Automatic Tank Gauging ...Set It And Forget It!

Level Plus® liquid level transmitters feature 3-IN-1 measurement of the product level, interface level, and temperature from one process opening. No other technology on the market is able to provide all of these benefits from a single instrument. Also, no other technology on the market is able to provide reliable interface measurement under the difficult requirements of the mining industry.

Applications

SX - Solvent ExtractionThis hydrometallurgical process involves multiple steps and liquids to help separate the copper from impurities. As these steps occur the characteristics of the liquid changes and causes some level measurement technologies to have difficulty detecting the low pH solutions. MTS is able to accurately and reliably measure the level of the liquid in the tanks despite the changing conditions and characteristics. The float based magnetostrictive technology developed by MTS can outperform competitive technologies in solvent extraction applications.

Froth Floatation CellThe simplicity of the application is to measure the pulp height so the froth is able to overflow the tank and enter the lauder. However, most level measurement technologies cannot measure the pulp height due to the

presence of the froth. MTS is able to accurately and reliable measure the pulp height using our float based technology. The advantage of using a float in froth applications is that the float will always pass through the froth and measure the pulp height without concerns about false echoes or froth thickness. To eliminate concerns about sediment in the tank affecting the movement of the float MTS utilizes floats with larger internal diameters so there is a significant gap between the pipe and the float of up to 0.64 in. (16 mm).

Bulk Storage TanksDue to the remote location of most mines, there are requirements for storing liquids, including fuels and chemicals, that are needed to operate the mine on site. These storage tanks need to be monitored to prevent downtime due to theft or lost inventory. MTS can provide accurate inventory monitoring on tanks up to 22 m in height and in various materials of construction to accommodate almost all storage tank needs.

Chemical CompatibilityMTS understands the need to offer different materials of construction so our level transmitters are compatible with most liquids. MTS offers our model MR and MG with all wetted parts made from 316L Stainless Steel (1.4404), Hastelloy-C 276 (2.4819), or Teflon®. The variety of materials allows MTS to be compatible with almost all liquids used in the mining industry.

Ease of InstallationThe complete installation of a Level Plus liquid level transmitter occurs from the top of the tank and does not require a confined space permit or taking the tank out of service. The level transmitter can be installed in less than an hour by no more than two people using common hand tools.

To assist with installation MTS offers on-site training and demonstration of the installation process. In addition to on-site training, a training video is available upon request to assist contractors or company employees through the installation process.

Field ServiceableLevel Plus liquid level transmitters are designed to be modular so that if any component becomes damaged the transmitter can be serviced in the field without having to take the tank out of service. All electronic components of the level transmitter can be replaced from the top of the tank without removing the transmitter from the tank or having to empty the tank. MTS has developed a user-friendly guide (available at www.mtssensors.com) to assist with replacing the transmitter’s electronic components in the field using basic hand tools.
