Boat house interior view. The boat house’s structural system consists of standard steel mill shapes fastened together with rivets (left). Walls and ceiling are sheathed with ferrocement shear panels (see detail at right).

Huron NWR-Hazardous materials building (oil house), 1896. (10047820). The oil house provided safe storage for fuels used to light the beacon. With brick walls, a metal roof and cornice, and a sheet iron door, the building is fireproof. The roof is capped with a ventilator that allowed flammable vapors to escape.
