2018 SESSION DATES Senate Calendar
• August 1, 2017 Deadline for filing claim bills (Rule 4.81(2))
• November 17, 2017 5:00 p.m., deadline for submitting requests for drafts of general bills and joint resolutions, including requests for companion bills
• January 5, 2018 5:00 p.m., deadline for approving final drafts of general bills and joint resolutions, including companion bills
• January 9, 2018 Regular Session convenes (Article III, section 3(b), Constitution)
• 12:00 noon, deadline for filing bills for introduction (Rule 3.7(1))
• February 24, 2018 All bills are immediately certified (Rule 6.8)
• Motion to reconsider made and considered the same day (Rule 6.4(4))
• February 27, 2018 50th day—last day for regularly scheduled committee meetings (Rule 2.9(2))
• March 9, 2018 60th day—last day of Regular Session (Article III, section 3(d), Constitution)

Florida Legislature By the Numbers
• Gov. Rick Scott ceremonially started the session January 9th when he delivered the annual State of the State speech to lawmakers.
• 60-day session is scheduled to end March 9.
• 120 Representatives in the House – R76-D40 (4 seats vacant)
• 40 Senators – R23-D15 (2 seats vacant)
Florida Legislature By the Numbers cont.
• 3,161 pieces of legislation on file — counting resolutions, memorials to Congress and actual proposed laws. Normally expect 1,800.
• Approximately 300 will reach the governor’s desk.
• 1,801 Registered Lobbyists. That’s more than 10 for every lawmaker in the House and Senate.

approves it or fails to sign or veto it within the
period specified in the State Constitution. An
act can also become a law when a subsequent
legislature overrides a veto by the Governor.
