Manistee County Council on Aging Issue: August 2020 By Sarah Howard Executive Director Hello everyone! I am really missing all of you right now and really want to get open at the senior center as soon as we are told it is safe. We can’t believe how long the pandem- ic has lasted and with the rising numbers of cases I am not sure where things will be this month. We decided to start doing activities out- side last month and it went really well. Last month we started withToeTappingTuesday with the 3Ds which was wonderful. I can hear the music from my office as well if they were in the dining room. We also started Sit & Get Fit with Nancy on Tuesday and Thurs- days outside. It was great to see some of the regulars after 4 months. We have some fun things planned for this month, check out the calendar and see if you want to join in on the fun. I would love it if you have some fun ideas that we could still stay safe and at least six feet apart outside. Please put on your thinking caps and let us know your ideas. I would love it if you send us a picture of yourself when you were a child or in high school without your name on it. First of all, it would be a fun game for all of us at the senior center to try and guess who it is, but mostly it would show all of us here you’re thinking of us. I want you to know that one of the ways this pandemic has made it difficult for me and my staff is all of the people that we come into contact with every day at the senior center, are family to us. So, I know I feel such a loss, and hope we will be able to get together soon. If you have driven past theWagoner Community Center on your way to 5th Avenue beach, there has been a lot of work being done. All of the roofs on the entire property needed to be removed and redone. Wow,I had no idea it was going to be such a large production and how many pieces of equipment they needed to get this huge project done. 2021 is an important mile stone year for Manistee County Council on Aging. We have been serving Manistee County Seniors for 50 years. That is a lot of se- niors who have enjoyed some fun activities and have gotten some help at the senior center. My dream would be to be able to celebrate our 50th year at the Wagoner Community Cen- ter. I can’t wait for this very important project to be done. I want to wish my wonderful Mom De- nise Dursum a very Happy 85 birthday! She will always be my hero! Thank you mom for always being there for your kids and grand- children. I hope you have a wonderful August and remember to try something new!
