Manchester and North West Districts BranchProgramme 2015

Welcome from the Branch Chair

Welcome to the Manchester

and North West Districts

Branch 2015 programme.

With meetings being arranged

by the Branch, Districts and

Sections at different times and

on different days throughout

the North West, there’s every

chance for members to get to

at least a few meetings during

the year.

Remember that meetings are open to non-members, so if a topic is particularly relevant to others in your workplace, then bring them along. Meetings are free unless otherwise stated. In addition to the published programme we may arrange seminars or other events occasionally, for which there will be a modest charge.

The meetings are more than just about hearing from expert speakers. They are opportunities to network with other members, discuss issues, get help with IPD or CPD and find out about and contribute to the success of your Institution.

The Branch network plays an important role in IOSH. Please take advantage of the opportunity it offers for all members to be an active part of IOSH.

We have a volunteers’ programme, which is designed for members who wish to contribute and/or represent their peer group within the Branch and Districts. Please contact the Chair or Secretary for more details.

Finally, as programmes are always liable to change, keep up-to-date with the Branch by checking the IOSH website and the Manchester and North West Districts Branch pages.

Manchester and North West Districts Branch is served by an Executive Committee. It represents the combined interests of the seven committees who work to benefit members in our area.

Your Branch, District or Section committees exist to represent you and in turn they each send a nominated individual to the Executive Committee to ensure your voice is heard.

If you have any queries about the Executive Committee, you can discuss these with your committee at any Branch, District or Section meeting.

09.00–16.15Sustainable occupational health and safety behavioural cultures (Plan, Do, Check, Act)

Our theme this year will be of interest to all members, especially for health and safety practitioners, representatives from SMEs and business leaders. We strongly encourage you to attend.

The event will provide delegates with knowledge and understanding of how a typical behaviourally-based safety process is implemented in the workplace, and how it may fit and be sustained within the organisation’s overall culture. This is supported by the use of the “Plan, Do, Check, Act” management systems process, which has recently been adopted by the Health and Safety Executive with guidance issued for use by organisations.

Delegates will be able to hear from and exchange views with speakers who are experts in their fields, and learn from organisations who already have introduced a behavioural process into their workplace cultures. The meeting will feature presentations on a range of safety culture issues from representatives of the Health and Safety Laboratory and topic experts. It’s an excellent opportunity to meet and discuss with fellow professionals.

This is a free seminar for all IOSH members and guests, but you must register for attendance before 23 May 2015.
