced to stewards on arrival as ear numbers will be checked with the BPA to confirm age and ensure eligibility for the class entered.

80. DEPARTURE OF EXHIBITS Wednesday, 11th May, by 5.00pm as directed by Stewards Brood Mares and Foals, Yearlings, Two/Three-years-old, Hunters (except Champion Reserve Champion and first

prize winners in each class).

Thursday, 12th May, after 6.00pm as directed by Stewards Cobs, Ladies’ Hunters, Riding Horses, Trade Turnouts, Hackneys, Private Driving and Miniature Horses.

Friday, 13th May, after 3.00pm as directed by Stewards Clydesdales, Farm Carts, Working Hunter Horses, Ponies.

No horse may be removed from the Show before the time stated for departure except in the case of illness requiring immediate veterinary treatment. To obtain permission to remove a horse in such circumstances, contact should be made with a senior member of RUAS staff or the chief steward, who will have the horse examined by the Veterinary Surgeon appointed for that purpose; and on his certifying that the horse is ill, and that the necessary veterinary treatment cannot be delayed without serious risk of damage to the animal and recommending its removal, the owner will be furnished with the necessary paperwork to leave the Showgrounds.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY81. No entry will be accepted unless the colour and sex of the animal are stated on the Entry Form.

82. All horses entered must be the bona fide property of the person in whose name the entry is made.

83. The ages of all horses competing to be calculated from 1st January, except in the case of yearlings, when the date of birth must be given at the time of entry. The age of three year old horses entered in the Breeding & Young Stock section will be verified before entering the judging ring and the age of four year old horses entered in the hunter section will be verified by a veterinary surgeon when the exhibits are lined up in the judging ring.

84. Each Exhibitor of a horse, for which a prize has been awarded must be prepared, when required by the Council, to make a statutory declaration that the conditions and regulations affecting such horse have been complied with, otherwise the prize shall lapse to the Society.

85. Passports must accompany all horses and be available for inspection.

MERIT OF AWARDS IN THE COMBINED THOROUGHBRED AND NON THOROUGHBRED CLASSES (BREEDING AND YOUNG STOCK SECTION)86. In the Breeding and Young stock section, if a thoroughbred is placed 6th or above in the final line up, they will

be awarded the 1st prize rosettes for being the highest placed thoroughbred in the class. If however, the highest placed thoroughbred is 7th place or below they would not merit the 1st prize rosette. This is based on an entry of 14 horses forward in the class. If there are 20 or more horses forward then the highest places thoroughbred up to 10th place would be awarded the 1st prize rosette.

ELIGIBILITY OF RIDERS87. In order to establish that riders of ponies are of the correct age for the class entered it will be the responsibility of

the exhibitor to ensure that the birth certificate of the rider is available for inspection by the stewards if requested.

NUMBERS88. Back numbers, corresponding with the Catalogue number of the animal will be provided, and must be worn by

the grooms or riders, or, in the case of harness horses, on the back of the carriages, whenever they enter the judging ring.

HEALTH DECLARATION & VACCINATIONS89. Exhibitors in the Horse Section must make a written declaration to the effect that each animal entered by

them is free from contagious or infectious disease including Equine Influenza. No animal will be admitted to the Showgrounds without such declaration. In addition, each animal may be examined, on arrival at the Showgrounds, by a veterinary surgeon appointed by the Society, before being permitted to occupy its loose box or at any other time during the Show.

90. Vaccination against Equine Influenza - All exhibits (except foals under six months of age) must be properly vaccinated against Equine Influenza in accordance with the Rules laid down by the FEI and the necessary Veterinary Certificate to be available for inspection on arrival at the Showgrounds or at any other time during the Show.

RANDOM DOPE TESTING91. The Society reserves the right to drug test any Exhibit on the Society’s premises and/or take blood/urine samples

from any such Exhibit. Should the sample taken prove positive on analysis for a prohibited substance, the Exhibit will be disqualified.

92. The Society will carry out random dope tests at this years Balmoral Show.

a. The selection of animals for testing is to be decided by the Chairman of Horse Committee and the Referee judge and they will decide, in advance of the Show, the classes and placing to be tested.

b. Tests will be carried out by the Society’s appointed veterinary surgeon and a steward will accompany the veterinary surgeon when tests are being taken.

