2010 IRWA Federal Agency Update 5
• 1,200 New Passenger Seats are Currently Being Installed throughout Airport Concourses
• The New Seating is manufactured using 65% recycled material, which is made up of 100% aluminum arms and legs, with steel seats, backs and beams. Bottom line results in a 95% recyclable chair and the end of its useful life.
Resource Conservation
• The Airport Currently Maintains a Fleet of 90+ Alternative Fuel Vehicles
– 10 Electric
– 60 Natural Gas (Including Entire Shuttle Bus Fleet)
– 20 Propane and Hybrid Vehicles
2010 IRWA Federal Agency Update 6
Resource Conservation• Since the Airport Recycling Program was expanded in 2005, we have seen some
amazing results.• For Example, in 2008, the Airport Recycled the Following:
2010 IRWA Federal Agency Update 7
Item Recycled Amount (Measured in Tons)
Total Savings ($) Total Revenue ($)
Batteries 6.2 $136
Tires 5.2 $114
Waste Oil 23
Scrap Metal 37 $809 $3,338
Cardboard 247 $5,432 $19,038
Plastic/Newspaper 67 $1,448
Construction Material 104,000 $3,125,487
Glycol 92,696 (Gallons) $459,967
Resource Conservation
• The Airport has converted over 12 acres to water-conserving landscapes, saving approximately 197 million gallons of water
• The Airport has installed water-conserving plumbing fixtures in all public use restroom facilities, resulting in a 50% reduction in water usage
• A Building Automation System (BAS)is set up to effectively manage and conserve energy consumption throughout Airport property
2010 IRWA Federal Agency Update 8
Resource Conservation• In an effort to replace natural wetland
environments that were adversely impacted by construction of an additional runway, a 465 man-made wetland was completed in 1992.
• The wetland site is one of the largest replacement projects ever undertaken in the U.S., and is unique for not only its size, but for the diversity of habitats replaced
• Grass Carp replacing Magnacide H herbicide for floating and submerged weeds and algae in irrigation canals.
