This course will challenge you to consider your own leadership characteristics and techniques in the context of robust analytic frameworks:

1. A personal approachBy using a detailed self-assessment and a 360° leadership assessment, we discuss leadership from participants’ own viewpoints. In-class activities and a one-to-one coaching session provide opportunities to examine your leadership from an evidence-based, benchmarked perspective as well as a personal one.

2. Reflection and growthThrough personal reflection on leadership styles, and by engaging in discussion with peers and faculty in class, you will gain in-depth insights into your personal leadership styles. You can use these insights to develop a nuanced perspective on how you can achieve leadership excellence.

3. Leadership in contextUnderstanding the mutual influence of leaders on organisations, and organisations on leaders, is critical to leadership effectiveness. Application of theory and research enables you to develop a rigorous approach to leadership that transforms your teams and your organisation.

Dr Connson LockeDr Connson Locke joined the LSE Department of Management in 2008 where she teaches Leadership and Organisational Behaviour. Before entering academia, she worked for 16 years as

an educator, manager, and consultant in the United States and Asia Pacific. Previously, she served as Regional Training and Development Manager for the Boston Consulting Group where she was responsible for the learning and development of consulting staff in 10 offices across Asia Pacific. Connson was awarded the LSE Department of Management’s Outstanding Teaching Contribution Award in 2013. Connson holds a PhD and MSc in Organisational Behaviour from the University of California, Berkeley and a BA in Sociology from Harvard University where she graduated with honours. She has worked in nearly 20 countries across Europe, Asia Pacific, North America, and Australia. Her research interests include gender and leadership, nonverbal communication, and organisational culture.

Dr Emma SoaneDr Emma Soane joined the Organisational Behaviour group at LSE in September 2008. Emma is interested in how personality influences leadership, interpersonal interactions, risk taking

and engagement with work. Emma has a BSc Psychology (University of Leicester), an MSc Occupational Psychology and a PhD in Psychology (University of Sheffield). She is a Chartered Psychologist and a Chartered Scientist. Emma worked in several NHS mental health and learning disability services before joining London Business School then Kingston Business School. She has travelled and worked in more than 40 countries. While at LSE, Emma has been the Programme Director for the MSc Management, the Academic Director of the CEMS MSc International Management, and taught leadership and organisational behaviour courses to postgraduates and executives. Emma also teaches on the TRIUM programme and the Executive Global MSc Management.
