El baile de Taifas no es estrictamente un baile o un canto
determinado, más bien es una manera tradicional, condi-
cionada por las circunstancias, de ejecutar un encuentro
musical. Es común a todas la Islas del archipiélago, con
ligeras diferencias entre unas y otras. En esta Isla, caracte-
rizada por sus grandes distancias, el baile siempre ha sido
uno de los principales medios de integración social.
Originariamente, se celebraban estos bailes coincidiendo
con alguna ocasión especial. Se solían celebrar en lugares
no muy grandes, en ocasiones no tenían cabida más de tres
o cuatro parejas bailando a la vez. Era común hacerlo en
casas particulares, donde se habilitaba una dependencia,
se rodaban los muebles, se colocaban sillas alrededor del
espacio de baile y ahí era donde se sentaban las mujeres.
Mientras tanto los hombres esperaban fuera, en la calle, o
bien en el patio de la casa, si era el caso, y allí el anfitrión so-
lía tener una mesa con alguna botella de ron y/o vino para
que ellos se tomaran sus «pizcos» durante la celebración.
Taifas Dance is not a concrete dance or song. It’s rather
a traditional way of celebrating a musical encounter,
determined by circumstances. It’s common to every island
in the archipelago, with little differences among them. In
this island, characterised by its long distances, dance has
always been one of the main means of social integration.
Originally this dance was performed in special occasions.
They used to take place in little spaces, no more than
three of four couples could dance at a time, usually in
particular houses where one of the rooms was fit out for
the occasion: furniture was moved, chairs were placed
around the stage and women sat there. Men were
waiting outside, in the street, or in the yard if there was
one. There the host used to have a table with a bottle
of rum and/or wine so they could have some «pizcos»
during the celebration.

En la puerta del salón solía estar un señor que era el
que controlaba la entrada al baile, y que según la ver-
sión de algunos autores, era también el encargado de
cobrar una tarifa, según fuera el caso. Si la fiesta no se
cobraba, se llevaba algún presente a la familia que la
organizaba.
Los tocadores, generalmente con guitarras, timples y
bandurrias y en ocasiones con un violín, se colocaban
en una de las esquinas del recinto desde donde anima-
ban el baile. Se apreciaban especialmente los solistas
destacados por su voz o por su ingenio para improvisar
coplas.
El anfitrión podía tener una mesita donde colocaba algunos
presentes, como velas o bolsas de especias, donde los hom-
bres podían comprar algo para así camelar a la madre y a
la chica con la que pretendían bailar. Con lo recaudado se
amortizaba la inversión hecha, por ejemplo, en bebidas, y
en ocasiones este tipo de eventos ayudaban a la economía
familiar.
A man used to be at the entrance hall, controlling the
attendance to the dance, and according to some authors
he also charged an admission fee, depending on the
occasion. If there was no admission fee, people used to
bring a present to the family who had arranged the event.
The musicians, usually guitar, «timple» and «bandurria»
players were located at one of the corners, from where
they livened up the dancing. Soloists were specially
appreciated for their outstanding voices or their wit to
improvise songs.
The host could also have a little table to lay some presents,
like candles or bags with spices so that men could buy
something to persuade either their mother or the girl
they expected to dance with. With the collected money
they could recover their investment, for example, drinks.
On some occasions this kind of events helped the family
economy.
Todo baile de taifas que se precie, solía finalizar con algún
pique o refriega entre los hombres, ya fuera fruto del alco-
hol o de la disputa por una fémina.
Las piezas que normalmente se solían bailar en estas
celebraciones eran las de más ritmo, como las isas, las
folías, las seguidillas y las malagueñas, luego se intro-
dujeron las polcas y las mazurcas, en el siglo XIX y, ya a
principios del siglo XX, se llegaron a bailar pasodobles,
fox-trot, valses y hasta rumbas. La introducción de estos
nuevos estilos hizo que se fuera sofisticando cada vez
más el aparato instrumental con el que se contaba en
estos bailes.
En la actualidad, se celebra el popular Gran Baile de Tai-
fas, con motivo de la celebración del Día de Canarias, que
este año cumple su décimo segunda edición y volverá a
congregar a miles de personas, en Puerto del Rosario, sir-
viendo de punto de encuentro de la gastronomía, el baile,
la vestimenta tradicional y la música popular.
Any Taifas dance worth its salt used to finish with some
rivalry among the men, either because of their drinking or
because of a woman.
The dances that used to be performed in these celebrations
were the most rhythmical ones, like the «isas», «folias»,
«seguidillas» and «malagueñas»; later on «polcas» and
«mazurcas» were introduced, in the XIX century; at the
beginning of the XX century, «pasodobles», fox-trot,
waltzes and even rumbas were also danced.
The introduction of these new styles turned the musical
instruments used for these dances to more and more
sophisticated.
At present, The Great Taifas Dance is celebrated on the
Canaries Day, which this year will also celebrate its 22nd
occasion and thousands of people will meet in Puerto de
Rosario. It will also be a meeting point for gastronomy,
dance, regional costumes and popular music.
Nació en Madrid hace 38 años —el tercero de 10 herma-
nos—; a la edad de 4 años su padre, un gran apasionado
por el mar y la pesca, decidió trasladarse a A Coruña.
Desde muy pequeños se les inculcó el amor y el respeto
hacia el océano y, a la edad de 13 años, les regaló a los
hermanos mayores dos tablas de windsurf, de aquellas
que parecían petroleros. Poco a poco y con mucho es-
fuerzo se empezó a iniciar en el deporte y a contraer la
adicción por el salitre. Un poco más adelante, su hermano
mayor comenzó a hacer surf y, en cuanto se despistaba, él
y su amigo Iago le robaban la tabla para pegarse un baño
en el Orzán o cogerse una guagua para ir a Bastiaguei-

