AROUND SCHOOL!

Volume 1, Issue 12 – April/May, 2013 Page 2

EARTH DAY PROJECTS

On April 22 , AGBU MDS kicked off Earth Day with various, fun and educational projects.

First grade sponsored the Recycle Relay, a very energetic way to recycle and reuse items!

Second graders in Mrs. Lorena’s class used the Dr. Seuss' book, "The Lorax" to show the

importance of conservation. Students then wrote a paragraph entitled "What can we do to be

kind to the Earth?"

The Kindergarteners and Fifth Grade buddies watched a short

documentary called Landfill Harmonic, which focuses on a small

town in Paraguay whose community creates musical

instruments from its trash. This is a very poor town and they have

learned to create something beautiful from nothing. We

challenged our students, in honor of Earth Day, to work together

to create their own musical instruments from their own recyclable materials. The students

lived up to the challenge and

demonstrated their creativity flawlessly. Please click on the link below to see why the students were inspired to do

this! Landfill Harmonic

Parent Satisfaction Survey

Thank you in advance for completing the Parent Satisfaction Survey. It closes May 30, so there is still time to com-

plete it if you have not already done so. The purpose of the survey is to measure the extent to which our parents

feel our school is meeting their child’s needs and how successfully we are achieving our Mission. Please take the time

to complete the survey on Survey Monkey. All surveys are anonymous. Your time in doing this is greatly appreciated.

If we have a representative number of surveys submitted, we will be able to disseminate the results to you in the

Fall.

ART FOR EDUCATION For the second year in a row, our students participated in the Artwork for Education Program!

Proceeds from this year’s funds were allocated to the Preschool and Elementary music

divisions. The school purchased rhythmic instruments, a keyboard and music posters to be

used by all the students. The students are very excited and are enjoying using these

instruments with the guidance of their music teacher Ms. Arus Andreassian.

Our sincerest gratitude goes to Dr. Odet Gevorgian and Mrs. Melina Ghotanian for their hard work in organizing this

program. We appreciate the fact that they understand and know how valuable and important music is in all of our lives.

MUSIC EXTRAS

On Tuesday, May 21st, the Recorder Club students had a recital for their parents after

school. The students were well prepared and very enthusiastic. They had worked very hard

with their teacher Ms. Arus Andreassian. Congratulations to them!

On Wednesday, May 22nd the Glee Club students had a wonderful performance for their

parents after school when they performed a program consisting of eight Armenian and

English songs. It was an uplifting experience for all.

Congratulations to them and their teacher Ms. Arus Andreassian.
