Primary Library NewsIt has been another busy term in the Library. In our Personal Development lessons we have been learning about personal hygiene, growing up and how to keep us safe. Kindergarten and Stage 1 received their own individual toothbrushes at the beginning of the term and have been busy learning the correct technique on how to clean their teeth. They also discovered what happens when they don’t wash their hands. 1/2 Opal completed an experiment looking at germs using bread. They had a control sample and 2 other samples whereby they had different levels of dirty hands to hold the bread in order to transfer the germs across. We checked it a week later to discover that the germs became bacteria and mould, with many colour changes showing on the bread. Our control (clean) piece remained plain and unchanged. Stage 2 and 3 have learnt about many aspects of growing up including the process of making decisions, earning trust and increased responsibility as we become older. They have learnt about the harmful effects of smoking and discussed ways that they can say no in various situations that may make them feel unsafe. They also discussed what it means to have self-esteem and how we can build our self-esteem. This discussion included learning about the process of setting SMART personal goals.Earlier in the term our lessons were focused on the Day for Daniel content. Each student was asked to identify 5 people whom they trust that they feel comfortable talking to if ever they were to feel unsafe. Each class also learnt about how our bodies respond when they feel unsafe and that they need to say “No” if ever they feel unsafe and then “Go” and “Tell” one of their five trusted adults that they had identified. In our Library lessons stage 3 are developing their mapping skills and stage 2 are learning about ‘Celebrations from Around the World’. Kindergarten are developing their knowledge of computer programs and typing skills. They completed a typing challenge this week in class which saw Liam become the fastest. Looking forward to seeing who can catch his score next time!As we are nearing to the end of the year can I please ask for all students to return their Library books by the end of week 7 (29th November 2019). Students will be able to borrow

in week 6, but all books including any overdue ones need to be back in by week 7 so they can be processed and ready for 2020.

Intensive SwimmingAs a result of the ongoing work taking place at the Manilla Pool, the Intensive Swimming Program normally run by the school in Term 4 each year is going to be rolled over to Term 1, 2020. There will be no swimming for sport this term. In its place, the students will be participating in a whole school cricket program run by Cricket NSW. This will run on Tuesdays for the next five weeks. This will begin tomorrow for ALL students - infants and primary.