ro (playas coruñesas). Al principio el surf era esporádico
y casi siempre estaba haciendo wind en la ría de Mera,
donde, metiendo la tabla en un carrito y con un paseo
de 5 minutos, podía echarse al agua sin la necesidad de
depender de nadie.
A los 16 ya hacía alguna regatilla y algún viaje para com-
petir, llegando a participar en un par de campeonatos de
España; pero con el material que tenía era muy difícil sa-
car buenos resultados, así que decidió dejar de lado para
siempre la competición a la vez que descubría el wind en
olas. Se colaba en los coches de sus amigos mayores para
ir a darle caña a las olas en la costa ferrolana y, cuando no
había condiciones para el wind, surfeaban por los nume-
rosos spots de esta zona.
Poco a poco el surf le iba ganando terreno y comenzaron
los primeros surfaris. Portugal, como buen gallego, fue el
primer destino a los 17, y con 18 años vino por primera
vez a Fuerteventura (corría el año 92).
Al año siguiente se vino con 7 amigos en un 4x4. Al prin-
cipio la intención era pasar un mes acampados en la playa
del Cotillo, pero los primeros días hubo un fortísimo siro-
co y les salieron volando las tiendas, así que tuvieron que
alquilarse una casa en el pueblo. Un pueblo que poco a
poco le iba enamorando y al que volvía cada año, a veces

