Storing data online and in cloud storage is becoming popular - Flash memory devices Started to replace magnetic media as it becomes cheaper and more efficient solution. - Online and cloud as people need to access their data from more than one device. - Paper storage Punch card Early computers had no method of using any of the above technologies for storing information and had to rely on paper. Today, these forms of storage are rarely used or found. 2. Define The Following A. Hard Disk Latency - is the time it takes for the selected sector to be positioned under the read/write head. Channel latency is the time it takes for a computer channel to become unoccupied in order to transfer data. Network latency is the delay introduced when a packet is momentarily stored, analyzed and then forwarded. B. Hard Disk Transfer Rate - is commonly used to measure how fast data is transferred from one location to another. For example, a hard drive may have a maximum data transfer rate of 480 Mbps, while your ISP may offer an Internet connection with a maximum data transfer rate of only 1.5 Mbps. C. Disk Optimization - A program that makes a disk more efficient. Disk optimizer us a variety of techniques, including defragmenting the disk. Fragmentation occurs naturally when a disk is used often. D. Disk Defragmentation - is the process of consolidating fragmented data on a volume (such as a hard disk or a storage device) so it will work more

Fragmentation happens to a volume over time as you save, change, or delete files.
