YOUTH 4-H OPPORTUNITIES

Citizenship Washington Focus

Citizenship Washington Focus (CWF) is a 4-H leadership pro-gram for high school youth (grades 9-12). Every summer teens from across the country gather at the National 4-H Conference Center, near Washington, D.C., to learn what it means to be a

strong leader in their community, country, and world.

Approximately 50 Iowa 4-H teens will have the opportunity to explore the meaning of social action. Objectives for the pro-

gram are:

Strengthen communication, leadership, and other citizen-ship skills on a national level.

Understand the importance of civic and social responsibili-

ties as they relate to the development of better citizens and leaders.

Exchange ideas, practice respect, and form friendships

with other youth from diverse backgrounds.

Experience hands-on learning using the historical back-

drop of our nation’s Capital City, Washington, D.C. These objectives are met through pre-trip education, speakers, workshops, daily excursions to view National sites, day at the Capitol with elected officials, and a delegate designed and im-

plemented action plan.

The dates for this year’s trip are June 16-24, 2017. Deadline to register is Friday, January 6, 2017. Space is limited to first 50 delegate registrations. Trip cost is $1570. This includes all lodging, travel, tours, and a majority of meals. For more infor-

mation, visit www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/cwf
