Working Group Composition
(based on responses at the AGNA Meeting in September 2011 in Montreal)
▫ Lead Organizations – NCVO and CODE-NGO▫ Active Participants – Imagine Canada, VANI
(India), ADA-NGO (Jamaica), NFN (Nepal), ANCB (Afghanistan), JACO (Japan), Alianza ONG (Dominican Republic), CEMEFI (Mexico)

Working Group Plans 1) Participate in the Advisory Committee that Civicus – LTA Program is establishing (starting Oct 2011) 2) Help motivate AGNA members to participate
meaningfully in the survey and 2 regional consultations on CSO Self Regulation and the development of the toolkit being planned by the LTA Program
(starting Oct 2011) 3) Raise awareness and get inputs/suggestions by
organizing 2 or 3 webinars based on the results of the survey and regional consultations and the work on the Self Regulation Toolkit (February – August 2012)
Actual Activities
1) Workshop on Strengthening LTA of the Civil Society Sector (Dec 14-15, 2012, Manila)
-co-organized by Civicus, PCNC and CODE-NGO
-participants from JACO-Japan, NFN-Nepal, VANI-India, CEMEFI-Mexico, Imagine Canada, NANGO-Zimbabwe, PCP-Pakistan, Guidestar-Korea, and Philippine CSOs (plus: 2nd day – Philippine government agencies, WB, ADB)
2) E-mail exchange with new LTA Program Coordinator of Civicus (starting June 2012)
-case studies for Civicus LTA Guide on Self Regulation
-possible regional workshop on LTA in South America
Highlights from Manila Workshop
Key Elements for Successful CS Self-Regulation:
1) Broad stakeholder involvement from formative stage
2) Strong credibility of “self-regulation/certifying body”
3) Positive relationship between SR and government – recognized/supported by government, but independent/autonomous
4) Clear benefits for CSOs
5) Accompanying capacity building program for CSOs
6) Strong system for monitoring and evaluation, and public reporting
7) Vibrant promotional/public communication program
