Couple held for selling 40 cars theytook on rent

as film production manager)and his wife Bhuvaneswari(40), who conned a number ofcar owners by offering themlucrative rental deals and thenselling off their vehicles, werearrested by the city police onWednesday.

Police said that the couplewho were residents of K. K.Nagar sold nearly 40 vehicleswithout the consent of theirowners.

They managed to get a num-ber of cars including high-endsedans on rent by placing at-

tractive advertisements indailies.

Subramani used to rent outthese cars to film artists andproduction houses.

The couple sold 40 of theserented cars at cheaper rateswith the promise to the buyersof producing the original docu-ments and registering them ata later date.

If an owner asked them toreturn the car, they would tellthat it was in use and wouldoffer another car for the timebeing.

Police said that the fraudcame to light when one of theowners spotted his car in thecity and on intercepting it, wastold by the driver that he hadpurchased it secondhand re-cently.

He then lodged a complaintwith Anna Salai Police Sta-tion.

The couple were arrested andremanded to judicial custody.

by Chennai Corporation, thework on the pedestrian and two-wheeler subway under theRangarajapuram flyover inKodambakkam will beginsoon.

It will connect Mambalamwith Kodambakkam.

The subway which will be100 meters long will be built ata cost of Rs. 1.4 crores.

There used to be a mannedrailway crossing at this spotwhich was removed two yearsago for the construction ofthe flyover.

The construction of thesubway was delayed be-cause Rangarajapuram fly-over itself faced major delaysand was opened only in Octo-ber 2012.

The new subway will allowtwo-way traffic of pedestriansand two-wheelers.

The construction is expectedto be completed within ninemonths.

Unauthorised parking of buses hampers trafficBy Our Staff Reporter

Private buses are regularlyparked on both sides of Burkit Suresh (25), who was on the

run, was arrested in T. Nagaron Friday for stabbing to deathhis father-in-law Manikandanand grievously attacking hismother-in-law Savithri andwife Nishanthi in Teynampeton Jan. 19.

His friend who helped him incommitting the crime was laterarrested. According to the po-lice, Suresh got married toNishanthini 2 years ago.

Manikandan only later cameto know that his son-in-lawSuresh was an alcoholic and ahistory-sheeter and often gotarrested for crimes.

So Nishanthini and her 4-month-old son were living inManikandan’s house.

But Suresh and his motherLakshmi wanted Nishanthinito live in their house.

This often led to quarrelsbetween the two families.

Man, friend arrested for killingfather-in-law

On Jan. 19, Savithri at-tacked Lakshmi and drove herout of the house after one suchquarrel.

This enraged Suresh whothen along with his friend wentto Manikandan’s house. Whenhe tried to forcefully take awayNishanthini, Manikandan in-tervened. In a rage, he stabbedManikandan and attackedSavithri and his Nishanthini.

He and his friend then ranaway on seeing the neighbourscoming to help. According tothe doctors, Manikandan suc-cumbed to his injuries in thehospital and the condition ofRoad, T. Nagar. According to a

regular commuter, the park-ing is unautho-rised and oftenleads to traffic congestion, es-pecially during peak hours.