GROOMS93. If any groom be absent from his horse at the time of judging, the horse will be liable to be excluded from

competition.

DRESS94. Each rider and groom must be correctly dressed and riders of exhibits are required to wear protective headgear

at all times when the exhibits are being ridden. All exhibitors are encouraged to wear recommended protective headgear to BSI standard with chin strap but in the Working Hunter Horse classes and in the Ridden and Working Hunter Children’s Pony classes, exhibitors must wear a riding hat complying with the current British Standard with safety harnesses fitted and correctly fastened. This will apply both in the judging ring and in practice/warm up areas. For Ridden and Working Hunter ponies this will also apply at any other time when ponies are ridden within the Showgrounds. Exhibitors not complying with this Regulation will be disqualified.

STABLING/BEDDING95. Loose boxes (3m x 3m) for the stabling of horses and ponies (except ridden ponies, hackneys and private driving

exhibits) will be provided. Straw will be supplied free of charge for bedding and straw tickets will be forwarded for each animal. Exhibitors are requested to note that the Society does not take charge of or feed any animals.

96. Grooms in charge of horses remaining in the Showgrounds overnight must be in attendance at 7am each morning to clean out the loose boxes.

97. No horse may be stabled in a loose box other than that allocated to it by Society Officials.

98. No horse will be allowed out of its loose box, except by order of one of the Stewards of the class, or a senior member of staff.

EXERCISING99. Ridden horses will be allowed to exercise in the defined exercising area in Ring 1 provided the chief steward or

senior staff are satisfied that the ground is in fit condition.

100. Led horses will be allowed to exercise in the defined exercising area in Ring 2 before and at the conclusion of judging.

101. The exercising of horses in the main Arena is strictly prohibited.

102. The exercising or examination of horse on the paths or roadways is strictly forbidden.

PARADES103. A Parade of Prizewinning Young Stock horses will take place in rings 1 and 2 on Wednesday 11th May and

Hunter horses will take place in the Arena on Thursday, 12th May at the time stated in the programme and, in addition to the Champion and Reserve Champion in each section, the first three placed horses in each class [first prizewinners only for yearling classes], will be required to participate.

104. On Friday 13th May there will be a Parade of Prizewinning Clydesdale horses in the Arena at the time stated in the programme with the Champion, Reserve Champion and first three placed exhibits in each class required to participate. Exhibitors will be advised of the collection arrangements for Parades at the time of the presentation of class prizes.

105. If an animal be absent from a Parade without good reason, the exhibitor is liable to forfeit the prize or prizes won by the animal.

MEASUREMENT OF HORSES AND COBS. 106. Horses in classes 32 & 33 and all cobs not in possession of a JMB current measurement certificate issued

in Northern Ireland or a current SJAI measurement certificate will be measured prior to being permitted to compete. All Measurement Certificates must fully identify the animal to which they relate and must show that the Measurement has been made by a Veterinarian appointed by the issuing Authority and a Measurement Certificate relating to any animal aged eight years or under must show that the Measurement has been made in the current calendar year. Horses and Cobs shall be measured [1 cm being allowed for shoes] in a natural position to the satisfaction of the official measurer and shod as exhibited on the day. No person but the official measurer will be allowed to measure any animal.

MEASUREMENT OF PONIES. 107. Ponies not in possession of a JMB current measurement certificate issued in Northern Ireland or a current SJAI

or IPS measurement certificate or a certificate issued or approved by the FEI or issued by a National Federation affiliated to the FEI or a Certificate issued by a Society or Scheme approved by such National Federation will be measured prior to being permitted to compete. All Measurement Certificates must fully identify the animal to which they relate and must show that the Measurement has been made by a Veterinarian appointed by the issuing Authority and a Measurement Certificate relating to any animal aged eight years or under must show that the Measurement has been made in the current calendar year, provided that all valid FEI Life Certificates shall be accepted. All ponies without Measurement Certificates which comply with this Regulation, the height of which is relevant to their eligibility will be subject to measurement by the Society’s Veterinary Surgeons on the day of competition and shall be measured [1cm being allowed for shoes] in a natural position to the satisfaction of the official measurer and shod as exhibited on the day. No person but the official measurer will be allowed to measure any animal.

