MILLINOCKET LITTLE LEAGUETo All Participants and Spectators of the 2014 Maine District 3 9 & 10 Year Old All-Star Tournament:

On behalf Millinocket Little League, it is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Kedderis Field and Millinocket for the 2014 Maine District 3 9 & 10 Year Old All-Star Tournament. This marks the third time Millinocket Little League has had the privilege of hosting this event, and all of the tournament volunteers are excited about three great weeks of baseball as 13 teams vie for the right to represent District 3 at the state tournament in Auburn.

Millinocket Little League was founded in 1953 and like much of the region has experienced great change during the last six decades. The league currently has approximately 150 participants ages 5-12 from throughout the Katahdin Region playing on a total of 11 teams in Farm League, Minor League and Major League. Millinocket Little League has developed a working partnership with the East Millinocket, Medway and Millinocket Recreation Department to be the sole provider of youth baseball in the Katahdin Region. Participation in the league is open to all area children and it is the region’s largest youth sports organization.

The tournament site, Kedderis Field, is named in honor of the league’s long-time PA announcer and official scorekeeper, Bob Kedderis. Today Bob’s son, John Kedderis, is keeping alive his father’s tradition and is in his 25th year of volunteer service to Millinocket Little League. Kedderis Field is maintained entirely by league volunteers.

The ultimate goal of the tournament volunteers and organizers is for all participants to have an en-joyable experience as they represent their home Little League. At the ages of 9 and 10, many of these youngsters are participating on a tournament team for the first time in their Little League careers. We strive to make this a positive, memorable time for everyone involved and ask that all adult volunteers and spectators join us in this effort. Please practice good sportsmanship at all times, cheer good plays by participants on all teams and support the decisions of the volunteer umpires.

In addition to baseball, we hope you will use your time in the Katahdin Region to enjoy the multitude of summertime offerings available to visitors. A number of lakes are a short drive from Millinocket, and Baxter State Park is 30-minute drive north along the Millinocket Lake Road. Within town, the Jerry Pond Recreation Area is located minutes from the field and the Michael Michaud Walking and Biking Trail, a 1.65-mile loop through Millinocket, can be found in back of the first-base bleachers.

If you have any questions or need anything to make your experience in Millinocket a more enjoy-able one, please do not hesitate to contact any of the tournament volunteers.

Good Luck, Have Fun, Play Ball!

Welcome to MillinocketGood Luck to ALL Little League Teams!

From the Millinocket Town Council

Just a kidStanding at the plate with their heart pounding fast; the bases are loaded; the die has been cast. Mom and Dad can not help; they stand all alone. A hit at this moment would send the team home. The ball nears the plate; a swing and a miss. There’s a groan from the crowd, with some boo’s and hiss. “Strike out the bum!” is heard from the crowd. Tears fill their eyes; the games no longer fun. Remember- just a kid standing all alone. So open your heart and give em a break. Keep this in mind when you hear someone forget. They’re just little kids, not adults yet.