unos meses, otras unos días, hasta que, en el año 99,
después de acabar los estudios universitarios —licenciado
en derecho—, decidió venirse a vivir definitivamente a la
Isla; seducido por la calidad de vida, la tranquilidad y la
cercanía al mar con la que se vive en El Cotillo, enclave
con aire a «farwest» que espera se mantenga como está
y no continúe la especulación urbanística que nos ha lle-
vado a la crisis durante los pasados años.
Siempre le ha gustado viajar y aunque antes, cuando po-
día, se venía de viaje aquí, una vez instalado en Fuerte-
ventura empezó a gastar hojas del pasaporte recorriendo
un montón de lugares del mundo. Entre la hoja de Pana-
má y Costa Rica se queda con el país del canal, más roots
y, como dice entre risas: «mientras en Panamá se comen
a las iguanas en Costa Rica las protegen», y aunque en
ambos casos la naturaleza está igual de presente, en Cos-
ta Rica se hace más visible el peso de la industria del turis-
mo. De la hoja de México le queda el recuerdo de un país
y una cultura increíbles; además de una buena cura de
humildad que se llevó en Puerto Escondido, donde tuvo
el placer de saborear lo dura que puede estar una baja de
arena bien compactada por las marejadas del Pacífico. De
la de Sudáfrica se llevó un sabor agridulce: una naturaleza
impactante y un racismo asfixiante, «definitivamente no
podría vivir en un país así». Y hay unas cuantas hojas más:
California —¡Malibú se puede surfear con tabla corta!—,
Marruecos —muy divertido ese mes recorriendo la costa
en furgoneta—, Java, «G-Land», Irlanda, Azores...
Pero en el tema olas la hoja de Madeira es la ganadora.
13 días de olas entre 2 y más de 3 metros con condiciones
muy buenas, la costa SW es un paraíso de puntas muy de-
finidas y perfectamente orientadas para contener la furia
del Atlántico y concentrarla en derechas contundentes,
largas, grandes y solitarias.
En cuanto a windsurf, con los años se ha ido volviendo
más sibarita y ya sólo entra cuando las condiciones son
muy buenas, porque si no ya no disfruta. Pero con el surf
es otra cosa y, aunque es un fijo en los baños grandes
y potentes de Acid Drop, también lo puedes ver en su
querido Esquinzo, reventando el tímido labio de una olilla
de medio metro, dejándonos a muchos pensando ¿cómo
semejante cachorro puede girar así de potente en una ola
tan pequeña? En el agua es querido y respetado por todo
el mundo, ya que él también es un ejemplo de educación
y respeto, tanto dentro como fuera de ella, y una cara
amiga que da gusto encontrarse o para disfrutar de su
surfing o para intercambiar unas palabras.
Hace poco empezó el viaje más grande de su vida, se
llama Iago y ya está correteando por las esquinas de la
casa, y hay otro que viene en camino. Así que este mes se
va a Nías (Indonesia), aprovechando que ahora le quedan
unos añitos hasta que pueda viajar de nuevo.
Tranquilo, desde Macaronesia te guardaremos un par de
ejemplares de la revista para que la leas cuando vuelvas, y
esperamos que el próximo Aguado salga tan «espelido»,
sanote y majete como Iago, y que en poco tiempo estén
los dos acompañándote en el agua y trotando contigo
por el mundo. Un abrazo y buen viaje.

He was born in Madrid, 38 years ago —the third out of
ten siblings—, but when he was 4 his father, a lover of the
sea and fishing, decided to move to A Coruña. From a very
early age they were instilled the love and respect for the
ocean, and being 13 the two eldest brothers were given a
windsurf board, of those which seemed oil tankers. Little
by little and with a great effort he started out in sports and
he got hooked in the salt residue addiction. A little bit later
his oldest brother began to practise surf, and as soon as he
got distracted he and his friend Iago stole his board to go
for a swim to Orzán or get a bus to go to Bastiagueiro (A
Coruña beaches). At the beginning the surf was sporadic
and they mainly practised windsurf in «La ría de Mera» ,
where keeping the board in a trolley and just walking five
minutes they could go for a swim depending on nobody.
Being 16 he could already take part in some regattas and
he even travelled to compete, he even participated in a
couple of Spain championships, but with the equipment
he had it was difficult to get good results, so he decided
to leave competitions aside for good, and at the same time
he would discover wind on waves. He slipped in his older
friends’ cars to go and hit the waves in «la costa ferrolsana»,
and if the conditions were not good enough for wind he
surfed on the different spots in that area. Little by little surf
was gaining ground, and the first surfaris started.
Portugal, as a good Galician, was the first destiny, at 17,
and he came to Fuerteventura for the first time at 18 ( the
year 92 was running its course).
The following year he came to Fuerteventura with 7
friends in a 4x4. The first intention was to spend a month
camping on the beach in El Cotillo, but there was a strong
sirocco the first days and the tents flew off, so they had
to rent a house in the village, a village he little by little fell
in love with and where he turned year after year, some
times for some months, some others for some days, until
in 1999, after finishing his university studies —he got a
degree in law— he decided to come and settle down in
the island; seduced by the quality of life, the peace and
quiet and the way the sea surrounds you here in El Cotillo,
enclave with the «farwest», expecting it to remain like this
and the land speculation to stop, that speculation which
has led us to the crisis that started some years ago.
He has always liked travelling, and although before he always
came here whenever he could, once he settled down here