FARM CARTS. 108. The Vehicles, Harness, and other apparatus will be taken into consideration by the Judges.

TACK. 109. Exhibitors of Ridden Ponies are not obliged to use double bridles.

110. To ensure that the exhibitors have full control of horses, ‘bits’ should be worn at all times when leading or riding animals

UNNACPETALE BEHAVIOUR111. Forms of cruel, inhumane or abusive treatment of horses or ponies, including, but not limited to, the various

forms of rapping, are strictly forbidden in all areas of the Showgrounds.

REFUNDS112. 50% of the entry fee will be refunded (Classes 13 to 36) where an animal is cancelled from all classes in which it

is entered before 12noon on Wednesday 4th May 2011.

POULTRY AND PIGEONS, EGGSRABBITS & CAVIES

113. Arrival of Exhibits Poultry & Pigeons Eggs, Rabbits & Cavies. Birds may arrive at the Showgrounds on Tuesday, 10th May between 2.00pm and 8.00 pm hall to be cleared by 8.30pm. No entries will be permitted to be delivered on Wednesday morning, the day of judging. Arrival of Decorated Eggs. Monday 9th May from 5.00pm and 7.00pm. No entries will be permitted to be delivered on Tuesday morning the day of judging.

114. Removal of Exhibits. No exhibit may be removed until the close of the Show except on the written authority of the Chief Steward. The Poultry Hall and Rabbit Hall will be closed to the public at 8.00 pm on Friday, 13th May, and Exhibitors should collect their exhibits before 8.30pm on Friday evening or Saturday morning between 10.00am 12.00 noon. (Exhibits may be placed in hampers from 7.30pm on Friday evening]. Special cards will be issued, enabling exhibitors to claim their eggs. These cards, signed by exhibitors, must in all cases be presented to the official in charge of the Section, when exhibits are being claimed.

115. RABBITS - Entry Limit. Entries will be restricted to the first 100 Rabbits.

116. Exhibit Number - Exhibit numbers will be supplied and must be securely fastened to each exhibit.

117. Restricted access during Judging - During judging, access to the Poultry Hall and Rabbit Hall will be restricted to Judges and Stewards.

118. Exhibitors in the poultry section will not be permitted to place any advertising or evidence of ownership of exhibits on their cages.

119. ‘For Sale’ signs are not permitted on pens of exhibits.

120. Vaccinations Required. Unhealthy birds forwarded for exhibition will be returned immediately to the exhibitor, and the entry fee paid forfeit. It is recommended that all birds entered for the Show are vaccinated against Newcastle disease.

All pigeons entered must be vaccinated with the Paramyxo Vaccine not less than 2 weeks before the date of the Show – Certificates of vaccination must be produced to the chief steward on arrival at the Poultry Hall.

121. Feeding of Exhibits. The exhibits will be fed by the exhibitor, steward or an appointed competent person. Under no circumstances will any person be allowed to interfere with an exhibit, without the permission of the Stewards.

122. Exclusion of Liability. The most careful arrangements are made for the proper accommodation of all exhibits, but any loss or damage sustained , whether arising from accident, fire, wrong delivery, or from any other cause must be borne by the exhibitors, the exhibits being penned and exhibited at the exhibitors own risk.

123. Disposal of eggs laid - To minimise any risk of disease spread, all eggs laid by exhibits will be destroyed.

124. Fraudulent Practices. The Judges will be instructed to disqualify and report to the Chief Steward any exhibit which they may detect to have been artificially trimmed, coloured, [except Minorcas] or otherwise unfairly dealt with.

125. Exclusion of Liability. The most careful arrangements are made for the proper accommodation of all exhibits, but any loss or damage sustained , whether arising from accident, fire, wrong delivery, or from any other cause must be borne by the exhibitors, the exhibits being penned and exhibited at the exhibitors own risk. In no case will the Society be responsible for the safe delivery or dispatch of exhibits.
