3. How about the antecedent? What is an antecedent? 4. How about an agreement? What do we mean when we

say agreement based on your examples a while back? 5. Intellectual discussion:

*As a BASIC RULE, a pronoun and its antecedent must agree in person, number and gender.

a) Let’s start with person. What do we mean with person? Why do we need to know the person?

b) In sentence #1, where are the pronoun and the antecedent? Do they agree with each other? How did you say so?

c) How about in sentence #2, where is the pronoun and its antecedent? Do they agree with each other? How did you say so?

d) What did you notice in sentences #1 and #2? Considering the person, what can you conclude in the agreement between the pronoun and its antecedent?

Page 3: Lp for 2nd actual off

we say number? Why is it important to know the number? i) In sentence # 6, where is the pronoun and its

antecedent? Do they agree with each other? What did you notice with the antecedent? Is the antecedent a pronoun? What type of pronoun is it? Do they agree with each other (pronoun and antecedent). How did you say so? (same discussion with sentence #s 7 to 9 )

j) Considering the number and the type of pronoun, what can you conclude in the agreement between the pronoun and its antecedent?

k) Let’s proceed with compound antecedents, (still on the number). What are compound antecedents?

l) In sentence #10, where is the pronoun and its antecedent? Do they agree with each other? How did you say so? (same discussion with sentence #11 )

m) Considering the compound antecedents, what can you conclude in the agreement between the pronoun and its antecedent?

n) Take a look at sentence #12, what can you notice? Where are the pronoun and its antecedent? Do they agree with each other? How did you say so? (same discussion with sentence #13)

o) Considering the compound antecedents joined by either-or and neither-nor, what can you conclude in the agreement between the pronoun and its antecedent?

p) How about sentence # 14, what can you notice? Where are the pronoun and its antecedent? Do they agree with each other? How did you say so? (same discussion with sentence #15)

q) Considering the collective nouns, what can you conclude in the agreement between the pronoun and its antecedent?

Did you understand? Do you have any question?

C.DEEPEN 1. What is the importance of knowing the pronoun-antecedent agreement? How can you apply it in your daily lives? 2.
