We are learning about taking 2 groups of objects and adding them together. We are also learning how to use the ‘+; and ‘=‘ symbols in creating addition sentences. We began by working on the book Danny Sings . We then played addition games such as kindergarten Yahtzee, double 10 frame flash, addition plates, and unifix cube addition. Most of these were partner games. Each day we work on a morning message to the class. The children are now helping me write familiar sight words in the message. We continue to talk about the weather this week. We read fiction and non-fiction books about many types of weather. Our favorite was Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs. This book led us into making our own class book about what we would like to ‘rain’ from the sky. This week we started Topic 7 in math which is all about addition. We are learning about taking 2 groups of objects and adding them together. We are also learning how to use the ‘+; and ‘=‘ symbols in creating addition sentences. We began by working on the book Danny Sings.

The children are working hard on putting together CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words and reading them. The children played a super decoder game to help reading words. We are beginning to learn strategies for decoding unknown words in books. We are working on reading familiar books (re-telling the story), reading the pictures in a book (where the text is too difficult), and reading the words using various strategies. We worked on a rainy day craft that incorporated reading, writing, and math as well as art.
