Ashley Jones addressed the audience with a thoughtful speech on what it is to be a hero and mentioned the impressive list of volunteer groups that contribute so much to provide opportunity for those in our town. The community of Manilla Central School would like to extend a special message of thanks to the Lions Club, represented by Mr Roy Arscott, Mrs Barbara Arscott and Ms Janette Meehan. Mr Arscott presented Mr Windred with a cheque for an amazing $2000. This donation is the result of many volunteer hours provided by the members of Manilla Lions Club, so we are very grateful for their continued support for the education of our children. Education Week- ‘Celebrating local Heroes’

On Thursday, 30th August our school held a special K-12 assembly celebrating our local heroes. Our Keynote speaker, Mr David Ridgewell OAM, moved and inspired us with his story. David exemplifies the very best in those who serve others in order to create a more caring and connected community. A full transcript of David’s speech will be published in next week’s Express. Boys Netball - Schools Cup Regional Final

Last Monday, our 7/8 boys netball team travelled to Tamworth Sports Dome to compete in the Netball Schools Cup Regional Final. The boys competed against 3 other schools for a shot at the State Finals in Sydney. Considering the majority of our team consisted of Year 7 boys, the team played extremely well, catching the attention of organisers and officials for their excellent skills and understanding of the complex rules of the sport. The boys won their first game against McIntyre. They then played Inverell High School, going down in a close match. Their 3rd game was against Wee Waa High which the boys also won. The boys then had to play Wee Waa a second time for a place in the Grand Final against an undefeated Inverell High. The boys played an extremely evenly matched game and went down in the dying minutes of the game. The boys placed 3rd overall and are hopeful that next year they will be the team to beat with the experience under their belt. Big thanks to Tammy Stackman who helped transport and support the boys on the day.
