Mahararajah’s college (Autonomous), the glorious institution established in 1879 by
Sri Poosapati Vijayarama Gajapathi Maharajh of Vizianagaram has indeed come a long way
in its ceaseless march over a period of one and a half centuries and the milestones reached
have lost count. Started as a middle-school for the spread of education in 1857, the institution
was upgraded to high-school in 1869. It has made rapid strides and was again upgraded to a
second grade college in the year 1879. Since its inception the college has got a reputation as a
foremost institution of learning in the north coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Maharaja Alak Narayan Society of Arts and Sciences ( MANSAS) the symbol of
selfless service and enlightenment was founded by Dr. P.V.G.Raju, Raja Saheb of
Vizianagaram and he had donated large extent of his landed property to MANSAS for the
cause of education. MANSAS was registered as an Endowment trust in 1958 with an
objective to make higher education accessible to common man. The MANSAS trust presently
runs 12 educational institutions that include schools and colleges, imparting educational
services in several disciplines like Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Arts, Commerce,
Education Training (B.Ed.), Law, Management and Engineering, catering to the needs of
students from L.K.G. to Post Graduation.
The college is affiliated to Andhra University and was recognized by U.G.C. under
2(f) and 12(b) of U.G.C. act and got Autonomy in 1987. The college is accredidated with
‘NAAC-B GRADE’ in March, 2009. Post Graduation courses are started in the college with
M.Sc.-Organic Chemistry in the academic year 2009-2010 and M.Sc.- Analytical Chemistry
