StructureScan™ Press Launch

Here a wreck located off a slipway can be seen in both DownScan™ and

SideScan. The clarity and depth of field achieved in the DownScan™ imaging

clearly shows the height and shape of the wreck.

The view from above the waterline shows the slipway and position of the

boat above the wreck.

Heading out after lunch on a selection of boats kindly supplied by the Finnish

Lowrance distributor OPM and fitted with new Lowrance StructureScan™.

Already everyone is stunned by the clarity of imaging on screen.

Onboard you can clearly see StructureScan™ working on the left HDS unit

with charting on the right. Aboard each boat we had a product expert

demonstrating the new equipment to the journalists.

In September Helsinki played host to the official EMEA Lowrance StructureScan™ press launch.

We invited 25 of Europe’s most influential fishing journalists to come and experience what the new StructureScan™ Sonar Imaging has to offer all anglers, from

professionals to first timers. During the two day, on-the-water event the journalists were able to test the full range of StructureScan™’ features including the revolutionary

DownScan™ that blew them away.

Day 1The guests received a warm welcome in the form of a superb lunch and

introductory presentation at a historic venue on a small island just off

Helsinki.

Whilst out amongst the islands off Helsinki we discovered a variety of

wrecks and under water obstructions. StructureScan™ helped us find and

clearly identify the obstructions as well as the marine life surrounding them.

“It’s like having a pair of eyes under the water.” Dave Lewis – Sea Angler Magazine, UK

“This is true imaging and very easy to see what is under the water.”

Nicolo Volpati – Pescare Mare, Italy“Incredibly easy, it’s completely intuitive; it’s almost like looking at a photograph.”

Tim Bartlett – Motor Boat Monthly, UK

This image shows the clarity in which we viewed sunken military barricades

dating back to the Russian Revolution. Bottom right shows a Broadband™

echosounder screen with DownScan™ overlay.

The scenery didn’t fail to impress and there were plenty of points of interest.

This area obviously had some military background that provided us with

some really great underwater examples.

Using an alternative colour palette, we viewed the same structure from a

slightly different angle. Here in the top right you can see both the cables

coming from the obstruction as well as a bait fish ball far right.

It is safe to say that everyone was mesmerised by what we were seeing.

Having two HDS units aboard allowed us to get the whole picture.

We came across this old wreck using SideScan. You can see how defined

the stringers in the hull are and the shadow gives us a 3D effect, showing

how far this obstruction sits off the seabed.

Helsinki is well known for being a popular stop over for cruise ships and in

these busy waters it is important to have good navigation equipment and a

clear idea of what is below you.

Get the whole picture.

I think it’s the definition, the picture is fantastic, it’s almost like watching television.

Nigel Botherway – The Sunday Times Angling Correspondent, UK

It’s going to revolutionise diving and will do the same for fishing.

Tim Bartlett – Motor Boat Monthly, UK

The competition was on and these guys knew what they were doing... Lowrance Pro Angling Team - on-hand to offer helpful fishing tips!!!

The first location looked promising as we could clearly identify fish of

differing sizes below the boat.

The view showed a sunken rowing boat in SideScan™ and with the

DownScan™ overlay, visible here in the top right, you can see a large bait ball

with predator fish to the left.

The first catch - it was a small Perch and not that large Pike we were hoping

for, however it was early days and others were to be more successful.

Jo’s Big Catch - It was so heavy that she needed assistance to bring it in.

Unfortunately when it surfaced it became clear that she had in fact hooked a

plank! Better luck next time.

Day 2 The second day brought sunshine for our fishing competition, where the

journalists were given the opportunity to take to the water, fishing rod in

hand and compete to catch the largest fish and win an outstanding prize.

This gave our guests the chance to practically apply what they had learnt

from StructureScan™ the day before.

This is true imaging and very easy to see what is under the water.

The hunt continued and by lunchtime the game was won... Sunday Times UK Angling Correspondent Nigel Botherway hooked himself

a good sized Pike to take the competition and win a sportsfishing trip around

Florida. It goes without saying that he was a very happy fisherman.

Overall the event was a great success and a lot was learnt by all who attended. Every one of the journalists came away having experienced a revolution in fishfinding and for the first time had got the whole picture, their comments speak for themselves...

“It gives you a far better overall view of what is going on, certainly better than conventional downward looking sonar does - putting the two together is mind blowing.”

Tim Bartlett – Motor Boat Monthly, UK

“It’s a major advantage that you can see straight down below the boat; there has been nothing on the market like it until now.”

Rudy Van Duijnhoven – Beet, Holland

“It’s going to make people better anglers. It’s a very special piece of kit, I am very impressed. “