Between Panama and Costa Rica he prefers the Canal
country: there are more roots and, as he says giggling, while
in Panama they eat Iguanas they protect them in Costa Rica
and although in both countries nature is equally present, the
weight of industry and tourism is heavier in Costa Rica. From
Mexico he remembers an incredible country and culture,
besides the lesson in humility he got in Puerto Escondido,
where he had the pleasure to learn how hard it can be the
sand, flattened by the Pacific Ocean swell.
From South Africa he kept some bittersweet memories:
impressive nature and oppressive racism « definitely I
couldn’t live in a place like that». And there are some
more stamped leaves in his passport: California —¡Malibu
can be surfed by short board!—, Marruecos —a really
fun month travelling along the coast by van—, Java,
«G-Land», Ireland, Azores...
But no doubt Madeira was the winner: 13 days of two
and three meter high waves with very good weather
conditions; the SW coast is a paradise of well defined
peaks, perfectly designed to hold the Atlantic rage,
concentrated on heavy rights, long, large and lonely
waves.

As far as windsurf is concerned, age turned him more
sybaritic, and he only practises it when the conditions are
very good, otherwise he doesn’t enjoy it anymore. But surf is
quite another thing, and although he is devoted of powerful
great Acid Drop you can also find him in his beloved Esquinzo,
bursting the shy lip of a little half a metre wave, keeping
us wondering « How can such a strapping man turn so
powerfully in such a tiny wave? He is loved in the water, and
respected by everybody, as he is also an example of education
and respect, in and outside of the water, and a friendly face
one is pleased to meet, just to enjoy his surfing or to talk to.
Recently he started his biggest trip in life: his name is Iago
and he is already toddling around his home, and there is
another one coming soon. So this month he’s going to
Nías (Indonesia), now he knows that some years will pass
by before he can travel again.
Take it easy, from Macaronesia we’ll keep a couple of
magazines for you to read when you come back. We
also expect your «new Aguado» will get to this world as
«espelido», healthy and nice as Iago so that both of them
will keep you company in the water and also travelling
with you around the world.

El olfato forma un papel fundamental en el perro, ya que percibe la mayor parte de su en-torno a través de la nariz. Para hacerse una idea, en la nariz humana hay unos 10 millones de células olfatorias, mientras que el perro posee unos 220 millones.
Otra particularidad es que un perro
puede procesar y evaluar, de forma
independiente, todas las partículas
olorosas captadas. De esta manera un
perro sí podría encontrar una aguja
en un pajar. La longitud del hocico, en
general, determina que el perro tenga
mejor o peor olfato. Por ejemplo un
Bull Dog, que tiene la nariz chata, olerá
algo peor que un Podenco de morro
alargado.
En el cerebro del perro se almacenan
todos los olores relacionados con las
experiencias. Esta gran capacidad olfativa
le es imprescindible para la supervivencia,
buscar comida y encontrar agua. También
es vital para su instinto de reproducción y
para reconocer personas o perros.
El olor está formado por distintos com-
ponentes por los cuales el perro puede
identificar la edad, el sexo, el estado de
ánimo y el rango social, entre otros.
De esta manera se puede adiestrar a un
perro para que detecte ciertas enfermeda-
des o para avisar a una persona que sufre
epilepsia de un ataque inminente.
Hay numerosos juegos de olfato y rastreo
que se pueden practicar con nuestro
perro. Diez minutos de esfuerzo mental
en el perro pueden suponer lo mismo que
treinta minutos de paseo. Un ejercicio sen-
cillo que podéis llevar a cabo es esconder
golosinas por casa y acompañar y animar
al perro a que las encuentre. Cuando
el perro ya las encuentre fácilmente,
podéis complicárselo un poquito más,
escondiéndolas en sitios más difíciles,
como por ejemplo dentro de un cajón. El
aprendizaje debe ser progresivo para no
frustrar al animal, una sesión diaria de 5
ó 10 minutos es más que suficiente. No
debemos esperar que en la primera sesión
nuestro perro se convierta en un rastrea-
dor profesional.

