Brief Industrial Profile of Nalbari District

1. General Characteristics of the District Nalbari District is situated in between Kamrup and Barpeta District. For better administration, old Kamrup District has been divided into three Districts. Farmer Nalbari Sub Division is declared as a District in 14th August,1985.Shri V.K. Pipersenia, IAS, was first Deputy Commissioner in Nalbari.

1.1 Location & Geographical Area.

The Nalbari District is situated in between 26oN and 27o N latitude and 91o E and 97o E longitude . The northern side of the district is bounded by the Baksa district.The southern side by the mighty Brahmaputra. The Kamrup District falls in the east and the Barpeta District in the west. The Nalbari District stands covering an area of 1009.57 sq.km. 1.2 Topography

The entire area of the District is situated at the plains of the Brahmaputra Valley. The tributaries of the Brahmaputra, Nona, Buradia, Pagaldia, Borolia and Tihu which are originated from the foothills of the Himalayan Range are wild in nature and have enormous contribution towards the agrarian economy of the district. The Soil condition of District is a heterogeneous one. The Soil of the northern part of the district is clayey and loamy where as middle part is loamy and sandy. The Soil of the southern part of the district is composed of sandy soil. 1.3 Availability of Minerals.

No major mineral deposit is reported in Nalbari district

1.4 FOREST: There is no reserved forest except only 4 hector social forestry is

presently available in Nalbari district.

3. INDUSTRIAL SCENERIO OF NALBARI DISTRICT

Infrastructure plays a vital role in economic and industrial development of an area. Adequate infrastructural facilities such as land, industrial accommodation, power, water, Financial Institutions etc. reduce the investment risk and attract the prospective entrepreneurs to set-up new industrial venture. As far as infrastructure facilities are concerned, the Nalbari district is poor and reflected in the industrial field. There is no large and Public Sector undertaking industries in the district. Registered industrial unit is only 1832 Nos in the district.
