MALAYSIA’ GOVERNMENT’S GREEN ICT
INITIATIVE : TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE
ENVIRONMENT
Muka Surat 2BERSAMA MELAKSANA TRANSFORMASI
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
•Reduce the amount of energy
consumed by ICT equipments and
peripherals;
•Reduce paper consumption;
•Work with the change management
programmes to identify the impact
of the changes they propose; and
•Enhance public education and
awareness on Green Technology
and encourage its widespread use.

STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK
Reducing the burden of ICT
•Use the equipment wisely to reduce power saving•Data center, network and email consolidation
Improving efficiency through the use of ICT
•Reducing the use or materials (paper, ribbon)•Implementing “zero visit” and “No wrong door” – increasing online services, online payments, mobile connects
• To replace inefficient technology
• To use ICT to make savings in
business

REDUCING THE BURDEN ON ICT
Reducing the burden of ICT
•Use the equipment wisely to reduce power saving
•Data center, network and email consolidation
Remove active screensavers
A monitor left running with an active screen saver uses the same
amount of energy as when the screen is in full use
Switch monitors to standby after 5 minutes of inactivity
Set set standby mode automatically. Prevents a longer period of
wasted power.
Shut down PCs after office hours
Don’t waste energy. Enable active power management on
desktops (standby / hibernate)
Re-use of equipment
Extending its use or seeking its re-use elsewhere will save energy
and materials (manufacturing stage) as well as purchase and
disposal costs.
Specify low-power consumption CPUs
Do not over specify system requirements. The richer the
functionality on a device the more mains power is drawn
Apply Thin Client technology
A Thin client or a PC that contains fewer components will reduce
maintenance and support costs and thus energy consumption

IMPROVING EFFICIENCY
Improving efficiency through the use of ICT
•Reducing the use or materials (paper, ribbon)
•Implementing “zero visits” and “No wrong door” – increasing online services, online payments, mobile connects
Sharing network printers:
•Save energy – Reduce standby losses of
the individual printers.
•Save space – Clean and manageable
workspace area.
•Easy maintenance – since number of
printers are less.
•Cost effective – printing cost is lesser due
to high performance system.
Reducing paper mountains
•Reducing employee-to-printer ratios
•Make it difficult to print
•Limit the number of papers to be
distributed
•“we don’t accept papers”

IMPROVING EFFICIENCY
Improving efficiency through the use of ICT
•Reducing the use or materials (paper, ribbon)
•Implementing “zero visit” and “No wrong door” –increasing online services, online payments, mobile connects
“No Wrong Door” and “Zero Visit” reflects the
government’s aspirations to bring the “One
Government, Many Agencies” establishment
close to clients to enable them to avail public
services with ease and speed , minus tedium of
long waits and red tape.
• Government agencies are viewed as a singleintegrated entity, well-coordinated , well-informedand client-friendly.
• Clients deal with government in a fast, simple andtransparent manner through several public servicechannels.
• Clients get optimum satisfaction from effectivesolution oriented action by members and agenciesof the Malaysian Public Service.
