Smoke and heat extraction systems create a smoke-free layer above the ground by clearing the smoke and thus

improve the conditions for safe evacuation and/or rescue of people and animals, and allow the fire to be attacked while

still in its early stages. They also remove the hot gases released by the fire in its full expansion phase.

- Their efficacy is well proven in assisting the evacuation of occupants of buildings, limiting fire damage by preventing

the accumulation of smoke, making it easier to attack the fire, reducing the temperature of roofs and preventing the fire

spreading sideways.

- To be sure of these beneficial effects, it is essential that smoke and heat extraction equipment operates reliably each

time it is used during its service life on a site.

WHY USE SMOKE EXTRACTION MOTORS ?

Components such as insulation, varnish, wires, are components with specific characteristics and must conform to the

motor originally approved by an official laboratory, and certified by an approved body.

The impregnation system is special.

REWINDING IS PROHIBITED

Leroy-Somer cannot guarantee the motor smoke extraction function after rewinding; this becomes the responsibility of the person carrying out the repair.

A DAMAGED STATOR MUST THEREFORE BE REPLACED WITH A NEW ONE

Option of adding a PTC sensor designed to protect the motor at 140° (when operating in comfort duty)

WARNING !

The sensors must be deactivated when the smoke extraction function is used. An automatic shut-off system should therefore be provided.

REGULAR SERVICE INSPECTION

-Checktheinsulationresistance,>50MΩat500VDC

If the value is lower, dry the stator in an oven and, if the fault persists, change the stator

- Open the drain holes to drain any condensation water

Don’t forget to close them again to guarantee the degree of motor protection

- Make sure that the motor is clean

No greasy deposits and/or dust in order to ensure optimum motor cooling

- Check the state of the power supply cables

-Checkthatanyaccessoriesarefixedsecurely

- Replace the seals on IP65 & IP66 motors

Note: each time the IP65 & IP66 motors are dismantled, replace the seals on the shaftways, the shield spigots, the terminal box cover and body, and the cable gland or its support with new seals with the same characteristics after cleaning all parts. The seals on the shaftways should be greased with the same type of grease as the bearings (see reference specified on the nameplate) or ENS (NIPPON OIL), GHY72 (KLUBER) or KRYTOX GPL 226 (DUPONT de NEMOURS) grease.

- After 20,000 hours of operation or after 5 years of installation:

replace the stator and antifriction bearings (or the whole motor)

-Formotorsfittedwithbearingswithgreasenipples:

top up with grease if necessary (Quantity, Quality and Frequency indicated on the nameplate)

- In the case of special applications (intermittent duty, humid atmosphere, etc)

regrease the bearings at least every 2 years

If maintenance involves dismantling, a dimensional and geometric check of the «bearing cage» and «stator spigot»

diameters should be performed (see manufacturer data)

Respecter scrupuleusement les couples de serrage (voir données constructeur)

The motor should be sandblasted prior to being painted.

The paint used is RAL 9006 (grey)

- Standard: Polyurethane Vinyl (PIN009PV102)

- Optional: Epoxy (PIN008EP039)

(Ask the manufacturer for the application instructions «Number of coats, etc»)

VERY IMPORTANT

All parts to be changed should be replaced with original manufacturer spare parts. Specify the motor series number on the order.

VERY IMPORTANT

If any incident occurs during operation (or possibly when stopped), the motor should be inspected immediately.

Abnormal vibrations should be investigated immediately.

It is advisable to measure and monitor motor parameters such as current, noise and vibration levels, etc, and compare them with the initial settings so as to detect wear or possible malfunctions.
