LONG TERM PLAN Year 7 2020 - 2021 English Maths Science RE I.C.T P.E and Friday Activities AUTUMN 1 Unit 1: Short Stories The students will read and compare short stories with a similar theme. The students will learn about the context of ‘An Alpine Divorce’ and ‘Landlady’ and make inferences and predictions about each. They will compare the stories, exploring similar themes. The students will also read and perform short stories with a twist. The students will focus on characterization, setting and plot. In SPAG: Revision of nouns, pronouns, verbs, adverbs and adjectives and basic punctuation. Number Understand and use place value for decimals and integers of any size. Use mental and written methods for the four operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Identify prime numbers, square and cube numbers, square and cube roots and factors and multiples. Fractions, Decimals and Percentages. Becoming a Scientist Learning about safe working and laboratory skills. Identifying hazards in a chemical laboratory. Using a Bunsen burner. Reading temperatures Identifying laboratory equipment. AUTUMN 2 Unit 2: Novel focus

In this unit the students

will read and study the

novel, ‘Squirm’ By Carl

Hiaasen, (2018). It is a

funny, adventurous and

contemporary novel, set

in Florida and Montana.

The story focusses on

Billy, a 12-year-old boy

fascinated by snakes,

who sets out on an

adventure to find his

missing father. The novel

explores the theme of

identity. We will focus

on comprehension skills,

research skills,

persuasive writing and

creative writing.

throughout the book, is

the importance of

friendship.
