THE CODING SPACE
The Coding Space is an after-school and summer program where students learn to tackle challenges
independently through learning to code.
Students work on projects in either Scratch or JavaScript and can choose which projects are
appropriate for their level. Our teachers then make sure that students are engaged as well as
challenged by what they’re working on.
Our classes are run using The Socratic Method -- we ask students questions that lead them to figuring
out answers on their own. Rather than giving students answers, we encourage them to learn the
skills and tactics needed to independently problem solve.
By providing students with challenging projects and a space where they are in charge of their own
learning, our students develop their intellectual confidence, a growth mindset, and computational
thinking skills.

Everyone is going Gaga for Gaga!
The Gaga Center is bringing Gaga to Ramaz for 1st and 2nd graders! Gaga is a fast-paced high-energy sport played in an octagonal pit. The more kids the better! Played with a soft foam ball, this game combines the skills of dodging, striking, running, and jumping while trying to hit opponents with a ball below the knees. Players need to keep moving to avoid getting hit by the ball. Fun and easy, all children get a serious workout. Gaga instructors will get the kids moving with a warm up, followed by a quick strategy lesson-the game is simple but there are some cool tricks to learn. Let the games begin! The rounds move quickly; they are usually complete in less than five minutes. Once the game ends, everyone is back in for the next round. Before kids think twice, they are working up a sweat, jumping in and out of the pits. Ga...Ga...Go!
Mondays: Grades 1-2 Fee $516
Even Nursery students are going Gaga for Gaga!

Fun and easy, the game has lots of movement and keeps little ones smiling! Gaga instructors tailor the game for young players and teach variations using lots of colorful balls and paddles for extra fun! The sessions will also include a cool down story time and other surprises!

Ben Hyman Music Guitar Course: 2nd-4th grade – 5-6 students 2nd-4th grade: $675 including $25 snack fee We will be meeting on Tuesdays with 11 sessions planned We all know it’s cool to play guitar, but learning guitar is more than just street cred. Learning guitar helps students develop many skills needed in life including, concentration, determination, and that hard-work pays off in the end. Even though guitar is one of the most popular instruments it’s also one of the most difficult to play. Unfortunately, more often than not, this instrument is not taught correctly resulting in improper technique which hinders the student’s progress and can result in actual injury. This course is designed to take the student through the basic fundamentals of playing (proper left and right hand technique, proper picking and strumming technique, chords and basic rhythm.) ensuring that they reach their full potential on the instrument. Most students who take this course continue with private instruction afterward. If you've taken lessons previously, please contact us before signing up. Music is best learned in small classes, space is limited. We will be taking a maximum of 6 students.

Dear Parents Grades K-4,
Ramaz is proud to continue to offer our exciting after-school chess program for your children. Students will learn the rules of the game, how to move the pieces, chess notation and other basic
fundamentals. Students who already know chess basics will learn opening ideas and formations as well as different traps and checkmate patterns.
In a study by Stuart Margulies Ph.D., it was found that chess play developed analytic skills, self-control, and an increased ability to concentrate. Enhanced reading skills naturally followed. Participants in a scholastic chess program also developed higher levels of self-esteem as they increased their chess competence. These are precisely the tools required to help our students to excel in life.
The program, now in its 29th year at Ramaz, has developed a chess team, creating opportunities for the students to compete in regularly scheduled tournaments within the Yeshiva chess circuit, and other Championship Tournaments.
Trophies will be awarded to all students at the end of the semester. The instructors for this program are from Tri-State Chess, the organization founded by National
Chess Master Mark Kurtzman, which has been working in cooperation with The Board of Jewish Education Department of Yeshivot and Day Schools, to bring you the C.I.T.Y. program: Chess In The Yeshivot.
Program Founder & Director and U.S. National Master Mark Kurtzman will once again teach the top level class in the after school program at Ramaz!
Tri-State Chess and their C.I.T.Y. program, is currently developing chess teams through teaching after-school programs at Manhattan Day School (NYC), S A R Academy (Riverdale,NY) and Beit Rabban (NYC), to name a few.

enjoy ensemble singing and gain confidence in
vocal performance as they perform
throughout the year. Their choral repertoire
includes English, Secular, Hebrew and Jewish
music. They sing canons and learn to sing in
two and three-part harmony. This is a fun
opportunity for the children to fine tune their
vocal skills and sing with fellow students. We

their best to ensure that each child is utilizing
their time productively by focusing on their
homework. While some students may be able
to complete all of their written homework

done at home with an adult), it is highly
dependent on the individual child. Parents are
reminded to confirm with their child at home
whether all homework has been completed.

and knowing it.'" Overall, mindfulness
provides students with healthy ways to
express, balance, and regulate their thoughts,
emotions, and behaviors. Mindfulness also
promotes a relaxed and comfortable way of
being
