RTP Scenarios

• Scenario planning is in addition to standard RTP development activities.

• Internal Staff and Technical committee exercise.• Based on current land uses, future projections and

Wasatch Choice for 2040 Vision.• Will help us better understand how land use

choices and densities affect transportation needs and options.

As part of the MTP development process, MPO staff in coordination with WFRC, UDOT and UTA will develop 4 land use and transportation scenarios.

√ Cost of living (transportation)

√ Total infrastructure costs

√ Natural resource impacts

√ Air quality

√ Accidents

√ Bicycle and pedestrian opportunities

√ Accessibility to employment & education

√ Travel time and reliability

√ Miles traveled by car

√ Transit ridership

√ Infrastructure maintenance costs (Roads, Transit, Sewer, Water, etc.)

√ Community Impacts (parks, disadvantaged communities, properties, and places of worship, etc.)

√ Community or corridor specific needs previously stated by the community (may be too time consuming)

√ Walkability

√ Urban area expansion (Sprawl)

√ Housing Choice (Options)

Performance Measurements

Goal: Min. Congestion & Max. Choices • Performance Measures:

– Accessibility to employment and education– Travel times– Miles traveled by car– Transit ridership

Each Goal will use specific Performance Measurements to evaluate the four land use scenarios
