Geographical Location

History• started in 1820 by religious missionaries led by Don Valentin

Ayala and was named as Fundacion de Naylog. • In 1855 it was classified as one of 17 new pueblos (town)

added to the four already existing in the province and was renamed Magallanes, in honor of Spanish explorer Ferdinand Magellan.

• In February 21, 1861, another pueblo was created named Rancheria de Indiel it is now known as BarangayDulangan.

• During the American occupation Rancheria de Indiel classified as part of Magallanes.

• The civil government in Romblon was established during American occupation in 1901 and Magallanes became one of 11 new municipalities.

• In 1917, due to financial struggle of the province the Municipality of Magallanes became the annexed of Cajidiocan, but in 1933 the independence of the municipality was restored and renamed as Magdiwang, in honor of the Magdiwang faction of the Philippine revolutionary group, Katipunan. It was inaugurated through festivities which lasted from 24 to 25 March 1933 and led by Governor Manuel T. Alvero.

In 1940 the special municipality of Sibuyan was established through the passage of Commonwealth Act. No. 581, sponsored by Congressman Leonardo Festin. Magdiwang became the annexed of Cajidiocan. In 1946 the special municipality of Sibuyan was abolished through passage of Republic Act No. 38, which was authored by Congressman Modesto Formelleza and took effect on January 1, 1947, when President Manuel Roxas signed the Republic Act No. 38, restoring the Municipality of Magdiwang.

• The land area of the Municipality of Magdiwang is 10,074.5963 Hectares or 100.745 square kilometers.

• Classified as 5th class community by the DILG.• Incumbent Mayor for 12 years, Mayor Ibarra

Manzala.• Undergone succession as of September, 2015 due

to death of the incumbent Mayor.

• As an IRA dependent municipality, they acted adhered towards the need to amend their Local Tax Code increasing the revenue from P30,552,590.40 (2010) to 47, 597,906.00 (2014).• Creation of the Municipal Investment Incentive

Code of 2003, attracting foreign investors to invest in Magdiwang.• Bottom up Budgeting, that helps the initiation of

poverty reduction programs stipulated by the LPRAT.

Chapter 4. LDRRMC

• The local government of Magdiwang, Romblon created the Municipal Ordinance No. 5 S. 2011 in compliance with the RA 10121 known as the “Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Ordinance of Magdiwang, Romblon”

• The office of the LDRRMC have been created on May 2015.• They are currently using the contingency plans limited to coverage of

per barangays.• The office have purchased generators, ladders, and two way radios.• Conducted trainings for volunteers.• The LDRRMC has initiated earthquake drills in Poblacion, Magdiwang

elementary school.• Rubber boats and other emergency gears are poorly maintained.• The office is planning to purchase early warning devices, and other

essential equipment.

• The goal of their strategies is to give all the children their right to education,• Magdiwang, a very conservative municipality maintained

strict implementation of environmental protection ordinances and the total restriction on any kinds of mining in the island.• Health services are one of the priority projects in the annual

budget appropriation.• Magdiwang sets its goal to have a road to market

accessibility for the whole municipality and clean drinking water source for every barangay.• Local officials and employees ensure the transparency and

good governance within magdiwang.

OVER-ALL• The compliance of Magdiwang,

Romblon to the PA21 was good. Social services are delivered rightfully, education programs are highlighted in budget appropriations, grassroots governance are encourage in BUB projects, crime rates are low, and citizen’s cooperation on the protection of their environment is impressive, however, economic empowering projects remain ineffective due to uncooperative farmers.