The smell is essential for a dog, as he perceives most of his surroundings through the smell. To get an idea, in the human nose there are about 10 million smelling cells, while a dog has about 220 million.
Another special feature in a dog is that he
can process and evaluate, independently,
every different smell he perceives. This way
a dog could find a needle in a haystack.
The length of his muzzle generally tells us
about his having a better or worse sense of
smell. For example, a snub-muzzle Bull Dog
will smell worse than a long-muzzle Hound.
A dog’s brain stores all the smells related
to his experiences. This great sense of
smell is indispensable for his survival,
looking for food and finding water. It is
also essential for his breeding instinct and
for recognizing other people and dogs.
The smell is made of different components
through which a dog can identify the
age, sex, mood and social status, among
others.
This way a dog can be trained to detect
certain diseases, or to warn a person
suffering from epilepsy about an imminent
seizure.
There are several smelling and tracking
games we can practise with our dogs.
A ten minute mental effort for our dogs
means the same as a thirty-minute walk.
An easy exercise you can practise is
that of hiding sweets at home and then
accompany and encourage our dog to
find them. When it becomes easy for him
to find them you can make it a little bit
more difficult by hiding the sweets a little
bit more, for example, inside a drawer.
The teaching must be progressive, so as
not to get him frustrated. A daily five or
ten minute session is more than enough.
We mustn’t expect our dog to become a
professional tracker in the first session.

El Ironman es la prueba más exigente del triatlón. Consta de 3,86 km. de natación, 180 km. de ciclismo y 42,2 km. de pedestrismo (carrera a pie o maratón). El triatlón empieza, según la leyenda popular, por una apuesta entre marines norteamericanos, en el año 1978, en la isla de Hawai, para determinar qué deporte y por tanto qué deportista sería el más duro y completo en su conjunto: un nadador, un atleta o un ciclista, lo que daría origen al actual Ironman de Hawai (prueba culmen del triatlón mundial), pero hay otras fuentes que citan carreras realizadas muchas décadas antes, hacia 1920, como el inicio de este deporte.
El simple hecho de clasificarse es motivo de reverencia ya que
muchos lo consideran el deporte más difícil de la historia.
Roberto Núñez Vallina, natural de Gijón y residente en
Fuerteventura desde 1994, es un apasionado de este de-
porte y ha conseguido terminar el Ironman de Lanzarote
5 años (2004, 2005, 2006, 2010 y 2011).
¿Desde cuándo vinculado al mundo de los deportes?Desde niño; con 7 años ya jugaba al tenis, hasta los 16, cuan-
do tuve una lesión de espalda y lo cambié por el ciclismo.
¿Cuándo empiezas a interesarte por el triatlón?En el año 2000, un día que salí a entrenar con la bici me
encontré con dos chicos de Puerto del Rosario —Mateo
y Carmelo— que estaban intentando formar el Club de
Triatlón «El Jablito». Me motivaron y, poco a poco, empecé
a nadar (era en lo que estaba más verde). Desde entonces
aquí sigo y actualmente soy el presidente del Club de Triat-
lón Colombus, que se formó el año pasado en Corralejo.
El triatlón está considerado el deporte más difícil del mun-do, ¿por qué?Físicamente tienes que estar en forma, pero la gran difi-
cultad, para mí, está en la parte psicológica: las pruebas
de larga distancia son pruebas de un 50% esfuerzo físico
y otro 50% psicológico. De hecho yo he competido con
deportistas mejor preparados físicamente que yo que no

han conseguido terminar las pruebas. Exige una motiva-
ción y fuerza mental terribles.
¿Cómo te preparas física y mentalmente?La principal característica de un deportista de triatlón es la
fuerza de voluntad para hacer los entrenamientos. Yo empie-
zo 4 meses antes de la prueba y entreno 15 ó 20 horas se-
manales, pero no soy un fanático del deporte y creo que hay
tiempo para todo, incluso para salir y pasarlo bien. Psicológi-
camente tienes que tener una motivación; el último empujón
fuerte en la última prueba me lo dio pensar en mi padre, que
murió hace poco, y siempre me decía que la vida son etapas,
como en una vuelta ciclista, que hay que superar.
¿Evolucionas con el tiempo?Creo que sí. Con la edad cada vez te cuesta más coger la
forma, pero también tienes más resistencia y te conoces
mejor. Sabes dónde tienes tus límites y la experiencia te
da muchas ventajas.
¿Has aspirado a llegar alguna vez a Hawai?En realidad creo que alguna vez en la vida llegaré, aun-
que sea con 60 años. Para llegar a Hawai tienes que ser
profesional, dedicar tu vida a ello. En pruebas como el
Ironman de Lanzarote haces puntos y te clasificas por
edad y rangos de tiempos. Espero que cuando tenga
60 años, como para esa edad el margen de tiempo au-
menta, tenga la experiencia suficiente para poder ir a
la meca del Triatlón.

