Page 2: Maps of the World in the Eyes of a Child

This is image is very clearly showing that this child wants there to be peace on Earth. The artist sees the dove as a symbol of peace.

Page 3: Maps of the World in the Eyes of a Child

The artist is showing that the Earth is sad. You can see all of the garbage piling on top of it. I bet this child has been learning about the importance of taking care of our Earth!

Page 4: Maps of the World in the Eyes of a Child

The picture depicts people with their nation’s flag. Everyone lives collectively inside of our one Earth. Perhaps this person has been learning about the different flags that represent each nation.

Wow! This is a very accurate map. I love how the artist took the time to label all of the counties in our world. I also like how he/she used a different color for each country. It makes it easy to see where all of the different

nations are located.

I love that this map shows people that look different reaching out to one another. There are drawings of people that live in various parts of the world. I also like how it shows both sides of the Earth.

This map makes me think that the artist is trying to show that we are all connected. We have a common root. Perhaps the bird is supposed to represent life.

This map is showing the different endangered species all over the world.

Page 9: Maps of the World in the Eyes of a Child

I like how everyone is holding hands around the Earth. It shows that they want everyone to work together to make our world a better place.

This map is teaching people the importance of recycling. It shows the different continents being used over and over again. Maybe they’ve just learned about renewable and non renewable resources.

I love how this map is quilted. It shows people who all look very different, but are living in one world together with happiness (hence all of the smiles )

Maps!As I looked at the different maps, I kept finding myself trying to

guess what that particular artist was studying in school. The image of the continents being recycled, the image that depicted the different endangered species, and the map that was clearly labeled with all of the countries in the world. I feel like the artist’s map reflected a topic they were either studying or one that they were particularly interested in. It would be nice to get the artist’s reflection on why they chose to create their map the way they did. There was an underlying theme of peace and harmony. Most of the maps show images of people who look very different, yet exist together harmoniously. It’s clear which children have studied world maps. You can tell by the shapes of the continents as well as their location on the Earth.