The Ironman is the most demanding triathlon event. It consists of 3,86 km swimming, 180 km cycling, and 42,2 km jogging ( race or marathon). Triathlon starts, according to oral records, because of a bet between American marines in the island of Hawaii, in 1978: the bet was about which sport, and consequently which sportsmen, were the hardest and most complete on the whole: a swimmer, an athlete or a cyclist, which would give rise to the classic Ironman in Hawaii (Triathlon world peak event) ; but there are other sources that mention races taking place some decades before, around 1920, as the start of this sport.
The simple fact of being classified is already a reason to
hat off to someone, as this sport is considered as the most
difficult in history. Roberto Núñez Vallina, born in Gijón
and living in Fuerteventura since 1994, is a triathlon lover,
and he has managed to finish the Ironman in Lanzarote
for 5 years (2004, 2005, 2006, 2010 and 2011).
How long have you been linked to the world of sports? Since I was a child; being 7 I played tennis, until I was 16,
when I suffered a back lesion and I took up cycling.
When did your interest in triathlon arise?In the year 2000, one day I went training on my bike and
I found two boys from Puerto del Rosario—Mateo and
Carmelo— who were trying to set up the Triathlon Club
«El Jablito». They encouraged me and little by little I started
to swim ( I was really inexperienced at it). Here I have been
since then, and at present I’m the president of the Triathlon
Club Columbus, set up last year in Corralejo.
Triathlon is considered as the most difficult sport in the world, why?You must keep fit , but the the most difficult part to master
is the psychological one: long distance events require a
50% physical effort, and another 50% psychological effort.
I have competed with sportsmen who were physically in a
better shape than me and however they have not managed
to get to the end. It requires exceptional motivation and
mental effort.
How do you train your body and your mind?The main feature of a triathlon sportsman is the will
power to train. I start training the 4 months previous to
the event, around 15 or 20 hours a week, but I’m not
a sport fanatic and I think there is time for everything,
even to go out and have a good time. Psychologically you
must have a motivation; In the last event I was greatly
encouraged by thinking of my father, who died recently,
and used to say that there are stages in life, like in a
cycling tour, that you must get over.
Are you improving in time?I think so. Keeping fit becomes more and more difficult as
time goes by, but however you develop more resistance and
you get to know yourself better and better. You learn where
you limits are and experience becomes and advantage too.
Have you ever aimed to reach Hawaii ?Actually I think I will reach it some day, even if I am 60 years
old. To reach Hawaii you must be a professional and devote
your whole life to it. In events such as the Lanzarote Ironman
you get some score and you are classified according to your
age and time ranking. I hope that by the time I’m 60, as
for this age the time ranking increases, I will have enough
experience to get to the Mecca of Triathlon .

Cuéntanos tu trayectoria profesional. Empecé en Marsella
siendo profesor de deportes y estudié Quiropraxia. Ya en
el 99, cuando estaba por las Canarias, seguí estudiando
Quiromasaje. Después empecé a interesarme por la nu-
trición y me di cuenta de que todo está interrelacionado.
Seguí profundizando en diferentes disciplinas que me han
ayudado a crearme mi maleta profesional. En pocos me-
ses voy a presentarme a un master de Naturopatía y Kine-
siología y, posteriormente, a otro sobre el NIS (sistema de
integración neurológico), que me convertirán en el único
terapeuta en Canarias con esta titulación.
Háblanos un poco de las disciplinas que desarrollas. La
Quiropraxia pretende restablecer el equilibrio y la flui-
dez del cuerpo a través de la correcta alineación de la
columna vertebral, tratando contracturas y evitando que
degeneren en atrofia, a través de masajes quiroprácticos.
La osteopatía es lo mismo pero ampliando al sistema vis-
ceral, no sólo el estructural.
La Naturopatía es una medicina alternativa, sin efectos se-
cundarios, partidaria de la activación del propio organismo,
para desarrollar defensas, a través de una correcta nutri-
ción y la utilización de las propiedades de las plantas.
La Kinesiología parte de la idea de que todo músculo ofrece
una respuesta débil, cuando el sistema que debe alimentarlo

efectos secundarios de los fármacos, propios de la medicina tradicional.

(nervioso, sanguíneo, linfático, energético) tiene problemas.
El NIS es una evolución de la kinesiología. Pretende reco-
nocer cualquier disfunción a nivel neurológico, muscular,
visceral y estructural por la interpretación de una respuesta a
un test muscular. Yo ya estoy integrando la Kinesiología en
mi tratamiento: digitopuntura o acupresión, derivados del
Shiatsu japonés, que me ahorran mucho tiempo a la hora
de encontrar el origen de las disfunciones.
Principal diferencia entre la medicina tradicional y las tera-pias alternativas. La medicina tradicional interpreta los sín-
tomas y los trata. La medicina alternativa intenta estudiar el
origen del problema, para prevenir nuevas lesiones.
¿En qué harías especial hincapié? En la nutrición; es im-
portantísimo enseñar a comer bien. Cada uno somos dife-
rentes y según nuestro grupo sanguíneo asimilamos mejor
unos alimentos que otros. A veces los problemas de salud
pueden solucionarse fácilmente sabiendo qué alimentos
necesita mi organismo y cuáles no le vienen bien.
¿Qué más podemos encontrar en tu clínica? A parte de lo
ya citado soy entrenador personal deportivo, con mucha
experiencia, ya que he trabajado con deportistas de alto
nivel, en Francia, durante 5 años. Esto también me ha
servido para conocer y tratar lesiones que la gente común
no suele sufrir.
También ofrezco la preparación al parto y post-parto, para
mejorar la vida de la embarazada durante los 9 meses, y ayu-
darla a recuperar su forma física inmediatamente después.
Principales patologías que tratas. Cualquier patología
leve: gripe, resfriado común, varicela, sarampión, aler-
gias, problemas digestivos, respiratorios… En la parte
física: lumbalgia, lumbociática, hernia discal, dorsalgia,
cervicalgia, cualquier dolor del cuerpo que sea articu-
lar o muscular, ligamentoso, tendinoso o estructural.
También ayudamos en la fibromialgia. A nivel emocio-
nal estrés, ansiedad. A nivel neurológico favorecemos
las órdenes del cerebro al músculo, importante para el
deportista de alto nivel.
En definitiva, en la clínica Stéphane Blanc pretendemos restablecer el correcto funcionamiento del organismo con estudios avanzados en terapias alternativas, apos-tando por los procesos naturales como la vía del futuro y haciendo un profundo hincapié en la nutrición adecuada para mantener una mente sana en un cuerpo sano.

Naturopathy is an alternative medicine, without side effects,
which supports the stimulation of the organism itself to
generate defences by means of the right nutrition and using
the properties of plants. Kinesiology is based on the principle
that muscles offer a weak response when the systems that
should feed them (nervous, blood, lymphatic and energetic)
have problems. The NIS is the evolution of Kinesiology. It tries
to recognise any kind of malfunction (neurological, muscular,
visceral and structural) by means of the interpretation of
the response to a muscular test. I am already introducing
Kinesiology to my treatment: acupressure, derived from the
Japanese Shiatsu, saves me a long time when it comes to
finding the origin of malfunctions.
Main difference between traditional medicine and alternative therapies. Traditional medicine interprets the
symptoms and treats them. Alternative medicine studies
the root of the problem to avoid new lesions.
What would you put a special emphasis on? On nutrition;
it’s very important to teach how to nourish oneself
properly. Everyone of us is different, and according to our
blood group we assimilate some food better than other.
Tell us about your professional career. I started in Marsella,
working as a physical education teacher and studying
Chiropractic. In the year 99, being already in the Canary
Islands, I went on to study Chiromassage. Then I got
interested in nutrition and I realised it was all interrelated.
Then I studied in detail different disciplines that have
helped me to create my own professional career. In
a few months I will take a master in Naturopathy and
Kinesiology, and later on another one in NIS (Neurological
Integration System), which will turn me into the only
therapist in The Canary Islands with these qualifications.
